HDuck No. 1 Share Posted August 31 from Wilner's column today....“Announced in December, the scheduling partnership provided both OSU and WSU with six games against Mountain West schools (three home, three away) for the 2024 season …For the 2024 season, the Pac-12 schools will pay the Mountain West approximately $15 million, which includes an administrative fee, participation fee and scheduling fee (for each game in Corvallis and Pullman).” So, UW and UO get rocks thrown by OSU fans over the half-shares (which are actually half media portion shares, not half total B1G revenue shares). How does paying another conference for opponents differ from taking less in media revenue? Both mean less to have a conference affiliation?
DanLduck No. 2 Share Posted September 2 You make a good point HDuck. Seems the same to me. Guess it wasn't good enough cuz the 1 year deal did not get a 2nd year. Apparently the Mt. West doesn't want either school. So, where do the lonely hearts clubs go to play now? Become independent? I have little sympathy.
HDuck Author No. 3 Share Posted September 2 May be a ploy by Mt. West to get more money? It is hard for an "independent" to get games in October and November when conferences are in the midst of their conference season. Not so tough to get games in September...but October/November is another ball of wax.
David Marsh No. 4 Share Posted September 2 The problem for OSU and WSU joining the MW is that they'd both be fairly good MW teams. They'd completely overturn the conference. Usually in the conference realignment is that the conferences adding teams want big brands that won't upend their current status quo. Looks like Texas might be a surprise in the SEC in a few years. If Oregon gets its act together we could still be a surprise to the B1G this year. USC might also be a surprise to the B1G this year as well.
