More NIL Questions Amidst a Tragedy

Recommended Posts

Superstar college player signs NIL deal for a vehicle - then said vehicle is involved in a crime.  Not great publicity.

What happens to the NIL deal in a situation like this?  Carter is leaving UGA anyway, but what if he had planned to come back?

Oh, so many questions...

Carter is projected to be among the top selections in the 2023 NFL Draft

New NCAA president Baker, in an interview with the Athletic, admitted that he has no concrete ideas as to how to control NIL. (BTW, Baker is not relocating to NCAA HQ in Indianapolis.)

He wants 'full NIL disclosure' but has no regulatory plan because of the litigation concerns.

I have no idea what happened to the Transition Committee co-chaired by the SEC's Greg Sankey. Most pundits believed that the committee would recommend that the P5 and G5 regulate CFB and CBB on their own. So far nothing. This means the NCAA is still the regulating body for over 1100 schools from P5 down to D3. Impossible to align the athletic goals of D3 institutions with Ohio State and the other big P5 programs.

I see NIL being unregulated until there is a representative body of athletes with which to negotiate. However, who or what will be doing the negotiating for 'management?'
