Posted June 5Jun 5 Moderator Newer book that just came out that is worthwhile. Available in hardback, or Kindle on Amazon. Grew up in North Bend, and was in 4 th grade when Prefontaine broke the high school 2 mile record. A friend of my parents told us to go watch Prefontaine at a Marshfield track meet, so I can say that I saw him dominate an event as a senior before most knew of him. Beloved, and missed by all sports fans of that era.
June 5Jun 5 Moderator He came to talk to my class at Pleasant Hill. He didn't have much to say, but then we went up to the track and ran a lap, and no he wasn't the nice guest. He won. Pre.
June 5Jun 5 I ran on the same track as Pre... Once. He lapped me in the 2 mile, and probably could have done it again. I wasn't a great runner, but I thought I was decent... Til Pre.
June 6Jun 6 I remember when Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile and turned me into a track fan. Then Pre rekindled that original fire. They both live on.
June 14Jun 14 I'll have to take peek at that. I was in several classes with him at U of O and knew him pretty well, Tried to play racket ball with his sister and never scored a point.
