Mindset, Motivations, and Other Musings

Recommended Posts

Wanted to get OBD's thoughts on a few topics:

tosu looked amped up for their game against Tenn, and they played with an energy and aggression that was palpable. Perhaps I haven't really looked for it, but I have yet to feel the same energy from the Ducks. They feel more robotic or machine-like (I'm not saying this is bad). Not much up or down. Honestly, I'd like to see a bit more passion, but don't know which is better: To be full of enthusiasm, or be more like a machine? Or a combination of both?

I'm glad that the Ducks are an underdog in this game, and very few are picking them to win. I think tosu's loss to Michigan really woke them up, a very good thing for them. I'm hoping being an underdog will get the Ducks hyped up. Are you offended that the Ducks are an underdog, or do you prefer it that way?

All teams that made the playoffs got at least a 2-week break. Is the 1st round bye as much of an advantage as it's purported to be? Would you rather have two weeks off and get a warm-up game (like tosu), or have a 3-week before playing a very tough opponent?

1)  I think if you look at last year's CU game, you saw fire in the eyes from play 1.  In talking to several football sportsmen, Bruse Feldman stated that the loudest game start to finish he has ever witnessed, it was round 1 with osu.

2)  I like being an underdog for betting purposes, otherwise couldn't care less.

3)  Prefer the longer rest: rest and recovery; fix our own issues; add new wrinkles; more time to prepare/can spend a little time on each team you may play and then fine tune once you know the foe.

I think Oregon came out with intensity the first time they play osu2, and I would be surprised if they came out flat in the Rose Bowl. Lanning has had them more mentally prepared than other coaches in the past.

I LOVE being the slight underdog to offset the psychological advantage osu2 has from losing the first meeting.

Steven A addressed this with Oregon's "fire in the eye's" for the Colorado game last season. One of the things I've really liked about this Oregon team is the Quiet, if you will, confidence it's had the whole season. We know from the video's that Lanning is a great motivator. But, on the field, Oregon is a machine.

I think that's a better mindset than the "palpable" emotion osu2 displayed before the Tennessee game that was never a contest. Energy, enthusiasm is finite. osu2 expended a lot of it for the Vols. How much do they have left for the Ducks? Meanwhile, Oregon will be the train it has been all season, staying on schedule, picking up speed, when necessary; but if you're stuck in the tracks when the Oregon Express coming, it's too late to get out of the way.
