January 14Jan 14 No. When you are mourning the DUCKS loss to Indiana andYou are mourning the loss of Bobby Weir of The Greatful Dead
January 14Jan 14 No. I am definitely saddened by Bob's passing. My first Dead show was the '72 Veneta Country Fair. I was 11 (my oldest sister and her then boyfriend took me). An 11 year old left to wander about with 1000s of various "high" young adults? Probably the early education that I needed. In many respects, the Dead made me who I am today. And for that I'm grateful.
January 14Jan 14 Author No. Grateful Duck, you need this T shirt. I found it somewhere on line but a bit of warning. It has been washed three times and has gone from an XL to a small large so it is risky.I apparently went to high school with Bob Wier but it was a large high school and I was two years older so I did not know him. He just passed thru for a few months enroute to a private boarding school perhaps in Arizona. His class also had Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Menlo Atherton High School in Menlo Park, CA.

It's now "Edgewood Animal Clinic."Summer of '87 or '88. My young wife and I and only child at the time, pull in to get ice cream bars. Wife and kid go in. I'm in the only car there. Right outside the window by the cashier. She's talking to a guy. I then realize that it's Jerry.Wife and kid walk up and stand off the Jerry's side. Jerry turns and says something to her... Anyway, they came out and got in the car. And I ask her what he said to her. She said that he asked her if she wanted an autograph. To which she replied "No. I just want to pay for our ice creams..."I said "You know who that was don't you?" She said no. I said "Jerry Garcia, lead guitar for The Grateful Dead?" She said " Who's that?"Every now and then I bring it up. But I think my daughter gets a bigger chuckle out of it than her mom.

And for that I'm grateful. This is a little bit bizarre, because I was also 11 years old in the summer of '72 and I went to that same "Oregon Renaissance Faire" (before they changed the name to the Oregon Country Fair). What are the odds of that?I was also there in '71. Not my favorite memories as a kid, but I was there as well.
