2025 Football Recruiting: How the Future B1G Will Look

Recommended Posts

With the final 2025 National Letters of Intent signed, it now makes sense to examine the football recruiting for this incoming class among the 18 teams of the Big Ten (B1G) Conference. This overview does not include Portal Transfers, as there are not as many of those each year, (Oregon has only nine for 2025) and such players are meant to ...

My Duck Brothers and Sisters: We normally publish articles in the early morning, but in the offseason--I will sometimes have to publish at other times in the day due to the backlink orders I receive which help pay the bills. (You will see the ubiquitous sentence in them of, "Mr. FishDuck took a break from his fun at Top-Flight Casino site to delve into this important topic.") The rest of the article is written for you, our audience, but that sentence helps to pay the site bills.

This recruiting article has a TON to look at and consider, and I would hope you would take the time to look at the chart in the article and offer me your thoughts about the future of B1G teams based upon what you see. There are so many surprises in both directions, and frankly....I spent too much time in pondering and creating the article.

I wanted to publish this article this morning, but was waiting for final details from a SEO-PR company in Romania to provide the final details for the backlink order.  I just got the information at nearly midnight their time in Bucharest, and thus could now publish.

Thoughts about B1G recruiting?

A few thoughts: It will be hard to catch, much less surpass osu2, because OBD is still behind, catching up, but osu2 is not going to pause. Washington won't fall off the cliff, but as the fans cry and moan about how Oregon is USING NIL and the portal to BUY a championship, if they don't get into the swing of things, their split championship in '91 will be it. I'm pleased to see, "I win, Google Me" Cignetti and his "Emerging superpower, Indiana" sitting around the middle.

Thank you, Charles, great take.

Rivals ranking of 2026 classes to date has four B1G teams in the top 10. No. 1 OBD. No. 3 USC. No. 5 Penn State. No. 9 Illinois. To date, Ohio State is ranked 19th.

USC is not going quietly into the night. SC stole a 'GM' from Notre Dame, has reportedly increased its NIL chest, and is finally reaching out to California high schools. 2025 was not a great recruiting year for SC but Troy did flip a 5* QB from A+M, Husan Longstreet.

One UW, Washington, I agree is a threat with Fisch at the helm. Wisconsin? Luke Fickell is on thin ice and the Badgers 2025 schedule across the board is ranked the most difficult in the B1G. Week 3 sees Wisconsin playing at Alabama. Preseason rankings have the Badgers playing four ranked teams, including Bama and OBD on the road and ranked Ohio State and Illinois at home. Wisconsin also plays bowl teams Iowa, Minnesota, and UW.

When Wisconsin was winning the B1G West and sending teams to the Rose Bowl it never recruited in the top echelon but won with homegrown big-boy OL guys, terrific under-the-radar RBs, and solid D. With a new OC at Wisconsin, it will be interesting to see if the Badgers stop toying with the 'Dairy Raid' in 2025 and return to its smash-mouth roots.

If the House settlement is approved and with the Department of Education backing off on direct payments having to be the same for male and female athletes, it will be interesting to see how a $20.5M direct payment cap to athletes will affect recruiting. (It will also be interesting to see how long, without Congressional help, any cap on direct payments will be upheld.)

I expect that no matter the model, year after year B1G recruiting primacy will be a battle of the Os.

Thanks again.

Illinois with 16 starters back from a 10-3 team that defeated 9-4 South Carolina in its bowl game and with the 3rd easiest ranked 2025 B1G schedule, is the B1G champ sleeper pick in 2025.
