Just my observation, but RBs of the past looked for space to keep running.

Recent RBs appear to look for blockers to run into.

Hoping a return to the past is coming.

One of the things I like to see in highlight films is whether or not a running back prospect gets caught from behind (same for WR’s).  I can think of at least three RB’s from the past who pass that test.  Droughns, Stewart and LaMike.  One could argue the same for Mo Morris, Barner and Jeremiah Johnson.  Top end speed is not the end-all but it can be a difference maker.

It's from 2017 when he was in the mix to get hired by CAL, some article  hightlights:

    Wherever Lupoi goes, controversy follows.

    So does talent.

I’ve followed Lupoi through all of the aforementioned drama.  If I remember correctly he also was the point man for UW in the recruitment of Eric Armstead, a close battle won by Chip after having an in home with the Armsteads.  I will chalk up early miscues to youth and inexperience on his part.  His tenure with Bama, though brief, has been clean.  Given he passed the smell test with coach Saban, I’d chalk this up as a smart hire and another win for Lanning.

  3. I’m not sure what it is about 8-4 that the Bruins admin doesn’t get.  Sans a miracle finish by Fresno the record would be 9-3 with two of the losses from the top two teams in the league.  The Bruins have momentum going into the offseason evidenced by a recruiting class currently ranked fourth in the league.  Chip is a year away from a roster built with his players.  My bet is at minimum he’s granted a 2 year extension at some point this month.  Apart from such his hands would be tied and don’t be surprised if he decides to make the exit.

Was at Hec Edmundson pavilion with my wife for the 2019 Oregon UW men’s basketball game, aka Payton Pritchard’s “I own this house” closing argument.  As halftime approached, the crowd began thumping their tails uncontrollably and peeing in their seats in anticipation of the introduction of their new head football coach Jimmy Lake.

There is nothing new or unusual about using a campus sports event to unveil a new coach, and new coaches normally use the moment to simply thank the administration and crowd for their support and promise the kind of effort that will bring victories and championships to the school — nothing more. Best to leave them with a solid first impression that evokes class and the anticipation of better things to come.

Not Jimmy. He seized the moment like a carnival barker conning a crowd of fools into buying tickets to see a two-headed tattooed lady.  His ‘I own this place’ opening gambit was followed by an awkward TV game show host-like climb into the stands to ‘mix’ with his frothing followers that lasted well into the start of the 2nd half.

My wife looked at me and I at her in blank amazement at this remarkable display of cluelessness.

“I wanna have a huge spring game crowd come this April  (just like Oregon)”.

  5. It’s called limited minutes at the center position.  Doubtful there is any other college team that has four seven footers. With another on the way next year (who could we’ll be best of the bunch) I expect one or two of our current centers to opt for the portal or pros next year.

  6. It’s been so long I’ve forgotten what an explosion play is.

Glad he squelched the William Jewel College rumor… puts me at rest.  Folks, it’s pointless to ask in effect would he ever leave for another job.  I hope Lanning’s phone is ringing off the hook this time next year and every year he’s at the UO.  What does that tell you?  Guarantee you he will leave at some point.  If not for another school, could well be the pros.  In the meantime I’m going to enjoy a coach who I consider to be a rising star and one who will bring an excitement to UO football we haven’t seen since the Chip Kelly era.

I respectfully disagree with the letter. The Oregon football culture does not need to be re-established or re-created. It needs to be MODERNIZED to today's competitive reality. We are NOT top-echelon, just a BIG DUCK sitting in a little west-coast pond. But we do have the POTENTIAL in every way EXCEPT COACHING to reach that stratospheric level. Going to the next-gen of coaches such as Lanning is a promising sign.

Having played in two of the last ten national championships isn’t top echelon?

I don't worry about these young coaches at all.  They're dealing with 18-21 year old kids, they relate well.  These coaches wouldn't be where they are with top notch programs without having a lot of knowledge.  Talking with Belotti would be a benefit to get lay of the land, but these young guys know what they're doing.  I think they'll relate well to the players and will do a good job of motivating them.  I'm excited, much more so than if they'd taken Wilcox.  Sounds like Lanning is an overacheiver.

Overachiever I’m sure, definitely a motivator.  Based on the clips I’ve seen of Lanning’s sideline demeanor, we’ll see a 180 from Cristobal who to me at times looked insecure.  Lanning will be fired up, passionate, getting face to face with players in a good way.  I recall from a radio interview with a Georgia media source, kids love playing for him and assistants will enjoy working with him.

  9. Looking forward to today’s intro with the team.  Got a feeling there will be a ton of energy and enthusiasm in the room.

How cool would it be to have Rich Brooks on hand who in 1977 mirrored the experience of Lanning when he took over the program also at age 35.  And who was his first opponent?  Georgia at Athens.  A stellar showing for the Ducks who lost by a score of 27-16 when many were expecting an epic blowout.

It is interesting to see the youth movement hitting Oregon squarely between the eyes. Maybe I am just getting older, but these guys look like they just graduated from college.

As long as they can coach, recruit, manage athletes and our program, I am ok with it!

This isn’t the first time the UO went with the youth movement.  Did so back ‘77 with another 35 yr old.  Last name was Brooks.
