So, if Gunfightershave "the Magnicent Seven", what identity do we hope for with Lanning's staff?
Can we at least get a cameo appearance by Chuck Norris in Corso's DUCK HEAD?

And that's the ball game!
Defense wins championships?

Such passionate booing...

I have to admit, some of the throws on this drive are stunning.

Dang.
. That kicker makes me miss George Blanda and Ray Guy... I know they were raiders, but that was their bread and butter

Are those really Gonzo's quads?
If so, he's probably a back pedaling freak!

Great trip down memory lane, WK. I was at U of O during the Russ Francis years. The guy was truly an athletic freak--in a good way. Surprised you didn't mention the thing that always come to my mind when Francis' name comes up: when Howard Cosell dubbed him "All World" on a Monday Night Football telecast. As was his wont, Cosell beat that moniker like a drum, and it stuck.
Oh, yeah. Francis' dad was Gentleman Ed Francis, a pro wrestling legend.
Most of what I posted was while we were classmates in HS. The first day, he walked in with his older brother (Bill?), who looked enough like him, most of the school thought they were twins.
His brother was supposed to wrestle for the DUCKS, but had participated in a pro-am tag team match with Gentleman Ed prior to enrolling at Oregon. The NCAA declared him ineligible due to that, and he never got it reversed.
Three or four Francis brothers lived in a small house on Rattlesnake Road.
Their mother was Poly, FWIW.

Russ Francis was a physical freak... 6'6"/240 as a hs senior. Walked into Pleasant Hill HS following his senior year at Kailua HS, in Hawaii. He was a wrestler, in Hawaii, but played basketball
in his only year at PHHS, averaging something like 18 ppg.
In the spring of 1971, he went out for track, another new sport... Dude did a little of everything... shot put, discus, sprints (ran a hand timed 100 yard dash in 9.5 on a dirt track in Philomath). He tried long jump in practice a couple times. The only measurement I remember was over 21'.
Oh, yeah... Russ had never seen a javelin prior to that year.
We had all seen RF chuck both a football and a baseball a ridiculous distance by this point.
The coach had been a javelin thrower in college, and talked him into trying it.
The first time Francis touched the spear, one of the guys challenged him to throw it across the parking lot, on the way to the field.
It didn't make it far, snapping the tip off in the parking lot, maybe 60' away.
Within a little over a month, Francis broke the national HS record in the discipline, with a throw of 259' 9", a record that stood for something like 17 years.
Sheesh!

Agree in the past it was like watching a rally car race. There were a lot of acceleration and cornering, fun to watch. Recently it was more like a demolition derby.
To each his own, but I prefer the skill seen in a performance vehicle. Some might even say our previous coach just wanted a monster truck competition.
Was that supposed to be a power dive play of some sort?

Is that the result of one of KT's patented qb hits?

While Kiffen's mahi-mahi is mice, it's not overly impressive, size wise, since he's holding it out at arms length, to exaggerate the length.
Gotta give Freeze the prize here, as that's a dandy Florida strain large mouth he's holding close to his body, in order to include the boy (i assume its his son) in the picture.
Nice job with the smoke and mirrors by Kiff, though... Hope he can disguise a D as well or better!

I enjoy the fact that following the the departure of OREGON's epic recruiting
staff, Coach Lanning has not only created what, at least on paper, appears to be a significant upgrade, but has already managed to find a way to use U Duh as a farm team, thus adding to OREGON's recruiting footprint... EPIC!

Taki, Taki, Taki... it also describes their venue, at the Mistake by the Lake.

Heck, Shaq did an interview that talked a out his move to LA, and how unsophisticated and, frankly, naive he was financially.
No idea about the California tax burden, or cost of living.
He claims to have received a check for $10,000,000+, but due to his contract being north of $20,000,000, went out and blew $9,000,000 IN ONE DAY!
He literally bought 3 $300,000 Rolls Royces, among other things.
Does anyone think the average college football player is much more sophisticated than that?

The whole time Belloti and Chip were building an offensive juggernaut, yet the D couldn't consistently get a 3 and out, or would "Bend, then Break," I kept wondering why the Ducks couldn't have both?
What a revolutionary concept!

I'm hoping TT flourishes in this new regime.
In perusing the resumes of the Lanning Brigade, I noticed something interesting in the background... Multiple coaches in this group have spent at least part of their career working with quarterbacks.
Could it be that we have an opportunity to have individual mentors for different quarterback skillsets?
Maybe I'm just channeling my inner mad conspiracy theorist...

I remember the announcer (Wendy Ray, maybe?) discussing the facilities and the slack jawed look on the teams faces, as the walked past (IIRC) the "massive" weight room ( I think it was supposed to be 25,000 square feet, or something like that) that dwarfed the entire Duck sports office complex/training facility of the time.
My, how times have changed!

My FishDuck Friends....I know it is a bit corny, but it just felt right when it came to me the other night. I have communicated with so many of you, and just love the good people in this Oregon Sports fan community. I was reading the superb posts, and enjoying the absence of tension, of aggression you get at all the other sites, and then it hit me, as we are....
"The Forum with Decorum!"
In a "classless society", it works, for me.
This coming from a guy who responded to Kenny Wheaton's iconic leap into history by jumping (I was a bit more spry in '94) up on the wall in front of the north side concession stands, behind a mightily chagrined contingent of blubber-gasted migrant mala-mutt fans and letting loose a Tarzan yell.
I was egged on by a large group of teenage mutant ninja duckleheads... Whom I was supposedly chaperoning.
Every young Duck fan deserves a strong, trusted, mentor!

Since Locklyn has been following Gary Campbell, it would be cool if the two could establish a mentor relationship... Seems as if that would be a good move for the new regime.

BREAKING: Travis Dye Enters Transfer Portal
in Our Beloved Ducks
Posted
"Dear coach... promise me I'm your guy. Or else?"
This is getting silly, in a way. Having to spend valuable recruiting time on proven players who are jumping into the portal?
Lanning has done a great job with it so far. But it's beginning to look like some of these guys may be playing "chicken" with the coaches.
Duck fans love the heart, grit, and determination the DYE bros have brought to this team. Nobody has worked harder.
SMH...
