There's stupidity, and then there is stupidity on steroids, ESPN's FPI.

Texas remains No. 1? Notre Dame, without playing, drops 2 spots? Unless one is trying to make bookies rich, stay away from this Fraudulent Prediction Idiocy. Right, Kalen?

With apologies to Georgia, this latest poll doubles down on the embarrassment of the preseason poll, which ranked SEC Texas No. 1, Georgia No. 2, and Alabama No. 3, and eight SEC teams in the top 12, with Florida at No. 13. There's bias, and then there's Bias from Bristol, where the FPI is not sharp as a pistol.

Of course, the then No. 14 USC would have a lot of MOmentum as the result of blowing out MO. State and jump eight spots to No. 6. Right? As to Archie's debut in Columbus, where he had more appearances in advertisements than he did TD passes, nothing to see here, move right along.

SC defeats Georgia State this Saturday, a team that Week 1's, woefully underrated 🤪 No. 10-ranked Ole Miss bombed 63-7, and South Central should be the home of the highest-ranked It Just Means Less team.

Any caring person would take the poor FPI to the Programming Doctor for a wellness check. 😁 But ESPN and Greg Sankey will carry on using this 🤬to justify the SEC's six at-large teams in the 2025-26 12-team PO.

Mercy!

That would account for those ranking and the fact that they have the Ducks beating sc on that game's FPI.

Poop in, poop on steroids out!

I’m with you guys. It seems similar to the cable news networks and their ridiculousness between Fox and ESPN. Not a big fan of the Portnoy addition to Fox (Buckeye fandom) but at least he’ll say some outrageous things to counter the ESPN shenanigans.

Agree with the consensus in this thread. ESPN FPI deserves to be flushed down the toilet! This article speaks of it.

Ducks snubbed in the most drunk, inaccurate, useless ESPN FPI ranking ever

There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.

British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli never saw a football game, but he apparently knew more about it than ESPN, which updated its Football Performance Index after Week One in college football, only to come up with the most preposterous ranking ever.

The update was issued before AP No. 10 Miami's 27-24 win over No. 6 Notre Dame.

FPI purports to be "The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is."

It ranks all 136 teams based on 20,000 simulations, but something about their data or calculations is haywire.

ESPN’s FPI has been updated following Saturday of Week 1. No one can take this seriously ever again pic.twitter.com/IVzsX7meNk
