Men's Basketball: Ducks Get a Shooter in the Transfer Portal
GeotechDuck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yeah...not sure what is happening, but this doesn't seem like the solution to our issues. Altman keeps complaining about needing "shot makers" and not "shot takers", but the coaches keep taking low percentage shooters at the guard position. This guy has Tracey type stats, but against lower level competition and without the length and experience in the program. A little bit of a head scratcher, but hopefully he proves me wrong. - Yesterday

Men's Basketball: Ducks Get a Shooter in the Transfer Portal
JB89 replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I agree. Seems more like someone to add depth rather to be a starter. Which is ok as long as we find some players that have been starters on a power 4 team. The WBB team went to the tournament because they upgraded their portal transfers this past year vs their transfers in the previous year. -

It's clear that the NIL is leaning heavily to the football side, not that I'm complaining, but I hope there's enough to get Bittle to come back, as for getting other players to come over, it is what it is. -

Pac-12: Remember That Quarterback League?
30Duck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yeah, it was fun, remember that game against ASU. when that QB named Daniels got a 4th and 16? Whatever happened to him? Charles is right, it's a top heavy conference, and last season, OBD was the heaviest. We'll get to know the rest of the teams, it'll take a while, but that's okay. A lot better than having the games on The CW. -

The Most Popular Team in College Football is … Michigan?
30Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I don't know if this guy should be counted as a "living" and, as for the Hoosiers, in a contest once, 1st prize was a paid weekend in Gary, Indiana, 2nd prize was 2 weekends. As far as popularity, I suspect, that maybe Notre Dame has more fans out of state than OBD does, maybe. I remember, back,72-74, watching replays of Notre Dame, with Tom Clements at QB. Or, let's count how many times, when this was the way it was done. an Oregon hat was on the table, one of 3 to be picked. The Duck, is world famous, the Wolverine is a Marvel character. The only reason that lately Corso has picked against The Duck is because everybody knows he should pick Oregon. -

Pac-12: Remember That Quarterback League?
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yep, we clearly had more balance in the Pac-12 at that time, and you had to be ready every week. So many of our B1G games...our opponent did not have a chance. It is a top-heavy conference, and I am glad to be in the top of it. -

Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I am over it, as I like the prestige of a Super-Conference that we are doing pretty well in. If we had saved the Pac-12? We would be BURIED right now, and I doubt that we would still have Lanning, etc. as what materialized--turned into a much worse situation for the "have-nots" than I could have imagined. The time-zone thing is REAL... Don't Believe Me? Ask Beavis... -

I was reading the bio of Tony Bennett the other day for reasons. I found out the retired national championship coach left Washington State because the school cancelled his recruiting visits for budgetary reasons. This was fifteen years ago, not today. How in the world can a P5 program with recent success not have the money for their coach to travel to see recruits? That's just plain embarrassing. Bennett had turned down the Indiana job in 2009. He was about to call Virginia to tell them he would do the same, his wife intervened and asked him if he really wanted to turn that job down.

Men's Basketball: Ducks Get a Shooter in the Transfer Portal
spartan2785 replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I don't want to be that guy, but this feels very similar to when they got Ra'heim Moss, Estrada, Zarzuela, the list goes on. A scorer who shot 36% from 3 and 42% overall in a lower level league, does not sound like an impact player at all. I could be wrong, but I'm not exactly overwhelmed with confidence this is the guy to replace Bamba or Key. -
IMO - LA will never be able to compete with the “not having anything else to do” edge they have in most college towns. Why would someone go watch crappy football when there are a hundred other things to do? Front-runner fans with good reason. It takes most of a Saturday to go see a game. Go to the Getty or watch my 3-7 Bruins play Purdue?

What? Beavers to the Big-12...
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Agreed. As Jon Joseph explained to me about why Cal and Stanford were NOT invited the B1G...."they would not be accretive to the conference." Would their revenues add to the revenue share each B1G school was getting, or would everyone's revenue share drop because of the addition of the Bay Area schools? It is the latter, hence why the ACC got a sweetheart deal in taking them. Thus the Coug-Its and Beavis have nothing to offer a Power-4 conference.... -
An article by John Canzano reminded me of how incredible the final season (2023) of the Pac-12 was with quarterbacks. Bo Nix, Oregon, picked in first round by Denver. Michael Penix, Washington, picked in the first round by Atlanta. Caleb Williams, USC, picked in the first round by Chicago. Cam Ward, Washington State, about to be picked as No. 1 pick in 2025 Draft. Noah Fifita, Arizona Shedeur Sanders, Colorado, about to highly picked in 2025 Draft. Fernando Mendoza, Cal. DJ Uiagalelei, Oregon State Every week was tough on defensive backs...whew!

Hawkeyes Will Be a Very Tough Away Game for the Ducks
HDuck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think one of the more interesting things about Big Ten stadiums is location based on their age. Many of the older stadiums were built on the edge of town, then the town grew up around them. As a result, many don't have nearby parking lots. So, nearby residents often rent their front lawns for parking and/or tailgaters. Walking through a neighborhood can be a cruise through a festive environment. You might invite a friend to a tailgater by saying, "we'll be at 542 Elm St" because they rent space in a front yard for a whole season, or multiple seasons. The homeowner charges rent, and uses part of the rent money for visitors access to water, electricity and use of a rented porta potty. It can be a lengthy walk from a parking location to the stadium. Kind of a fan version of the Ducks Mo Center march to victory. And, a real traffic jam after the game is over unless there is a post-game tailgater.
