Cal Needs to Alter Half-Full, Half-Empty Approach Before Oregon Visits

The Bears had stretches of success vs. Washington, but no consistency.

The Bears will play the rest of the season without senior offensive lineman Matthew Cindric, whose 33 career starts are the most on the team.

The line has been an issue for Cal all season, as evidenced by the 23 times QB Plummer has been sacked. Washington took him down five times.

Bears played well on offense and defense at times vs. UW but could not sustain it.

I wonder if there's anyone left at CAL who remembers Tosh Lupoi when he was on staff?  His exit from the program was, how shall we say, checkered ?  If you aren't familiar with that, you can google it up.

I don't think it will make any difference in the game but he was CAL's D.C. too, once.

Cal Football: Winning Is Rarely in the Bag Without Sacks

The Cal and Oregon defenses each have recorded 13 quarterback sacks this season.

It may be easier for the Ducks than the Bears to add to their total Saturday when the teams meet at Memorial Stadium.

The Bears' pass rush is just average and the Ducks' star has been sacked only once.

No. 8 Oregon aims to keep rolling against Cal

Nix has averaged 272.7 passing yards in his last six games with 17 touchdowns and just one interception.

The Auburn transfer also has rushed for eight touchdowns in his last five outings.

Meanwhile, Cal’s Jack Plummer has just 12 touchdown passes in seven games, although he’s coming off a game against Washington in which he

equaled his season high with three. The Purdue transfer threw for 245 yards without an interception against the Huskies in arguably his best performance for Cal.

Bryan Addison coming into his own during fifth season

Bryan Addison's third season at defensive back has allowed him to expand his skillset. Still utilized primarily on passing downs,

Addison has proven a tougher overall player this season than in the past.

Addison, a fifth-year junior, credits head coach Dan Lanning for getting the most out of him. "I'd say coach Lanning really instilled that [toughness] in me —

like you've got to be physical back there on the back-end," Addison said. "Being physical is one thing he preached to me, and I've taken it and run with it every day."

Cal Plays Low-Scoring, Close Games, but Can't Win Them

Bears are 1-8 in one-score contests since the start of 2021. Offensive shortcomings have a lot to do with it.

Cal has outscored its opponents 163-158 this season, yet the Bears have a losing record at 3-4. Since the start of the 2021 season,

the Bears have outscored their foes 448-425; however, they have an 8-11 record in that span. What gives?
