  1. That was just brutal. He made a pretty impressive effort. the last 3 holes, but just not quite enough.
  2. The Miami fans have certainly picked up on what we know about Mario. On their forums, they're super excited about his recruiting chops and the talent he brings, but they whine continuously about what a lousy game coach he is. He's blamed for losing several games from bonehead in game decisions. It's fun to read their posts, especially during the season.
  3. Being a Duck fan for so long has been awesome. Growing up, as my family were all fans, I remember trying to get a decent radio station in E. Wa. to listen to Bob Berry and Casanova play Washington, I remember Eric Olsen throwing the first touchdown pass at Autzen, Fouts playing lights out against Air Force and UCLA,, and all the great QBs we've had at Oregon. The college game is changing, but it's still great entertainment. It's been fun watching our Ducks come from a nobody in football to now one of the most prominent and successfull teams. Chip made us "cool" and put us on the map. Coaching has improved, recruiting as well. Now we're in the big leagues. It will be fun to see how it all plays out. I'm thankful DL is leading the way, and that he has all that young energy to push our program.
  4. If heappears as a " better " version of Vernon Adams, that sounds pretty good. Vernon was pretty impressive.
  5. I don't think it's a QB development problem that Oregon specifically has. Obviously, we want the best QB we can have, and if the talent, experience, and results are better with a transfer, then that's the route we go. This isn't specific to Oregon. Look at all the transfer QBs playing at blue blood and the more competetive schools, schools like LSU, OU,Ohio State ,Alabama,USC, etc... Surly not every one of these schools fails to develop their QB talent. I think it's the sign of the times that HS QBs are recruited to be developed, but with a few exceptions, just aren't able to compete for the starter job with a high quality experienced transfer that the wealthier schools can buy, us included.
  6. The QB musical chairs transfers will become very interesting. Already, there are a half dozen quality QB players out there, and likely more to come. Nix will be extremely difficult to replace, and I think there is not one transfer out there at this point to do it. But how do you replace a Heisman finalist? The rumors swirl about which of these QBs are going where and who's paying what NIL. Examples are Fuskies have CB' for Miss St. Will Rogers coming in to replace Penix, and Gabriel expecting a $2M NIL. It will be facinating to see who ends up where, and when. I guess we'll just have to trust Lanning to pick the best one for his needs.
  7. Maybe, but these two are known talents. We know both can play. We don't know that about any of our other QBs or recruits.
  8. Why not try for Gabriel and Moore. Gabriel is a high quality QB, but is a one and done. Moore is transferring to be better developed. What better way than to learn from someone like Gabriel and the staff for a year, then be THE man for the next two. He was thrown into the fire this year brfore he was ready. Win win for everyone.
  9. It will be fun to watch Bo one last time. He just simply wants to play. He's been pretty amazing in every game in that he thinks so quickly and releases the ball so fast that he is rarely hit or sacked. As long as he doesn't run the ball much, he's almost never on the ground. With a good insurance policy, and him using common sense, hopefully he'll be fine. Unlike a lot of players, Bo has such a coaches and leader mentality that I think he will always have a football future whether he's an NFL QB or not.
  10. Nothing against Liberty, I'm sure they're a fine team, but we drew the short straw on this one. I'm assuming it's because we're from the dying Pac 12, geographically closer to Glendale than other NY6 teams, and with east coast political clout, no one there wanted to play them. I would think there will be a serious bail out of seniors and draft eligible players. As high scoring as that team is, it will be a serious challenge for Oregon's 2nd and 3rd string players.
  11. Oregon 34-27 1 turnover 4 sacks 287 yards passing
  12. If I were Texas A&M, I wouldn't fire a coach with a $75M payout without having a definite game plan and some ideas about who I could get and what I was going to do.. I realize by starting now, they're ahead of the end of season firings, but I would still want to have an idea of who would be interested. It seems to me that there would already have been behind the scene conversations with potential candidates prior to the firing, but maybe that's not how it works. Maybe Lanning has already been contacted, or maybe he isn't even one of their top candidates. Everything we've heard is just media speculation based on potential candidates successes. Lanning is very young and still has a lifetime of coaching ahead of him. I just don't see him jumping ship with the way our program is progressing at this point in his career.
  13. I just can't see this happening, it just doesn't fit his character. He was pretty specific about why he picked Oregon, what the potential was here, and what his goals were. He has everything going for him. Great staff, recruiting extremely well, program heading in the direction he wants, and an awesome fan base. He's paid well, and I just don't see hie integrity allowing him to leave in less than two years with his goals here in reach. Unlike Slick Willie and Mari-no-O, he wouldn't be returning to his alma mater or even a place he's coached before. Why would he leave a relatively calm environment to go to a pressure cooker job at a school that is a lateral move at best. He's paid well, and if needed, would be paid even more. Again, this potential move just doesn't fit his character to me. He just seems more honorable than that, and I don't see him leaving 25 new recruits in the wind. I think they should rip off the Fuskies coach. That would be a meltdown to see.
  14. Lanning seems very focused and goal oriented, namely win a national championship. He's investing a lot in that goal here, and I don't see him quitting or jumping ship until he's reached it. Secondly, he has a young family. The kids seem to be doing well with the school system, and his wife seems happy in Eugene. If that's the case, I see him staying here until his kids are out of school. He just doesn't seem like a money chaser, he's running an up and coming program with national appeal, there's a new challenge with the Big 10, he's very well paid, and he's inching closer to that national championship. Why would he leave?
  15. Postgame Quotes: Utah vs. Oregon - University of Utah Athletics UTAHUTES.COM UTAH QUOTES Post game thoughts from SLC
  16. Lanning always says how important the last 2 minutes of the first half and first 2 minutes of the econd half are. We'll see how the Ducks handle it. So far, not particularly great. Whittingham generally makes great second half adjustments, and really motivates his team. Utah is far from done, especially if Oregon can't get it's scoring machine going again.
  17. Oregon 24-20 0 turnovers 3 sacks 221 yards passing I hope I'm not just being a homer here. I think Utah, with the home field, loud crowd, cool weather and high altitude, will be a really tough game. Like the OSU game, I think you can throw away the records and stats, and which team shows up with the serious desire to win will prevail.
  18. Yes, he should have made the kick, but it's a lot of pressure, and a 42 yd kick isn't a chip shot. Lanning went on 4th down twice instead of a field goal, and again with under two minutes. If just one of the three were successful ,we'd be having a different conversation. Don't know why he didn't punt at the end of the game, other than they couldn't stop UW, and they wanted to be the offense controlling the end of the game.
  19. The big screen TV will be warmed up, ready to go, my cushy recliner as well. The garage beer frig is on extra cold, and a large assortment of central Oregon craft IPAs are chilling and waiting. Didn't invite friends over,as I'll just need to be left alone so I can concentrate on the game ( and the beer). It's a great football weekend, starting with last nights game, and there are killer Pac 12 games through the day. If I can just get through our game, the rest of the games will be very relaxing.
  20. I'm with you, if they're good enough, take the sure thing. My concern for next year, as I'm sure is most fans, is who will we have for a quaterback. It seems like all the good teams have great quarterback play anymore. Will either present backups be good enough, will the two new recruits be the answer, or will Lanning again dip into the transfer portal for a proven high end player like he did with Nix.? We have all the pieces for next year, except the uncertainty of the most important position, the QB. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the right person was in the portal, Lanning would grab him.
  21. Dan Lanning celebrates with Oregon fans after beating Stanford SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM Dan Lanning ran across the field after Oregon beat Stanford so he could celebrate with Ducks fans who made the trip. I thought this was so cool after the Stanford game. After the coaches handshake and greeting Stanford's players, DL ran over to the Oregon fan section and was shown on tv high fiving and interacting with the Oregon fans that had made the trip. Not sure I've ever seen that before. He certainly knows PR.
  22. Still, there is income coming into the Pac12 this year while all 12 teams are still members. Not all the assets are deferred past the time these teams leave. While I see the reasons these 10 schools shouldn't be allowed to vote regarding the future of the Pac 12, and use of deferred assets and income, it still seems wrong to withhold present income while all 12 teams are still members.
  23. The 10 teams may not have voting rights, but shouldn't they still get Pac 12 incentives, pac 12 network revenues, basketball tourney receipts, etc. up until the time they actually give up their membership? They shouldn't be allowed to make determinations of Pac 12 future, or get future earnings, but I would think they should get their income share until they leave.
  24. If the Big does ultimately swoop in and grab Stanford and Cal, it would obviously be a big advantage for Oregon. Not just because there would be a western pod of teams so a little less travel, but also because we would likely play them on a regular basis, and Cal, Stanford, UCLA, and maybe even UW are likely weaker teams than many of the Big teams. That might be a real advantage, especially since UO has a history with the other western teams.
  25. If, in fact, Stanford is willing to join the ACC for nothing, would the Big 10 step up and offer them , maybe with Cal, at a very reduced rate? Is the Big just sitting back, waiting for the fallout, ready to swoop in to pick up the pieces for nothing? Adding the SF viewers for pittance makes pretty good sense to me.
