And USC is stuck with Lincoln Riley, whose teams do not play defense, and doesn’t seem to be a great recruiter.

Well, if football doesn't work out for General Booty, he could always fall back to a career as a male stripper.
I was thinking that he should join the military. Think of how fun basic training would be!- 1

I can’t stand Oklahoma but Dillon Gabriel was spectacular. He will win a lot of games at Oregon and there is no QB that I’d rather have in big games next year. There is a reason that many are picking the Ducks to challenge Ohio State in the B1G.

Good teams build at the line of scrimmage. Bad teams select QB or skilled positions year after year…

I would be shocked if Stein sticks around in Eugene for more than another year or two. He’s going to get an offer for a head coaching opportunity and, if the offense is as prolific this season, as some expect, it might be sooner rather than later.
Let’s hope that he can win a B1G and National Championship at the University of Oregon, first.

The Masters is a tournament that favors those with experience. Wyndham will have many more opportunities to play in the tournament and I would not be surprised if he wins a green jacket in the future.

Only the NCAA would do the complete opposite of what is needed to save college athletics…

Opposing secondaries are going to have nightmares about Oregon’s passing game.
Evan Stewart is a big time down the field threat he makes 50/50 balls into 80/20.
Holden and Dickey are bigger stronger receivers who can catch those short/intermediate throws and run over CBs or safeties, or catch those end zone fade routes.
Tez and Gary Bryant are both high end possession receivers who run good routes, have great hands and will move the chains.
This doesn’t even include our TEs or RBs sneaking out of the backfield on routes. Plus we have a QB(s) who can really sling the rock. So excited to see Oregon’s 2024-25 offense.

Coach Samples is certainly intriguing candidate and I can see why Coach Lanning is interested. However, if his goal is to become a HC soon, then he might be better off at ASU as passing game coordinator and WR Coach until someone comes calling for an OC job.

To those who responded to my post above, you make some valid points to be sure. The people I called out in that post are obviously not college football fanatics and (thankfully) have nothing to do with rankings, seedings, etc. The point I was making, tongue in cheek I might add, is that our Ducks' web print is not as wide as many on the forum believe it is. Sorry if I bruised some egos, but I'll stick with my wider characterization.
No worries. My ego is not bruised and I appreciate your posts on this site.
Like most on this site, I am a passionate college football fan (although troubled by the recent direction of the sport) and know all of the teams in the top football conferences (even the Vanderbilts, Rices and Northwesterns of the world…).

Dan has always said he is very supportive of his staff taking the next steps in their career. He always preaches 1% better and I'm sure he applies that to when he has to replace a staff member.
As someone else mentioned, this is a lateral move for Coach Lock. Yes, he’ll make more money but the Ryan Day is on the hot seat.
I thank coach for what he did at Oregon but finding a good RB coach should not prove too difficult. I wouldn’t have broken the bank to retain him.

I think y'all might be surprised by how many people know absolutely nothing about Oregon and Oregon football. Prior to the 21 season opener against Georgia in the Benz. a Midwesterner I know asked me who Georgia had as an opponent in the opener. When I replied Oregon, he remarked "I didn't know they played football."
Another women from Illinois who followed the B1G but nobody else, when told about Georgia's opener (she went to grad school in Athens) said "The Oregon Ducks! I never heard of the Oregon Ducks. You made that up!" C'est la vie.
With all due respect to you, sir, but those people are not true college football fans.
The Oregon Ducks played in the 2011 and 2015 College Football National Championship Games. It’s unfathomable that any casual college football fan would not know who the Oregon Ducks were in this day and age, unless they have their heads so far up their arses they can’t see day light.

To have four of the verbals out of five being 4/5-Star players says TONS about how Lanning, with enough time, can build great connections and relationships with recruits.
I felt from the beginning, that he was working and scratching, as hard as he could to get what he could in recruiting, but with future classes, where they can get acquainted with him over a year or two.… His recruiting would turn to elite.
Perhaps we are on the verge of elite recruiting? Top-five kind of Recruiting?
I think that Lanning turning down the Alabama job really opened eyeballs nationwide, including among 5-star football recruits. “What is brewing out in Eugene? I better check it out!”- 2

I don’t understand why the departing schools would agree to this. The $5M should be placed in escrow and any amount not needed for the overpayment of past media revenues returned to the schools.
Seems like a lose-lose for the departing schools. Who cares about voting rights for the current year? The major revenue generating sports are all but finished.
What am I missing?

We may miss Dante and Cousinard, next year.
Enjoy it while it lasts!
Yes, but the future is so bright with Shelstad and Evans!
Can you imagine how good the team could be in 2-3 years with those two as upper classmen? I would imagine that we could get some really good players that will want to play with those two…

The respect she is getting from Steph and the NBA players is real. They know greatness when they see it.
Based on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s body language, in the seats, it looked like he was pulling for Sabrina. I’m sure that he wasn’t alone!
Steph is the greatest 3 point shooter in basketball history and a terrific proponent of youth and women’s basketball. Well done, all around.

Sabrina started off hot before cooling down in the middle and finishing strong. If she could have hit a few more on the third rack or the money balls she might have won.
Regardless, Sabrina represented Women’s basketball and Oregon very well, as always. She’s a Duck great.
Hopefully we’ll see a rematch.

Kliavkoff should get his share of the blame for the collapse of the PAC-12 conference:
• Being blindsided by the exit of the LA schools• Failing to understand the true value of the Pac12 media rights without the LA schools
• Turning down ESPN’s initial TV deal of $30M+ per school with a linear broadcasting component (see point above)
• Lack of transparency for the remaining schools during the media negotiations and failing to understand the member schools needs (e.g., a need for linear broadcast exposure)
• Not expanding aggressively right after the LA schools left the conference (SDSU would have been a no brainer)

OMIGOSH! Lanning Wants to "Retire Here?"
in Our Beloved Ducks
Posted
The longer Coach Lanning and his family stay in Eugene and establish deep roots in the community, the more likely he’s going to stay long term. Similar to Coach Bellotti who reportedly turned down some blue bloods (e.g., USC, tOSU) to stay in Eugene because he didn’t want to uproot his family.
