After the conference and Larry Scott came to a mutual agreement to part ways, the Conference, and Scott,  need to spend their time, before Scott officially leaves in June, finding, and hiring, his successor.

From Pac-12.com

I find it interesting that Larry Scott officially leaves in June but continues to get paid for many months after that. The guy knows how to work it for himself.

Appointing this firm takes the pressure off the Pac-12 Executive Committee, as they cannot be blamed later!

If it's the same Executive Committee that hired Scott in the first place, this is a good idea.

The farther away, the Executive Committee that found Scott stays away from the process this time, the better.
