QUAACK! Luke Moga, 3-Star Quarterback, Commits to Oregon Ducks
NJDuck replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Breaking down QB Luke Moga's commitment, and what it means for QB Michael Van Buren Does this impact Michael Van Buren? The number one question I had when I saw that Moga announced his commitment was “How does this impact Michael Van Buren?” I’m not sure that Moga’s announcement changes anything for Van Buren. He is the higher-rated prospect, and if he believes that he can beat out Moga for playing time down the road, and he still believes in what his future could hold at Oregon, then there is no reason to change course — assuming that his plan is to commit to the Ducks. If a 5-star QB like Dylan Raiola had announced that he was committing to Oregon, then you could see Van Buren changing his mind and opting for another school, but I’m not sure that he will be deterred by a competition from Moga. Would Oregon take 2 QBs in 2024? It’s relatively rare that you see a pair of quarterbacks in a recruiting class together, since obviously only one can play down the road. In the era of the transfer portal, it may become more common, as the two agree to battle it out, with the victor staying and the runner-up transferring out to a different school. Is that what’s happening here? It could be. Should the Ducks take a pair of passers in this recruiting class, it feels like they are almost throwing a bunch of options at the wall and seeing what sticks. Going into next year, you have Ty Thompson, Austin Novosad, Luke Moga, and potentially Michael Van Buren all competing for the starting spot. It would also not be a surprise in the slightest to see the Ducks bring in a transfer portal QB to compete for the starting job as well. That’s a lot of options. Hopefully one of them proves he’s good enough to lead the Ducks to success. Let’s talk it out. -

Spring game DT Roundtable Extravaganza: Storylines, players to watch and predictions The highlight of Oregon's spring football calendar is just one day away. The program will hold its annual spring game at Autzen Stadium at 1 PM. Entry is free and fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to support those in need. The players have already been split into two teams — team green and team yellow. The school has already announced the rosters for both teams and the format is expected to resemble a true gameday experience. With the spring scrimmage 24 hours away, the Duck Territory staff has put together it's preview extravaganza. This DT Roundtable will feature items that perk the interest of myself, Matt Prehm and Jared Mack. Each of us will pick one storyline we're most intrigued by, an offensive player and a defensive player to watch and then make a prediction for how the offense and the defense will fare as well. Joe Lorig discusses special teams improvement, and Oregon's increased presence at the nickel When Joe Lorig came to Oregon as the special teams’ coordinator a year ago, there was a lot to improve upon. He wasn’t shy about the need for the Ducks to improve quickly, either, saying that they needed close to a complete overhaul of the unit. Unfortunately, the team was not able to see much improvement in Lorig’s first year at the helm. They ranked near the bottom of the nation in nearly all special teams’ statistics, and still have a lot to improve upon going forward. On Tuesday, media members got the first chance to talk to Lorig this season, and we discussed how the Ducks can get better, and how the defense is shaping up with some new faces in the secondary. Here are some of the most notable quotes from that media session: Oregon Football: Joe Lorig talks special teams improvement for Ducks DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Joe Lorig discussed the need to improve on special teams, and how UO’s nickel spot is shaping up.
