Jon Joseph Moderator No. 2 Share Posted April 10 Another 'Thank You' to my Editor. The Athletic continues to allow comments on its articles and the comments regarding the Wolverines coming in No. 1 were largely negative or censored. I expect this would be the case for any team that came in at the top. After all, 'Fan' is short for 'Fanatic.' This exercise did show that OBD is right there with the B1G's historic Big 3. When, not if the B1G goes to Eyes on the Prize and Eat What You Kill, the latter better not include home attendance. And it also emphasized that Notre Dame is The expansion prize. Cage the Cats! Charles Fischer Administrator No. 3 Share Posted April 10 The most stunning statistic in that article are the teams with the most most living alumni. I would assume Michigan and Ohio State, but to see the top one is Indiana? And to see that UCLA is one of the top ones as well, means they are highly under utilizing their fan base. 1 Mr. FishDuck
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 4 Share Posted April 10 Nice showing from our two LA full-share friends. USC - Most bet on. UCLA - Lots of grads. Otherwise, no appearances in the top 10 most-watched football teams or otherwise. It's a good thing FOX captured the LA market, right? The USC vs UCLA game was broadcast by FOX. Other than that, UCLA played Iowa and at UW on Friday night with both games kicking off at 9 PM Eastern. USC played Rutgers in LA on Friday night with the game kicking off at 11 PM Eastern. CBS covered SC at Michigan and Penn State at SC. Both games at 3:30 Eastern, went up against a top-draw SEC game broadcast by and promoted on ESPN. FOX kept ESPN out of the college football LA market but its college football broadcast 'strategy' led to an ESPN broadcast beatdown and SEC broadcast numbers lapping the B1G's numbers. Will FOX alter its 'strategy' in 2025, or continue to consult with Larry Scott?
Charles Fischer Administrator No. 5 Share Posted April 10 With that many LA fans...UCLA should be filling their 100K Rose Bowl, as other B1G teams are. But effectively they were acquired "low," and have a ton of upside. If either or both become good again--the numbers with their games with OBD should be superb. Indiana? I still cannot get over how Indiana has more living alumni than Ohio State or Michigan? Boy the B1G is huge, and has much more upside remaining! And it suggests that our home game versus the Hoosiers could be sold out! And they traveled really well to UCLA last year... 1 Mr. FishDuck
JabbaNoBargain No. 6 Share Posted April 10 (edited) IMO - LA will never be able to compete with the “not having anything else to do” edge they have in most college towns. Why would someone go watch crappy football when there are a hundred other things to do? Front-runner fans with good reason. It takes most of a Saturday to go see a game. Go to the Getty or watch my 3-7 Bruins play Purdue? Edited April 10 by JabbaNoBargain 1
30Duck Moderator No. 7 Share Posted April 10 I don't know if this guy should be counted as a "living" and, as for the Hoosiers, in a contest once, 1st prize was a paid weekend in Gary, Indiana, 2nd prize was 2 weekends. As far as popularity, I suspect, that maybe Notre Dame has more fans out of state than OBD does, maybe. I remember, back,72-74, watching replays of Notre Dame, with Tom Clements at QB. Or, let's count how many times, when this was the way it was done. an Oregon hat was on the table, one of 3 to be picked. The Duck, is world famous, the Wolverine is a Marvel character. The only reason that lately Corso has picked against The Duck is because everybody knows he should pick Oregon.
