Oregon Heavy Favorites to Land 4-Star CB Caleb Presley

Recommended Posts

The June recruiting push is already starting to bear fruit.  Caleb Presley (per 247) is the #9 CB, #78 player over, and #2 player in Washington.

After landing Washington’s No. 1 player — Josh Conerly — in 2022, Oregon is now predicted to land the No. 2 player in Washington in 2023.

Landing him would be pretty sweet, he's a very high end blue chip and would also antagonize the Huskie fanbase even further.  Best case scenario is also landing Jayden Wayne who's the #1 player in the state...incidentally things are looking good for the Ducks with him as well!

Presley is a 4-Star on Rivals as well.  If we got both Washington players--it would be beyond just sweet from so many angles.  We really need lock-down corners, and elite pass-rushers; come to Oregon!

You know there is a lot of highly rated football talent ooozing out of Washington high schools, fortunately they have enough prowess to get out of there!

We ridicule the Washington Huskies relentlessly, and it is certainly all well-deserved. We call them witless and depraved. We lampoon their odious colors. We hope for an errant Tomahawk missile to sink those obnoxious boats outside Husky Stadium (with no casualties, of course.) After all, we’re not cruel like the Huskies are—they voted us out of the 1948 Rose Bowl.

But putting mockery aside for a few moments, it begs the question: why are the Huskies hemorrhaging talent among coaches and players, and why are recruits shunning Washington like a Mario Cristobal avoids offense? And conversely, why are Our Beloved Ducks striking proverbial gold in attracting gifted coaches and playmakers?

I think it can be summed up in a single word: branding. Washington is yesterday, Oregon is today. The Huskies aren’t a cool destination; Oregon is. Does anyone think that Washington could have snagged Dan Lanning as their coach? No. Lanning is too cool—he just won a national title as DC with an SEC powerhouse. So he signed on with the cool school--Oregon.

The Huskies settled for Kalen DeBoer from Fresno State, not exactly the coolest place on the planet. (If you remember “Fresno,” the TV miniseries, please leave the room posthaste.) Word is that DeBoer is an okay coach but you’ll never see his likeness on a recruitment poster. Put a different way, in recruits’ living rooms, he’s DeBore.

It’s doubtful that DeBoer can magically elevate the flailing Washington brand, which has taken some devastating hits lately—a 4-8 season in 2021, a home loss to lowly Montana, the PR nightmare that was Jimmy Lake. Your garden-variety atomic bomb causes less damage.

Any current recruit was not only not born when “The Pick” occurred—their parents probably hadn’t even met yet. That’s how long ago that happy occasion was. Today’s recruits have no memory of Washington being a better destination than Oregon. Yes, there was that two-year blip where the Huskies won two games, good riddance Helfrich & Taggart, but make no mistake, it was a blip, like a hiccup after downing a 7-Up.

The Ducks have won 15 of the last 17 games against Washington. That’s not dominance. It’s DOMINANCE. It’s something cool that Oregon coaches can play up when going head-to-head against the Huskies on the recruiting trail. Meanwhile, you just know that DeBoer and his cohorts cringe when recruits ask, “Why can’t you guys beat Oregon?” The truthful answer—“Because we suck”—is the one that they can’t say.

Husky fans—demented as they are—complain that Oregon is Nike U. Of course, the Ducks have benefited from masterful branding courtesy of the marketing gurus at Nike. Why don’t the harebrained Huskies ask for marketing help from Amazon, or Microsoft, or Starbucks? Will those doltish blockheads ever redesign their grotesque football uniforms? Husky cheerleaders still wear those repugnant sweaters that were fashionable during the Truman years.

Yes, Washington is suffering attrition--losing coaches, players, and recruits--and we will unabashedly cheer as it continues. It’s just not cool to be a Husky. Those who choose to abscond from dumpy, dopey Seattle are the smartest of pups, and once they escape that ghastly, dreadful school, these now ex-dawgs can finally have their day.

Meanwhile, the Ducks will have their days and weeks and months and years and decades and centuries and millennia and eons, just for starters.

I need a reaction emoji that is a fist slamming on the table...even better than a mic-drop.  Now I wish we had the full collection of Axel's third-degree burns on the Huskies...so many epic ones already!
