Ducks extend offer to 2025 QB Akili Smith Jr., son of Oregon legend

One of Dan Lanning’s biggest points when taking over as the head coach of the Oregon Ducks was that he wanted to keep the family in Eugene tight and make sure that past alumni felt at home with the current regime.

He did a great job of making sure that happens this week, extending a scholarship offer to Akili Smith Jr., a 2025 quarterback out of California.

The name obviously rings a bell; Smith Jr. is the son of Oregon legend Akili Smith, who was the starting QB in Eugene for the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Smith threw for 45 touchdowns in his two seasons.

Oregon Legacy Akili Smith Jr. Discusses Ducks Offer

Will Stein and the Ducks recently extended an offer to a big-time Oregon legacy.

Smith towers over most at 6'6" and 205 pounds. The first play I saw from him was a beautiful deep pass down the sideline

that was turned into a touchdown. He already has seven reported offers including Michigan, Miami, Arizona and Fresno State.

"Super excited cause obviously my dad went there," he said of getting offered by Stein and the Ducks. "He's always shown

me Oregon and all that. Had me watch the games and stuff. Always fun to see them win, do the fight song."

Oregon started his recruitment with running backs coach Carlos Locklyn extending the offer.

"Coach Locklyn offered me as an athlete but more so as a linebacker," said Epperson.

Oregon WR commit Dallas Wilson quickly rising among top-ranked players in 2025 class

On January 17, 2023, a player by the name of Dallas Wilson announced that he was committing to the Oregon Ducks.

I had never heard of him, and I’m sure that a lot of Oregon fans were with me in asking “Who?” when the news came out.

Upon further research, it turned out that Wilson was a wide receiver from Florida in the class of 2025 who had received an offer from Oregon just hours before offering his verbal commitment. He was unrated by all of the major recruiting websites, so it was hard to get a feeling for how excited fans were to get about his commitment. He looked good, but nobody knew too much about him just yet.

Knight plays his prep football at George County high school in Mississippi and is rated as the No. 11 QB in the country for the 2025 class. Regardless of position, Knight ranks 213th in the country. He is also rated as the No. 8 prospect in the state.

Prior to his offer from Oregon, Knight holds offers from 18 programs, including schools like Notre Dame, Tennessee, Auburn, and defending national champion Georgia.

Oregon offers 5-star in the 2025 class

The Ducks have offered a prospect in the 2025 class and he's a five-star

Oregon's football staff has offered a scholarship to one of the best offensive linemen prospects in the 2025 class. Oregon's assistant offensive line coach Cutter Leftwhich extended an offer to the 5-star prospect on Tuesday, May 9th.

Solomon Thomas is a 6-foot-3, 278-pound prospect out of the state of Florida and Raines high school located in Jacksonville. He's currently ranked as the No. 16 player in the country by the 247Sports Composite Rankings, an average of all the recruiting rankings. 247Sports independently ranks Thomas as a four-star prospect and the No. 35 overall player in the country. 247Sports ranks Thomas as the No. 3 offensive lineman in the country for the 2025 class. Schools to have previously offered Thomas include Florida, Florida State, Miami, Nebraska, and South Carolina.

Oregon could be looking to sign upward to six offensive linemen in the 2025 recruiting class due to players going pro or graduating following the 2023 and 2024 football seasons, but a set number won't be locked in for awhile now. Oregon will know a better number closer to this time next year.

Earlier this month, the Ducks extended a scholarship offer to the No. 1 rated offensive tackle prospect in the 2025 class in David Sanders, out of North Carolina.

Currently, the Oregon Ducks hold one commitment in the 2025 recruiting class, and that is from 4-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson out of Tampa Bay Tech in Florida. Oregon currently holds two verbal commitments from two offensive tackles in the 2024 class: 4-star Fox Crader and 3-star Trent Ferguson.

A new offer goes out to the top prospect in Washington.

Dan Lanning and the Oregon football program have evaluated a new prospect based out of the Pacific Northwest and have decided to offer a scholarship offer now. The offer came after Oregon's Special Team's Coordinator Joe Lorig made an eval and the scholarship offer was announced Friday.

2025 4-star linebacker Zaydrius Rainey-Sale out of Bethel high school in the Seattle area was offered a scholarship by Lorig and the Ducks. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound linebacker is rated as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Washington by the 247Sports Composite Rankings, and he's ranked 96th nationally regardless of position. The 247Sports Rankings are even better, as Rainey-Sale is ranked 71st overall regardless of position, the No. 11 linebacker in the country, and the No. 2 prospect in the state of Washington for the 2025 class.

Oregon offers scholarship to 4-star running back out of Maryland

Another scholarship offer has gone out to a star running back based in Maryland.

The Oregon Ducks continue their spree of scholarship offers to the 2025 recruiting class as the staff continues to hit the entire country, making evaluation stops at high schools nationwide. The latest scholarship offer went out to yet another running back in the class of 2025.

Tuesday afternoon 247Sports Composite 4-star running back Iverson Howard, out of Quince Orchard high school in Maryland, landed the offer from the Ducks. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound prospect shared his scholarship offer from Oregon running back coach Carlos Locklyn on social media. Howard sits as the No. 263 overall prospect in the 2025 class and a rating of .0992, the No. 25 running back in the nation, and the No. 8 player in the state of Maryland for his class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

The 247Sports Rankings are very similar to the industry average, ranking Howard as a 3-star prospect with a rating of 88. 247Sports rankings Howard as the 25th-best running back in the country and the eighth-best prospect in the 2025 class in the state of Maryland.

Despite just being a sophomore, Howard already holds nearly 20 scholarship offers. Some of the other programs that have offered him are Boston College, Cincinnati, Maryland, Michigan, Ole Miss, Penn State, and Wisconsin.

Great news, not just because he's a legacy player, but this kid has scary good potential. Big, strong, fast and even as a soph. makes both the throws that need a strong arm and the touch throws. He's good at avoiding a rush and runs to pass more than as a rusher, but is a good runner if he needs to be.

Oregon offers 2025 4-star QB out of Texas

Oregon has extended a new offer at the QB position.

The Oregon Ducks have one commitment already in the 2024 recruiting class in Luke Moga, could be close to landing a second in Michael Van Buren, and now are starting to put a lot of focus on the 2025 class at QB.

With that focus comes evaluating their targets and issuing out new scholarship offers. The Ducks have done just that on Wednesday morning in the state of Texas.

Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein was in Texas making evaluations and offered a prospect that he's been familiar with due to his previous coaching role at UTSA. Stein offered 6-foot QB Ty Hawkins of the 2025 recruiting class. Hawkins is a 6-0, 185-pounder out of Claudia Taylor Johnson High School in San Antonio. Hawkins is rated as a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, is rated No. 18 in the country at the position, and the 41st best prospect in Texas. 247Sports ranks Hawkins as the No. 16 best QB in the country, the 39th best prospect in Texas, and has ranked Hawkins as a 3-star.

Ducks extend offer to 2025 QB after recent visit

It appears that the Oregon Ducks, and offensive coordinator Will Stein in particular, like what they see from 2025 QB Jamar Malone.

After the Ducks extended an offer to Malone a year ago, they re-offered him with Stein at the helm of the offense this past week following Malone’s visit to Eugene. Standing at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, the 2025 product has some great size to him, and has obviously caught the attention of the Ducks.

Oregon Hosting 5-Star WR Dakorien Moore as Recruitment Ramps Up

Oregon isn't wasting any time prioritizing top targets on the recruiting trail.

On Tuesday, 2025 Duncanville (Tex.) wide receiver Dakorien Moore will visit Oregon alongside 2024 5-star edge rusher and teammate Colin Simmons.

"Right now some of the schools are picking up wanting to contact me, getting close to that date where we can actually contact them more and more. Some of the coaches getting active with it right now."

Ducks land among top schools for elite 4-star LB in 2025

A lot of the focus in the college football recruiting world at the moment is aimed at the 2024 class, but that doesn’t mean that the groundwork for the 2025 class isn’t currently being laid.

When it comes to some of the top defensive players, it comes as no surprise that Dan Lanning is putting the Oregon Ducks in a good position.

On Monday afternoon, 4-star linebacker DJ McClary announced his top eight schools, listing the Ducks along with schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, and USC, among others.

McClary is rated as the No. 10 LB and the No. 91 overall player in the 2025 class, per the 247Sports Composite.

Talented '25 WR Caden Butler saw his stock soar this off-season

Long Beach Poly (Calif.) junior wide out Caden Butler blew up this off-season, picking up nine scholarships during the month of June.

Butler, who transferred in to Poly after previously playing at Olathe (Kan.) North, saw his stock soar after multiple impressive summer camp showings.

He has nine total scholarship offers and picked up eight of them in June. Oregon State was the first school to jump on board, offering in mid-May.

Butler turned in MVP performances at the NW Showcase and the Avery Strong Showcase in early June. Oregon was next up to offer and didn’t even wait until the camp was over.

“It was during one on ones and we had a little water break,” Butler said. “I talked with Junior Adams and then Dan Lanning walked over to me. He asked who had offered me so far and I told him just Oregon State so far.

Talented RB Karson Cox lands dream offer from Oregon

Hesperia (Calif.) Oak Hills junior running back Karson Cox picked up a dream offer earlier today.

Cox is one of the top backs out West, regardless of class. He’s a two way player at the HS level but we like him on the offensive side of the ball in college.

He really came on as a sophomore and finished the year with 1,215 yards and 18 touchdowns while averaging nearly 10 yards a carry. He had six catches for 150 yards and two more scores out of the backfield and has a nice combination of size, speed and power.

On the recruiting front, Cox holds scholarship offers from Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, SMU, UNLV, Washington and Washington State and you can now add the Oregon Ducks to that list.

“Oregon is one of my dream schools growing up so I’m very excited about this one,” Cox said. “I really wasn’t expecting it so it was a pleasant surprise this morning for sure.

Oregon makes top group for elite 5-star edge defender in Class of 2025

Zion Grady is over a year from signing to play college football, but he’s already narrowing the focus of his recruitment. Grady, the top edge-defender in the Class of 2025, named his top 10 teams.

As one might expect, the Troy, Alabama native is showing a strong interest in playing in the SEC. He’s also considering playing in the Pac-12.

Oregon is the only 2025 Pac-12 team to make the cut for Grady’s top 10. The Ducks will compete with Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Tennessee, Texas and USC to land Grady.

Four-Star '25 QB Bear Bachmeier talks recent offers and previews upcoming visit to Oregon

Coming off scholarship offers from Alabama and Notre Dame, Oregon will host one of the nation's top junior signal callers this weekend.

Murrieta Valley (Calif.) junior quarterback Bear Bachmeier is set to check out the Oregon Ducks this weekend.

Bachmeier is one of the top quarterbacks in the ’25 class. He’s rated the No. 153 prospect nationally in the 247Sports Composite and No. 243 in the Top247.

He put up big numbers as a sophomore, throwing for 2,853 yards with 26 touchdowns with just four interceptions while rushing for another 644 yards and 18 score.

He’s a true dual-threat quarterback who can stress a defense with his arm or his legs. Often times the term, ‘dual-threat’ is used to define a quarterback who’s more advanced as a runner but Bachmeier is a legitimate pocket passer and would still be highly touted even if he couldn’t run around and make the plays he does.

On the recruiting front, Oregon is making a strong push with Bachmeier and he will be on campus this weekend for the Ducks Saturday Night Live event.
