I think McIlroy, Thomas and Rahm have pretty much said exactly that, without the easy part. The easy part only works for Woods and Nicklaus. Mickelsons main complaint was the PGA Tour making huge sums of money off the players back , not returning enough of it to the players. LIV shows up with giant sums of money, offering to pay large amounts over 2-3 years for only 8 tournaments a year, which is more than many of them have made in their total career prize money. I could see how it would be hard for many of the middle of the road and older pros to turn that down. I'm sure there will be more defectors as time goes on. Tough times for professional golf.

I've also always liked that they must earn their money by being competative as well. Golf is a high participation sport, and is highly watched for entertainment. Is it right that a pro football, basketball, or baseball player hauls in a boatload of money whether he plays, is injured, is a backup, or isn't the best player playing? Golfers work at least as hard, if not much harder, to perfect their talent. Most put in a full day of practice almost every day. Yet they get nothing unless they perform well each week. Shouldn't the playing field be a little more level for them when compared to athletes in other sports? But I also don't have an answer how the PGA could or should deal with this.

Golf is a unique sport in that, with just a few exceptions, you only get money if you compete well. There are just a few appearance payouts, and more is made from endorsements for the most prolific players than prize money. Compare this to an NFL quarterback, or an pro basketball star.
When Phill Mickelson initially talked about the LIV tour, his goal was to use it to pressure the PGA tour to stop being so cheap, and pay the players more. He got so much backlash about the human rights issues and the LIV tour that he lost most of his sponsors and he went into hiding. Because that went nowhere, he resurfaced, $200M richer, and signed on with LIV.
It's disappointing that the PGA hasn't made a better effort to take care of their players. While it's helped make a select few quite wealthy, mostly through endorsements, it hasn't even come close to other professional sports at taking care of it's players financially. The new LIV tour I see as a serious threat to professional golf. More and more will sign on with them, field on both tours will be divided, weakening the PGA fields.
As far as the four majors, it's not known yet how they will respond . All have a long history with the PGA, and the talk seems to be they won't hang the PGA out to dry. The USGA is the only one to comment so far, and they are saying those that are already qualified for next weeks US Open will be allowed to play. The other 3 haven't commented. The LIV wants their tournaments to be qualifying events, but that will go against the PGA, who again, have a long history with the 4 major tournaments.
Right now, professional golf is becoming a giant mess, and the PGA, through some of their own mistakes, aren't in a good position to deal with it.

When Lanning took Oregon's coaching job, he had no QB he could rely on to lead his new team, so he sought out and took the best QB with experience he could find at the time. I have no doubt he will be a significant upgrade from last year. As Lanning didn't have time to find and develop a young QB when he took over, Nix affords him time to find and/or develop one.
While Nix has had a mixed career, he has a lot of talent. It will be up to the coaches to develop an offense and plays that minimize Nix's shortcomings, namely interceptions, and I think that they will. I'll be fine with him throwing a half dozen picks next year as long as he also throws 20 - 30 TDs.

Looking at some of the Miami forums, they think it's a given that Rashada will be going to commit to Miami based on Mario and their NIL deals. What a delussional fanbase they have. They think it's between them and Mississippi St, but they'll get him. I've seen or heard nothing favoring any of the schools mentioned.

Really though, how can game day coaching not improve? It was pretty pathetic previously, these coaches seem really motivated, and while young, they have a wealth of experience to draw from. I'm really excited to see what this team looks like and to see the enthusiasm of the players. Give Lanning a year of experience as head coach and I think we'll be more than fine.

I spend a lot of time in Texas as our kids are there, but it's pretty humid and there's no public land there. We live at the edge of Bend on some aceage, after moving from Eugene. The weather is dry, air is clean, except during fire season, 30 golf courses are close, and skiing is 25 miles away. Down side is it's growing like a weed and starting to get some of the problems of bigger cities. It's hard to beat the weather, except the 3 winter months, but I can deal with it easily over constant rain and constant dull skies. Besides, three months in Arizona to golf is a good alternative. And I agree, Durango and Santa Fe are pretty nice.

I feel a little bad for Brenner, if in fact the medical reports are accurate that he faces potential dialysis and a shortened life expectancy. Future medical bills could be extravagant, kidney disease and a shortened life seem worth more than $500,000 less a significant amount for attorneys.
That said, I also don't see the liability to be the NCAAs as much as U of Os, and especially the coach and strength coach. I also didn't see the lack of an NFL career as much of a factor. There obviously must be factors present I don't know about that explain how they arrived at the settlement they did.

If , in fact , his life expectancy due to kidney disease and failure resulting from the exercise regime is a real possibility, then he does deserve some compensation . But $120M, really? He would have been a fringe NFL player at best, and no fringe player makes that kind of NFL money. My perspective from what I've read, Taggert, the strength coach, and U of O should comensate him for future related medical expenses, shortened life expectancy, and some sum for what he's gone through, but not pie in the sky potential income loss.
The whole mess is the result of an overzealous, under trained stregth coach, with the okay by the head coach represented byour University. Mistakes happen, that's what insurance is for. This should never have gone as far as it has.

I assume both these players are scholarship players. I wonder if coach tactfully told them they may not be getting the playing time they want next season, as there are better options, and opening a couple scholarships would be beneficial to the program. Snee was a good punter, but maybe after the spring game, he may not be needed.

I was pretty impressed with Butterfield. Once he got over the nervousness of playing with fans present, which hasn't happened since high school, he looked like he knew what he was doing. He may not be mobile enough for the staff, but is smart, accurate, and reads progressions well. From what I saw, I'd be comfortable with him in game situations. From my perspective, while he may not have the physical talents of Thompson, he was far ahead at this point. Nix looked good most of the time, but made some bonehead errors as well, some errors a player with his experience shouldn't have made.
The spring game is a no win deal. As Lanning said, one side is going to look good on any given play, but then you're unhappy with the other side of the ball. I think Lanning made a concerted effort to emphasize an explosive offense in this game. He's no dummy. Lanning knows the fans were unhappy with the previous offense, he knows recruits want to see explosiveness and excitement, so a spring game like this makes most everyone watching happy.
I also was really impressed with Cota. He seemed to catch anything that was thrown his way, including three 50/50 passes. You could tell he was a very experienced, veteran player.

He apparently also went to the same high school as Matthew Stafford, and won his first tournament at the same time Stafford was in the Superbowl. Quite the performance from Scottie, and a more than impressive final round by McIlroy to shoot 64 on an extremely difficult course.

Following Miami's forums is simply hilarious. They're so excited to have their OC, and especially this one. Mario is giving the same talk he gave us. Balanced offense, fast pace, strong line play. What they don't realize is it doesn't matter who they get for OC, as Mario will go into his control mode, and the new OC will be forced to call promarily run plays between the tackles, followed by a dink pass on third down.
There will be no imaginative offense. During his tenure at Oregon, he had one of the best NFL QBs, and one of the best college OCs, but look at the product on the field he gave us . I guess it's great their fanbase is excited, but it will be short lived. Mario just can't help himself.

Just watched the whole video, Awesome.! I'm really excited about this staff, every one of them. To hear each one of them on a personal level talking about what got them here, their history, goals for Oregon, etc. has certainly put the last staff in the rear view mirror. Well worth the time to watch.

It made for 24 hours of good entertainment and speculation. It potentially could have benefited Oregon had it happened. I found this on the Caines sight, and have been very entertained by their whinings and grumblings of lost recruits and lack of coaches.

It also apprears Camar Wheaton , a 5 star RB Alabama recruit, has just entered the transfer portal. He's in rehab right now, but has had very good success. Don't know if he'd have any interest here, but sounds like a good back

I'll be curious to see if Lanning keeps working on him with several weeks available after Mondays game , where he can put in a full time effort. It will also be interesting to see if he stays that far from home through his college career.

Regardless of where he makes a verbal commitment, my guess is once Lanning is past the championship game, once he has more time, he will continue to push Moss if he wants him. I'm expecting a big flurry of recruiting effort for players that the new staff wants, whether they've verbally already committed or not.

It was a sad ending. I was really rooting for them. Their defense just seemed to run out of gas towards the end. But Utah made a game of it and were more than competitive.
