Laya earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honors

EUGENE, Ore. – It did not take Angel Laya long to make his mark at Oregon. The Ducks starting right fielder during the season’s opening weekend earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after leading the Ducks to a series sweep of George Mason.

Laya slashed .538/.600/1.077 with a 1.677 OPS. He finished with three extra-base hits including two  home runs and a double. Laya had multiple-hits in the first two games while reaching base multiple times in all four contests.

He went 3-for-4 in the season opener with a double and two runs scored. In game two, he homered twice and drove in three runs, before going 1-for-2 with a run scored and a hit by pitch in the nightcap of a doubleheader. Laya capped the weekend reaching base twice and driving in a run in a win on Sunday.
