After that, every time we visited him in Molalla, it was a game night ritual to sit around his massive vintage radio, eating popcorn, and consuming appropriate beverages...Dad, Grandpa, Uncle George, my brother's and myself, plus a couple of cousins who lived in the area. Lucky he had a massive bedroom!
Thursday at 11:50 PM3 days No. When living in the country of Whidbey Island WA and no US tv reception, the Canadian tv channels came in perfect. I started my first hockey addiction every Saturday night with "Hockey Night in Canada" with Don Cherry. Besides going to Vancouver for NHL games we found going to Seattle much easier to watch the Junior League Seattle Thunderbirds.

Who coached the Olde Towne Team, the Boston Bruins, and in 1976 won the Jack Adams COY award.A hockey commentator icon who, like the Flyers' Dave Shultz, never pulled any punches. Thanks for the icy blast from the past.
Saturday at 08:42 PM1 day Author Moderator No. An Arctic Blast from the Past. When the puck was dropped in Beaver Stadium at 1 ET, with the wind chill factor, it was 8 degrees. 🤢The HS where I played hockey now has a beautiful indoor rink. When I played, the rink was outdoors. It was a quarter-mile-plus walk back to the locker room.I learned that you should take a cold shower before a hot shower. The cold removed the icicles from your face without the stinging pain from a hot shower. Rookies had to learn this on their own, to the laughter of the older guys. 🤬BTW, as is often said in Boston, "I've been married 20 years, but it feels like 30 with the wind chill factor." 😁On Netflix tonight, you can catch the movie Miracle on Ice. A great take on the USA hockey team upsetting the Russians on the way to a Gold Medal in Lake Placid, NY, in 1980.Also, wax your boards. The lifts in South Carolina will be opening soon. 😶🌫️It's a winter wonderland in Dixie.
6 hours ago6 hr No. Winter Olympics start next week!!! I like hockey, ski jumping, ice skating, indoor speed skating, and even curling. It's been over forty years since the miracle on ice. It's time for gold again.
1 hour ago1 hr No. So my dad moved us from CA to BC Canada when I was 11. I learned hockey following the Vancouver Canucks, when they weren't too good. It was several years before they didn't lose to the Montreal Canadiens, a 0-0 tie!The era of John Ferguson, Yvan Cournoyer, Frank Mohovolich and others. Bobby Orr was the 'great' before Gretzky.I had season tickets to Pdx Winterhawks for a few years in late 80's. Great times. Was there for the Memorial Cup.I'm hoping the Ducks will one day be a true varsity team. NIL will help get quality players. Could be awesome.Btw, I was at Oregon my last year when the Olympics 'miracle on ice' took place. I was so ecstatic, tried to convince my friends of the incredible event, none were impressed or cared. But I remember very well, "do you believe in miracles?"Yes I do!Sco Ducks!!
