Rivals New Feature, Thursday Roundup

THE BEGINNING OF A NEW ERA

For those that only read articles on the front page, there was some news we shared on the message boards this week.

Starting today, I will take over as the publisher for Duck Sports Authority. My mission was simple when I asked to take on this role: return Duck Sports Authority to what it used to be.

The difficult reality is that the recruiting world today is vastly different than it was a decade ago. Recruits are building their own brands and often break their own news. We can still get inside information, but the staff at elite football programs are doing a much better job at keeping some things quiet. So, we adjust and move towards what we can bring of value to our customers and I think that is more and better recruiting content.

Practice Notes: Building Momentum

As the Oregon Ducks continued their preseason practices, significant developments emerged on both sides of the ball. Coaches highlighted team unity, player development, and the integration of new recruits during the third and fourth sessions of fall camp, conducted in helmets and shells.

Thursday Roundup: The week that was in Oregon football

OL Recruiting: No Cause for Concern—Yet

The Oregon Ducks faced a setback in their offensive line recruiting this week with Aaron Dunn's commitment to Utah. Despite this loss, there is no immediate cause for alarm. Last year, Oregon signed just four offensive linemen and currently has three committed for 2025. With a pressing need for at least one more lineman, the Ducks' coaching staff is at a critical juncture in their recruiting efforts.

The pool of elite offensive linemen is narrowing, making top prospect Michael Fasusi a challenging target for Oregon. The staff may need to pivot by focusing on players already committed elsewhere or reevaluating lower-ranked prospects. Flipping committed players is notoriously difficult, so strategic persistence will be key. While Dunn's departure is disappointing, it underscores the ongoing necessity for effective recruiting.

Steven and our OBD,

Don't know if this is the most appropriate place to place an article with the PFF 3-game composite grading of a number of our Duck O and D players. Pulled this from Microsoft News on the internet, and it was originally published on Ducks Wire: Which Oregon Ducks lead team in PFF grades at quarter-mark of 2024 season. If this is misplaced, please move it or delete it.

"The bye week came at an opportune time for the Oregon Ducks, who ended non-conference play on a high note with a 49-14 blowout win over the Oregon State Beavers. It also comes at an opportune time for us as well, landing at the one-quarter mark of the season and giving us a great opportunity to catch our breath and assess how things have gone before conference play begins in Week 5 against the UCLA Bruins.

One of the ways that we like to assess how things have transpired thus far is by looking at the player grades handed out by Pro Football Focus. Rather than look at these grades after each contest, as we have in years past, we're going to revisit the numbers throughout the season, at the quarter, halfway, three-quarter, and end of the regular season. This way, we can get an overall snapshot of who is playing well for the Ducks, and how things change over time.

Here's a look at the top offensive players for the Ducks so far through one-quarter of the season:

Oregon Ducks Offensive PFF Leaders

  1. QB Dillon Gabriel — 88.1

    (Passing — 90.1 // Running — 57.3)

  2. LG Nishad Strother — 78.3

    (Pass Block — 73.0 // Run Block — 79.7)

  3. RB Jordan James — 77.2

    (Running — 81.4 // Passing — 62.1)

  4. TE Terrance Ferguson — 75.9

    (Passing — 78.8 // Run Block — 66.9)

  5. RB Jayden Limar — 75.7

    (Running — 62.0 // Passing — 89.1)

  6. RT Ajani Cornelius — 72.8

    (Pass Block — 78.1 // Run Block — 72.3)

  7. TE Kenyon Sadiq — 72.4

    (Passing — 73.2 // Run Block — 59.5)

  8. WR Tez Johnson — 70.9

    (Passing — 70.9 // Run Block — 59.6)

  9. LT Josh Conerly — 65.7

    (Pass Block — 65.3 // Run Block — 65.7)

  10. WR Traeshon Holden — 65.0

    (Passing — 63.9 // Run Block — 68.1

  11.

  12. Here's a look at the defensive side of the ball

Oregon Ducks Defensive PFF Leaders

  1. LB Bryce Boettcher — 89.3

    (Tackling — 73.1 // Coverage — 88.6)

  2. DT Derrick Harmon — 86.2

    (Rush D — 74.2 // Pass Rush — 92.0)

  3. STAR Brandon Johnson — 78.7

    (Coverage — 80.1 // Tackling — 70.0)

  4. LB Connor Soelle — 74.1

    (Tackling — 74.3 // Coverage — 72.2)

  5. LB Jeffrey Bassa — 71.9

    (Tackling — 43.4 // Coverage — 68.0)

  6. EDGE Jaeden Moore — 71.6

    (Rush D — 60.6 // Pass Rush — 61.7)

  7. S Tysheem Johnson — 71.2

    (Coverage — 69.7 // Tackling — 61.3)

  8. S Kobe Savage — 70.9

    (Coverage — 72.3 // Tackling — 85.8)

  9. CB Nikko Reed — 70.9

    (Coverage — 70.5 // Tackling — 80.9)

  10. DE Jordan Burch — 70.8

    (Rush D — 62.2 // Pass Rush — 71.7)

The grades aren't all that surprising, highlighting a lot of the top players that we have seen on the field and pointing out some valuable depth pieces so far, such as Jayden Limar, Jaeden Moore, and Bryce Boettcher

We will see how things change once we get to the middle of the season following the Ohio State game in Week 7.
