  1. Ritchey's days of reign as AD were at the tipping point between the collegial days where P.E., Intramural sports, and major sports intersected. The athletes were present in classes and campus activities. and time and training demands not nealy as demanding as they are today.

AD Ritchey served during the war protest period of the late '60's into the 1970's as football came under scrutiny and attack by students and The Daily Emerald.

I have great respect for Norv Rithchey and the contributions and career he devoted to the University of Oregon.

    From SI:

"The way he conducts himself on the field is very easygoing, reassuring but also very assertive at the same point," offensive lineman Chris Lindstrom said. "He's incredible to play for and play with. You just have a love for him because you love the person and the player he is, you have an appreciation for the way he goes about attacking work."

  3. I was reviewing the team statistics yesterday at www.Pac-12.com, when It was noted that passing defense ranked lowest for Oregon in the comparative statistical categories.

There was only a small difference in passing yards allowed, and average yards per completion, but it stood out becsuse Oregon was either in the first or second position in most of the other catagories.

With the Duck's prolific offense they can overcome points allowed by outscoring the opponent.

This is the time of the season when the going gets tough. I hope that the Ducks defense, especially the passing defense, steps up for break ups, tight coverage, interceptions, and prevents chunk yardage gains.

I am not saying MSU will dig deep, but they could should they so choose. They anteed up big for Tucker, $95M fully guaranteed.

Mat Ishbia gave $32M for a basketball facility.

Mat Ishbia, 41, is CEO of Pontiac-based United Wholesale Mortgage with over 8,000 employees. The company was previously known as United Shore Financial Services.

He is already a billionaire on paper and ranked 188th place on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which puts his net worth at just under $12 billion.

Are Lanning, Dilly and staff going hard to keep Dante? YES.

  6. From SpartanTailgate.COM

As for where Michigan State plans to go from here, sources tell me that several targets will emerge and the staff won't limit themselves. With that said, I'm hearing that MSU will begin by going to great lengths to attempt to flip 2023 five-star QB Dante Moore, a Detroit (MI) King product who is currently committed to Oregon. Obviously, this won't be an easy task and expectations should be tempered.

Not only are there justifiably enticing incentives available to Moore if he were to enroll at Oregon, but the Ducks have also had a lot of success during the 2022 season. On the other hand, sources emphasized that MSU won't go down without exhausting every resource here.

This offense has been rolling. It may not have the eye-catching flash of the Kelly/Helfrich years. But, it is definitely more efficient and sustainable.

I agree that accepting the ball at the 25 is likely the safest and smartest move. But, then I remember D'Anthony starting off the Kansas State game in jaw dropping manner. Nothing says "Oregon Football" (to me) like a 100 yard dash to start the game more than that play! It may not be smart... but, I like me some special teams excitement.

I want Georgia to repeat as National Champs and I believe they will. My opinion... I've said this before and I'll keep saying it. I would rather finish the year 13-1 with a blowout win in the Rose Bowl (likely final ranking #4). Than 12-2 with a loss (and it would be a loss) in the play offs (final ranking of 5-6). Go into the off season with a win and some momentum. This young team will peak in Dan Lanning's second (or third) year. Great things to come for our Ducks either way.

Top recruits. Better get on the Dan Van. The Big O is coming.

    • Haha 1
  8. The Ducks probably have not peaked yet. They did not play their best against Cal.

I'm hoping for some great games ahead. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

The team is very young and they must face the late season demands of November and December football. I am hoping that Nix's veteran leadership paired with DJ, Forsythe, and the O-Line will be enough to pull the younger guys along.

I wonder about the effects of  "the grind" on the young coaching staff?

  9. Dilly was given an opportunity and mission when he joined Coach Lanning. I imagine he feels a responsibility and obligation to stay with Lanning and UO longer.

The coaching staff agreed to chase a national championship at Oregon. That is not a one year task. As a professional he is likely to continue the task for several more years then evaluate his options.

Coach Dillingham has two top (4☆/5☆) QB's in the locker room under his tutalege with a 5☆, possibly #1 nationally), on the way to Oregon. He will want to develop those players and coach them.

Oregon football has possibly the best tools, facilities, and support resources in the country. That includes the NIL program, sports performance training, off field anslysts, etc.

Kenny Dilligham will be courted and offered other positions. I will be very surprised if he leaves or strongly considers alternatives through the next two or more seasons.

Similarly, it will surprise me if Oregon does not sweeten the compensation package for Coach Dillingham.

Respect, professional development, relationships, communication, collaboration, compensation, and lifestyle are all related to job  satisfaction. Those aspects bolster retention if managed well.

    Go Ducks.

    Lanning and Coach_Pac12 Video.jpg

I like the photo of Lanning and Klemm together. I do not recall seeing it before. Thanks.

  11. The Ducks are averaging 42 points and more than 512 yards per game. Across six games the team has rushed for 241 YPG and passed for 271 YPG. The offense has been impressive and is trending better. Kenny Dillingham has been credited with revamping the scheme and driving excellence.

There is enough of a track record after six games to spread credit further.

Adrian Klemm, Associate Head Coach/Offensive Line/Run Game Coordinator has the Ducks ranked 10th in the FBS in Rushing. The offensive line has given up only a single sack in 233 rushing attempts. Give a shout out to Coach Klemm.

Two other names do not often surface. Junior Adams, Co-Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers, and Demetrice Martin, Cornerbacks/Passing Game Coordinator. Whereas I do not know in detail how the staff interacts and coordinates, by title and responsibility it appears that Dillingham, Klemm, Adams, and Martin are deserving of credit for the flourishing offense and its productivity compared with recent years.

If these coaches can accomplish so much, after being hired late and hitting the ground running, then it is tantalizing to think of what the offense can do in year two with sufficient time to reflect, adjust, and teach.

Congratulations and thanks to our new coaches. As a fan I appreciate them.

  12. Some of these HC's are in their first year with the program, but they are experienced head coaches.

On the other hand, Dan Lanning is fresh out of the crib as a first time first year head coach. I don't dispute the subjective "B+" given, but Lanning has accomplished so much on and off the field.

Give Lanning an off-season to reboot, another crack at the Transfer Portal, spring season workouts (teaching), and another recruiting cycle, then watch out!

Let's first finish strong this season.

Lanning and his Ducks are coming on.

Fantastic analysis above, and another reason why I need my "Dazed" fix on a regular basis.

I no longer place relevance on that above stat, as last year Oregon had 54 of the blue-chippers to Fresno State's one, but we still almost lost to them last year.  Ditto with Washington State this year, and ditto with Bellotti/Chip teams of the past.

  14. NIL is not the causal factor.

Multiple issues come into play including the Supreme Court decision that spawned NIL.

Media values and interests centered on two power conferences, and the related values and payouts coupled with the determination of the players right to be compensated caused opportunities that led to the shift.

The financial aspirations of ESPN and FOX networks in cahoots with the Commisioners of the SEC and B1G, and their cronies might have been the greatest impetus.

Many factors are at play to reshuffle college football and enrich the robber barons.

  15. Well done Byron.I am in the camp that reasons the SEC and B1G will remain the power conferences, so joining the B1G is the safest option to cosummate now.

Rebuilding the former Pac12 into a 20-24 team Western Conference by adding teams with the highest media ratings, including the strongest candidates from SoCal and Texas, along with robbing the Big12 and Mountain West, is an option that is good, but would be too long in the making.

  17. There is underlying turmoil in college football. Networks are wielding more power than ever before over the CFB universe.

The NCAA has faded into yesterday. The SEC and B1G wield more power than ever before. A Premier League, not by that name, is looming. Those left outside of the Top-50 will be spread among the lower divisions, while the top dogs pad their Treasuries with more riches than before.

A new administration and regulator, along with new rules, will emerge. That is how the future is shaping up.

In the present, are the early firings of coaches related to the coming changes to college football? Are the AD's, Presidents, Trustees, and donors trying to right their ships before the pending storms?

Or, is the turnover of coaches we are witnessing simply part of the "just win, baby" mantra of CFB?

Now that we're about 1/3 of the way through the season, thought I'd post an update of how the Lanning/Dillingham offense is doing compared to other coaches/years.

For now, the offense seems middle of the road (caveat, the GA game is weighing heavily on these stats) with the exception of the passing game. Ducks are producing in the passing game the likes we've not seen since Helfrich/Mariota teamed up in 2013/2014.

And, it will get better, possibly this year, but the next two years. These Ducks are very young, and KD's system still new to them.

So... Out of boredom right now I'm watching Boise State v San Diego State. It's at Boise State and they have that obnoxious blue field.

If Boise State were to be invited to the pac-12 should they be forced to ditch that field? It is certainly a psychological barrier with it being a weird color.

But there is something dare I say amateurish of having a odd colored field. But then again our field is our team color so that's all good with me.

I say if they join ban the blue field!

I'm curious about how you feel about the floor at The MATT? Reply?
