While the transfer portal is an important tool in roster management in modern college football, many contributing starters spend time on the team developing as young players. In this article, I present my findings from reviewing the garbage time footage of Oregon’s offense this season that features developmental players. These players are usually in their first two years in the program and did not see regular playing time until the outcome of the game has already been decided.Readers should note that the sample of plays for each of these players is relatively small. Further, playcalling by both teams tends to be different to reflect the game effectively being over when these players are on the field.Addicted To QuackFootball: 2025 Developmental Player Film ReviewBreaking down the film during non-representative play of Oregon’s depth that may play a role in future seasons.

5 hours ago5 hr Author Moderator No. What will Oregon do with all its talented receivers? Play ‘positionless football,’ coach says“We’re not evaluating receivers, I evaluate skill sets,” Ducks wide receivers coach Ross Douglas said. “Because if you’re a good football player, you should be able to play anything. So, it’s really positionless football here in my room. Whether you’re outside, whether you’re inside, you should be able to plug and play anywhere. All those guys have unique skillsets, whether it’s speed, contested catch ability, twitch, ball skills.”There are three primary positions for a receiver: X, Y and Z. The X lines up wide, typically on the opposite side of the tight end and often with the intent to make a big play downfield. The Y is in the slot receiver position closer to the offensive line, best utilized for quick-hitters. And the Z is typically on the same side as the tight end, occasionally put in motion with the ability to make big plays after the catch.“It’s a blessing,” Douglas said. “One, our quarterback is one of the best in the United States of America, I think, NFL or college. We have really good tight ends, we have good backs, we have good wideouts. And the thing about them, they’re all selfless. Like, there’s only one football to go around, but everyone wants to see each other win.”https://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/2026/04/what-will-oregon-do-with-all-its-talented-receivers-play-positionless-football-coach-says.html
