Men's Basketball: Phil Knight Invitational

Phil Knight Invitational, Legacy tournaments bring bevy of elite men’s basketball teams to Portland

As Knight now approaches his 85th birthday, the tournament will return with seven teams

currently ranked in the AP top 25 as well as all four of Oregon’s Division I programs.

With games tipping off from morning to late evening for three days in three different venues,

the event will feel much like a multi-stage music festival: you can’t see everything, so you’ll have to pick

and choose who you want to see most. Think of it as Coachella for college hoops.

Oregon men’s basketball leaning on N’Faly Dante, Will Richardson entering PKI

Oregon has leaned heavily on center N’Faly Dante (14.8 points, 9.0 rebounds),

who is having the best four-game stretch of his career thus far.

He played a career-high 35 minutes against Houston and sustaining his level of play against

premier competition over three games in four days will be a massive task.

This team might just have a losing season, it's that bad in terms of the guard play, I just don't get what Altman has been looking for in the guys he's recruited, there's no shooting in this team, even if you look at Barthelemy and Cousinard neither of them are good shooters, it's like Altman has gone away completely from what has work for him in the past.

He used to recruit good shooters with guys at the wing positions who were athletic and could defend multiple positions.  Now it's a plodding team of big men who while talented have nobody to pass to the outside, so teams can just collapse with no worry about the three ball.  A lot of recruiting misses, Bittle is a disappointment, Soares has not made many strides, Guerrier is not anywhere near some of the 4s we've had in the past.

Cousinard, Rigsby, and Butler better be huge upgrades on the players already playing or else this team isn't going to be anywhere near a borderline tourney team.

The only player that seems to be fulfilling his potential is Dante, he's trying, but it's hard to carry the load when nobody else is capable of getting a bucket.  Ware as well seems like he might have the talent to justify his high recruiting.

Maybe I'm bad mouthing the players too much, but this is just hard to watch, and it's beginning to be what I expect from Oregon basketball (get embarrassed on national TV)

Oregon suffers blowout loss to UCONN to open the PK85

Thursday night in Portland was a tough showing for the Oregon Ducks as they went into the game with just seven scholarship

players and a Top 25 opponent on the docket. The game didn't go nearly as anyone hopped, and the Ducks were blown out.

The Huskies made nearly 50 percent of the 3-point attempts in the game and finished the game making 17 of 37  from beyond

the 3-point line. The Ducks, meanwhile, struggled on the offensive end of the floor without its shooters available to play. UCONN

packed the paint and dared Oregon's forwards so shoot the ball from three. The Ducks ended up making just five from 3-point land.

Severely shorthanded Oregon men’s basketball routed by No. 20 UConn

Oregon has no depth due to injuries. UConn has no such challenges.

With injuries mounting and more tough opponents on the way, Oregon is in a tough spot

The Ducks are 2-3 through its first five games of the season, the second straight year they've had this start to a season.

Life only gets harder too for Oregon. The Ducks will play a Top 25 opponent on Friday night in No. 12 Michigan State.

Next week league play starts with a home game against Washington State and then a road trip against No. 19 and preseason favorite UCLA.

Oregon is having to ride this wave of opponents with just seven healthy scholarship players, and the losses are mounting.

Keeping this team's confidence levels high is almost as important right now as getting wins.

Oregon looking to end two-game losing streak in tough matchup vs No. 12 Michigan State

The Ducks will face the No. 12 Michigan State Spartans and head coach Tom Izzo

in a Friday night game in the consolation bracket of the PK85 Invitational.

The Ducks have lost three of their last four games, including two being blowouts.

They lost on Thursday to No. 20 UCONN 83-59.

"We didn't respond very well," UO coach Dana Altman said. "Bigs didn't get out and cover a

number of times, our perimeter defense wasn't good, and then they just hit shots."

At this point I believe the team is cursed, I don't know what the team did to get this curse, but I don't think I've ever seen a team get this injured in a season.

I'm going to give this team some major props, they're playing extremely hard, the walk-ons have been put in a impossible position, the schollie players are sometimes playing 3 on 5, and they're giving a quality opponent all they can get.
