Why Do I Keep Hearing About Kyle Whittingham to Michigan?
Coach Whittingham said he was stepping down as Utah’s head coach, not that he is retiring. He is reportedly open to coaching again in the future, according to sources close to him (unlikely Canzo). https://www.sltrib.com/sports/utah-utes/2025/12/12/why-utahs-kyle-whittingham-might/

Does Oregon Have the BEST Path to a Championship?
In his final college football playoff prediction, Josh Pate picked Ohio State over Oregon in the national championship game. He said that Oregon is peaking and getting healthy at the right time. Indiana’s DL injury will hurt their chances of beating Oregon a second time but Ohio State is the best overall team. For the record, I would pick Oregon and Georgia to play in the national championship game and believe that that game would be a coin flip on who would win.

Is Dante Leaving For The NFL?
You’ve also seen a recent resurgence of NFL QBs who were not successful at their first stop and have found new life on new teams (better organizations). For “older” fans, Steve Young (Tampa Bay to San Francisco) comes to my mind.

Why Do I Keep Hearing About Kyle Whittingham to Michigan?
Someone said that Whittingham was open to coaching. It sure it makes sense for Michigan. Maybe 10 years ago…

Five Factors that Built Oregon Into a Recruiting Juggernaut
Lanning was asked how he managed to sign every single commit after BOTH coordinators announced they were leaving and he tells recruits that if Oregon is successful then his coordinators will have opportunities for other jobs and that his goal is to make sure that his coaches and players are able to achieve all of their goals. [Or something along those lines.] Think of the coordinators that have left and where they have gone: • Kenny Dillingham - ASU (alma mater) • Tosh Lupoi - Cal (alma mater) • Will Stein - Kentucky (parents are season ticket holders) It’s not like they are leaving for some random jobs. I’m sure that Coach Lanning is providing advice on the types of programs they should be targeting to be happy and successful.

Oregon Mentioned For Landing Spot For Raiola
George Wrighster indicated that he has heard that Sam Leavitt’s teammates do not like him. Luckily Coach Lanning has a pretty good relationship with ASU’s HC so I’m sure he’ll get honest feedback on whether he would be a good locker room fit…

Oregon Mentioned For Landing Spot For Raiola
Someone mentioned that Raiola transferred to 4 high schools (played at 3) and committed to 3 college teams before enrolling at Nebraska and playing for 2 years. This indicates that he is restless and is always looking for something else. No, thank you.

Five Factors that Built Oregon Into a Recruiting Juggernaut
Is it just me or does it seem like interest in Oregon from top blue chip recruits, from coast to coast, reached a new level once Coach Lanning turned down the Alabama job? Perhaps it piqued their interest and made them want to check out Oregon for themselves, a little bit more …

Five Factors that Built Oregon Into a Recruiting Juggernaut
I would also add the hiring of Chief of Staff/GM Marshall Malchow, who served in a similar capacity at Texas A+M, Georgia and Alabama. Lanning understands that building a championship-caliber team today goes far beyond the football field. “This isn’t the same college football it was ten years ago,” Lanning recently told reporters. “You’ve got to build an organization, not just a team. And that means having the right people in the building.” https://www.lexsportnews.com/2025/07/14/dan-lanning-talks-gm-model-nil-and-building-a-powerhouse-at-oregon/

Is Dante Leaving For The NFL?
I just hope that this isn’t a distraction in the playoffs. Same with both Oregon’s coordinators working 2 jobs.

FWIW, Mel Kiper has Dante Moore as the #1 QB on his draft board. George Wrightster claims that Oregon has made a significant NIL offer for Dante Moore to come back next season.

Michigan Fires Moore.
The University of Michigan is now investigating its athletic department. Wonder if the AD makes it through the investigation given all of the scandals over the past few years and the impact on the hiring of their next football coach? What coach at a top program would you want to leave their job for the uncertainty surrounding the Michigan job? I still don’t understand how Michigan avoided severe sanctions. mliveMichigan athletics department under investigation: Is a c...The latest Wolverine Confidential podcast episode is available

Is Dante Leaving For The NFL?
I guess if he doesn’t touch a dime for 40 years and is able to achieve an 8% average annual compound return over that time frame. Of course, then the $50M in guaranteed NFL money would be worth $700M+ based on those same assumptions… I guess we’ll see what Dante chooses but I know what I’d advise, if I were close to him and he asked me.

Receiver Status Update from Twitter (X)
That is some serious talent at receiver! While we don’t need to rush them back, it would be nice for them to all get a few series together to work off any rust.

Leg-Lifter Fan Questions Why Coach Lanning Is Still In Eugene
That’s because it takes a different skill set to succeed in college vs. the NFL. In college, you have to recruit and motivate 18-22 year old kids. The NFL is much more balanced talent wise so coaching and Xs and Os becomes much more important. Grown men getting paid millions and millions of dollars don’t respond to the rah rah.

Is Dante Leaving For The NFL?
I don’t think this is guaranteed. Once scouts see Dante Moore throw in pro day and individual workouts they may reassess. No one in college football throws a prettier ball than Dante Moore. He can make all of the NFL throws. I haven’t been as impressed by Mendoza’s arm talent. Dante’s highlights are light years ahead of Mendoza’s (no one threw a better ball than that dime Dante hit against Iowa). The NFL drafts bad on potential.

$5-10M is not generational wealth for a 20 year old. It’s enough to retire on and lead a comfortable life, if you invest it wisely and don’t spend it foolishly. $50M is generational wealth.

Leg-Lifter Fan Questions Why Coach Lanning Is Still In Eugene
“My next goal on there was ‘Head coach, 35.’ I wanted to be a head coach, and I thought that was really important to me. Well, I became the head coach of Oregon at 35. The next goal on there is NFL coach,” Lanning shared, before dropping a major truth bomb. “That ain’t on my goal board no more. It’s off my board, and it’ll never be up there again.” “When I took this job [at Oregon], I made a promise to my kids that they’re going to graduate from the same high school, middle school. Those things are way more important to me than getting the opportunity to coach in the NFL. I used to have that dream; that’s not a dream of mine anymore. I truly believe this will be my last job,” Lanning concluded. It does seem as though the locations of the playoff games are largely slanted south and east. Why not have more balance between the coasts?

Will Stein Poaches Another Duck Assistant
There might have been an agreement, spoken or unspoken, that Stein and Tosh not take a bunch of assistant coaches and players with them. I don’t recall Lanning doing either when he left Georgia.

$50 million now is better than the potential for a second contract worth $100M+. Invest wisely and he’ll be set for life. It’s more than most of us will earn over the course of our careers.
