B1G Tradition - Matt Hayes's weekly look at B1G football. Lots of good stuff here; Hayes's key to Oregon going over 10.5, defeating at least one of Michigan and Ohio State.

Thanks, NJ for the above post. A few thoughts.

No. 10. LSU - with its tougher conference games in Baton Rouge, the Tigers are a threat to win the SEC. However, unlike 2023, in 2024 LSU will not have the best O in the nation. No. 10 feels like the right spot.

No. 9. Oklahoma - Arnold threw for 361 yards against Arizona. He also threw 3 picks. The schedule is brutal.

No. 8. Miami - Only if Mari(o) does not screw Cam Ward up. That's a big IF.

No. 7. Georgia - Underrated IMO; especially with Etienne running the ball behind a solid O line.

No. 6. Memphis. SMU is off to the ACC. Tulane has a new coach and a new QB, Ty Thompson. The only 'unwinnable game' is on the road at FSU.

No. 5 - Texas - Top 2 RBs are gone. All of the quality WRs from 2023 are gone. Bond from Bama? The winning Iron Bowl catch was great, but Bond had 661 receiving yards in 2023, good but not great. I think Texas is overrated here and also in the 2024 preseason polls.

No. 4 Liberty - Give me death over 13-0 Liberty playing in a crummy conference without a P4 opponent in back-to-back seasons, making the playoff as the G5 representative. We saw this horror movie in 2023.

No. 3 Ole Miss - With a soft schedule, the toughest game at LSU, with UGA, and OK traveling to Oxford, and Dart back at QB, this could be too low.

No. 2. Oregon - Oregon "lucked out" getting Stewart. Come On Man! How about some credit for Dan the Man and Division Street? Luck had nothing to do with Stewart coming to Eugene. TE Fergie is flying under the radar.

No. 1 Ohio State - If the starting QB is better than McCord. If the O line improves. If everything meshes for Chip. A lightweight schedule provides an opportunity for tOSU to be No. 1; I see improvement but not this much improvement.

Fun read. Thanks again.

The Wisky coach looks back on a rocky 2023. If Van Dyke plays like he did before Mari(o) showed up, Wisconsin has a shot at being much improved in 2024.

11/16 in Madison, Ducks players will likely be Jumping Around just to stay warm.

Fickell spoke to The Athletic about the highs and lows of a 7-6 debut at Wisconsin and what went wrong: 'It’s incredibly humbling.'

With Oregon in, 7 B1G teams made the NCAA Tourney field. Will the B1G win its first title since 2000?

Three Big Ten teams are on a collision course with a No. 1 seed in the 2nd round. That and other key takeaways for the NCAA Tournament.

The UW AD is now the AD at Nebraska. Intra-conference poaching. Does UW have the money to stay competitive in CFB and CBB?

UW could not come close to matching DeBoer's $10.5M from Bama. It would be interesting to know the salary differences with this hire by Nebraska. A+m paid a whole lot of money to poach alum Trev Alberts from the Cornhuskers.

This situation needs to stop happening.  The playoff selection committee needs to force the issue where all conferences have to have the same number of conference games played.

SEC sticking with 8 conference games in 2025, adjusting start times

Desiring an all-day SEC football feel, SEC Network game start times can now be pushed back 45 minutes to lead to more staggered finishes, i.e. moving from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. CT. kickoff time.

The young man was a long-time 'commit' to Georgia and had Oregon in his final 3.

Riley is trying to turn the page on D and recruiting on that side of the ball is improving. I have SC as a 2024 B1G Dark Horse contender. 5 programs in the B1G have Blue Chip Rosters: Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, OREGON, and USC.

In 2024, SC plays LSU and Notre Dame OOC but misses both OREGON and Ohio State and plays Penn State and Wisconsin in LA.

Wink, Wink, gets paid. No Harbaugh but it looks like Michigan is still serious about playing champ-level ball. Will Martindale, who has been out of college ball for a long time, be a good fit? A good recruiting fit?

OT, but looking at DeBoer's salary at Bama, $10.5 Million a year before any bonus, should Mullens give DL another raise?

[NJ - time for a new thread? Thanks for all of the great posts.]

2024 Big Ten football head coach rankings from 1 to 18: With no Jim Harbaugh, Ryan Day claims top spot

For the uninitiated, these lists are totally subjective. This is meant to be a fun exercise, but it’s my rankings.

While career achievements are taken into account, college football has become a sport that’s constantly changing, so recent performance (wins, recruiting, working the transfer portal, hiring assistants, producing NFL Draft picks, etc) is weighed much more heavily than what you’ve done in the past.

Entering the 224 season, the Big Ten head coach rankings look considerably different than they did just one year ago. There’s no Jim Harbaugh or Pat Fitzgerald. Hello, Pac-12 compadres Lincoln Riley, Dan Lanning, Jedd Fisch and DeShaun Foster. And where do you rank Sherrone Moore or Jonathan Smith?

There’s plenty to debate. Let’s dive in.

With Jim Harbaugh off to the NFL, Ryan Day is now the Big Ten’s top head coach. But how do the rest of the 2024 rankings flesh out?

Three Big Ten Stadiums Named Most 'Intimidating' For 2024

The Big Ten already has a reputation for having some of the hardest places to play in college football for visiting teams, and that reputation is only going to get stronger with the addition of several teams from the Pac-12 in 2024.

One college football writer set out to rank the most "intimidating" stadiums in the country for the 2024 season, and he included three from the Big Ten.
