cartm25 Author No. 2 Share Posted February 6 (edited) I've got some issues with his ranking. Here's my take: (1) Kirby Smart - A good QB away from winning it all again (2) Dabo Swinney - Took down Saban/Bama while they were in their prime (3) Ryan Day - Hard to keep him lower now that he's won an NC (4) Kalen DeBoer - Once he gets HIS QB, look out (5) Kyle Whittingham - He's been loyal to Utah. If he was HC at any marquee program, I think he'd have multiple NCs (6) Dan Lanning - Only thing he lacks, IMO, is more experience Don't like Marcus Freeman at #5, at all. My ranking of DL at #6 is not an insult in any way. He has as much upside or more than anyone on that list, but the business is tough, and those other coaches have been successful for a long time. If I had to start fresh with a program and had to pick a Top 3: (1) Dan Lanning, (2) Kalen DeBoer, and (3) Kirby Smart . . . and the order is intentional. 30Duck Moderator No. 3 Share Posted February 6 Well, I can't really find much to argue against your list, I still don't know what I think about Day, the credit for the Rose Bowl romp sits mainly on Chip. I still see Day as the coach who wins when his teams talent advantage is overwhelming. Whittingham has done a great job at Utah, and very likely would have some Natty's at a marquee program. Swinney has stayed away from the Portal, seems to have opened it a little bit, next season Clemson will be back. DeBoer actually did quite well with a QB exactly opposite of what he is best with, 5 for Freeman is a bit high. I think what Fisch did at UW last season was more impressive than what Cignetti did at Indiana. Cignetti didn't turn the team that went 3-9 the year before to 11-2.
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 4 Share Posted February 7 Day gets paid. But the Heat's still on. Ryan Day has his millions. He also still has Ohio State's impossible expectations - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Ohio State paid Day like an untouchable, but the pitchforks never stay down long
Nevada Dawg No. 5 Share Posted February 7 I think Freeman at 5, Franklin at 7 and Kelly at 8 are too high. I am no fan and this statement may not be popular in Eugene but Cristobal is too low at 22 IMHO.. I, too, am a fan of Whittingham but think that he belongs around # 9 or 10. Deion hasn't won a darn thing yet although the improvement in his Colorado teams during his tenure is obvious. His ranking at this point is tough to estimate from two data points--let's see what happens next year. 1
