Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted February 14, 2021 The Sunday morning paper in Eugene had an article about the process of the territory becoming the state of Oregon, since it was recognized on February 14, 1859. An interesting tidbit was how the state politicians decided to move the location of the state/territorial capital from Salem to Corvallis in 1855, but the federal government refused to recognize the change. So both houses convened in Corvallis and promptly voted to move the capital back to Salem. Can't say I blame them! Back to Salem! nogerO No. 3 Share Posted February 15, 2021 On the off chance you're new to the state here are the, ahem, directions from Eugene to Corvallis. 1. Go North until you smell it. 2. Go West until you step in it.
