  1. 4-0 Ducks after two innings, as Dominic Hellman blasted a solo homer on a hanging breaking ball! A Dom-Bomb...
  2. Game summary coming to the bottom of the thread later... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3-0 Ducks after one inning. So comforting to have veteran Ian Umlandt, an Oregon lad, on the hill. Mason Neville hit a home run as lead-off hitter! Did it at full-count, opposite field to boot. Jacob Walsh walks, and then Anson Aroz hits a difficult fielding double that scores Walsh. Aroz then scores when Maddox Molony hits a nice single. Off to a good start!
  3. If they hire him, then they deserve what they get. There is so much online about him, that this should be an easy decision, as I don't know how he could have done worse for the conference than what he did. "I fooled those saps, and now it is your turn."
  4. Up to No. 10 in D1Baseball rankings, the only B1G team ranked...Our Beloved Ducks have more surprises than I want to list here. Two of them were B1G Freshman of the Week last week, Burke-Lee Mabeus, and now B1G Player of the Week in Dominic Hellman. Mabeus is one of the heralded freshmen who are already performing, while Hellman is a great development story. I wrote him off, just as I did Collin Clarke, our Saturday night starter, but both have improved beyond what anyone anticipated. While the numbers are inflated a bit, we do have eight players batting over .300 at the moment! And that does not include Chase Meggers, one of last year's best still not back from injury. Ditto for Parker Stinson, a transfer that Coach Waz said was the best hitter in fall camp. Burke-Lee Mabeus A new OBD member, sports fan, noted that our Friday night starting pitcher and first relief pitcher have fallen off last year's results. I felt that two games was too soon to make an assessment, but both came up short of their best this last weekend as well. Grinsell, I sense, will recover. Featherston? I don't know...so that was a great observation by our new member. But boy...so many great pitching surprises and faces. We have a JC guy, Santiago Garcia, who had some scoreless innings, and while I was chortling about our four surprising freshman pitchers....Waz trots out another one, Tanner Bradley, who looked good. We DO have a lot of arms to turn to! We have a game at 4:00 PM PST Tuesday night at PK Park against Utah Tech on B1G+, and I suspect that the "Pride of Sherwood," Ian Umlandt, will be the starter. Fine surprises, and we DO have a shot at Omaha!

  5. Hellman Earns Big Ten Honor EUGENE, Ore. – Coming off a series sweep of Columbia, Oregon designated hitter Dominic Hellman has been named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week. Hellman (Mill Creek, Wash.) started all four games at DH leading Oregon to convincing wins that saw Oregon outscore the Lions 70-15 in the four-game series. Hellman slashed .500/.583/1.056 with a 1.639 OPS. He slugged three home runs, including a pair of grand slams in the series opener, while driving in a team-high 13 runs with nine runs scored and a double. In a 20-11 win in the first game of the series, Hellman went 3-for-5 with two grand slams, eight RBI, three runs scored, while also doubling and reaching on a hit-by-pitch. With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the second, launched his first grand slam of the day to give the Ducks a 7-3 lead. After reaching base on a HBP and scoring in the fourth and doubling in the fifth, Hellman broke open a four-run game in the bottom of the seventh with his second grand slam to secure the win. The Ducks’ DH had another big game in Oregon 35-1 win in the second game of the series. He reached base five times (3-for-5, 2 HBP), while driving in four more runs and scoring four times. After getting hit by pitches in his first two at-bats and coming around to score, Hellman picked up his first RBI with a ground out in the third inning. He added singles in the fourth and fifth innings, a sacrifice fly in the sixth and then a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth. In game two of Saturday’s doubleheader and game three of the series, Hellman went 1-for-5 in Oregon’s 8-3 win. He slugged his third home run of the series in the eighth inning to wrap up the Ducks’ win. In the series finale on Sunday, Hellman reached base four times (2-for-3, 2 BB) and scored once. He singled in his first two at-bats, before walking and scoring in his final two at-bats. The first run scored pushed Oregon’s lead to 3-0 in the seventh, while his second gave the Ducks a 7-0 lead. Hellman is the first Oregon baseball player ever to win the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week award and the second to win a conference award, joining Burke-Lee Mabeus who was the league’s freshman of the week last week. All-Time Big Ten Conference Players of the Week Burke-Lee Mabeus (3/3/25) Freshman of the Week All-Time Pac-12 Conference Players of the Week Jacob Walsh (3/11/24; 4/3/23) Drew Cowley (5/1/23) Gabe Matthews (4/13/21) Kenyon Yovan (3/9/21) Spencer Steer (4/15/19) Scott Heineman (5/25/15; 4/15/13) Shaun Chase (5/5/14) Mitchell Tolman (4/14/14; 5/6/13) Ryon Healy (4/29/13; 2/19/13) Aaron Payne (5/7/12; 4/29/12) Brett Thomas (4/9/12) Danny Pulfer (5/16/11) Aaron Jones (3/21/11) Eddie Rodriguez (5/17/10; 3/8/10)

  6. My Duck-Buddies, If you ever thought of a road-trip with fellow Oregon fans...this is the one. The prices are better than I thought, and we can all meet and laugh together at a Tailgate that has been scheduled before the Penn State-Oregon game! It will be so much fun getting acquainted, and putting names (handles) to faces. Consider the time....not early September when it is too hot, not in November when it is too cold, but September 27th...JUST RIGHT! (Remember that you do NOT have to be an OBD member. Are you a reader? Cool. You are WELCOME to join us!) The Big Deal? Lodging can cost a fortune, but NJDuck set up a fantastic block of rooms reserved at $183.00 a night for the two nights of Friday and Saturday at the Hampton Inn of Du Bois, Pennsylvania. This is SO much less than the crazy rates we were seeing, and we still have rooms available before we lock in the reservation. I checked rental car prices, and a mid-size for the two days is $684.00 for the two days...but we can beat that price with the shuttle buses we have arranged. We can group together from Pittsburg International to the Hampton Inn, and back on Sunday morning in our arranged shuttle-bus. For the game...we have a shuttle picking us up in the morning and bringing us back that night to the Hampton Inn. And the shuttle takes us to within 200 yards of the stadium...an easy walk to football, but first to the tailgate we are all invited to! So our total costs of the shuttles look to be under $600.00 total for all three trips, and you don't have to drive the winding, mountainous territory for two hours to the Hampton Inn and back. This has turned out MUCH better than I could have anticipated, thanks to Joe, NJDuck, who put enormous time into the research and arrangements. Want to come? It is not too late, but it will be within days. Call me at 541-915-4541 or email charles@fishduck.com to reserve your room. (Each room has two queen sized beds, so bring a friend!) Once I hear from you on that--you get your flight arrangements and football tickets purchased on your own. Join us for this BUCKET-LIST event with Our Beloved Ducks members!

  7. Do you think the B1G resentment of Oregon will grow? Oregon says...
  8. Well, some Oregon praise from John Canzano! He reports that thus far in the academic year, (we are not halfway yet) that Oregon leads the league with the most B1G championships thus far. We won Football, Womens Cross-Country, and now Indoor Womens and Indoor Mens Track. He stated that no other program among the other 17 schools in the league are even close. (Talking to YOU, Ohio State and Michigan!)
  9. SIDEARM Integrations GODUCKS.COM Freshman Will Sanford and three relievers combined to blank Columbia on two hits Sunday.
  10. Unknown. USC is 9-2 and have beaten a good UC Irvine team, and No. 14 Vanderbilt, but UCLA is 9-3 with a win over the Trojans and is also a candidate. I figured USC would end up being ranked, so this is a big series for us. (Ducks are 10-2) Gotta have some hot bats...
  11. 7-0 Ducks, after eight, and then nine innings as the Ducks got to Lion relievers, and Oregon's held steadfast!
  12. 3-0 Ducks! Garcia put them down 1-2-3, and Oregon got to the Lion reliever to score two more!
  13. 1-0 Ducks, still, after six innings. The Columbia pitcher has been superb, but so has Oregon freshman pitcher Will Sanford holding the Lions scoreless for six. Can Oregon’s reliever Santiago Garcia keep it going in the seventh?
  14. Game summary at the bottom of the thread! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1-0 Oregon, after two innings. Will Sanford has a nice start going for the Ducks on the hill, and I have to admit that the Columbia pitcher is the best we have seen thus far.
  15. Geez, we start out way down...15-4 at one point, and fight back to a five point lead at halftime. This was a tough gritty game for most of it, and I noted that with 13:30 left in the second half...we only had a four point lead. With about nine minutes left it was only five. Then the Ducks exploded, and USC was clearly tired and worn down a bit. My gosh the threes were daggers..
  16. I said this before about the football pundits last summer after watching their predictions of the impact of Oregon in the B1G....the time zone thing is real. They have not watched us, don't know us, and I declared that, "this fall will be the surprise B1G tour by Oregon." Looks like that is happening in the other sports as well...
  17. No matter, because we have enough within our schedule, and we have established a reputation, and will keep winning, and thus I believe we will be fine. Not to mention, that bringing USC, and UCLA to the conference automatically elevates the B1G in baseball a bit.
  18. You are right, as many have improved, such as Dominic Hellman below who has three homers, two of which were GRAND SLAMS. Waz has emphasized getting stronger and bigger like Hellman... Geez I love the Green Pinstripe...
  19. March Came in Like a Lion for the Oregon Baseball Team EUGENE, Ore. — The No. 11 Oregon Ducks put together a pair of dominating efforts against Columbia in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday at PK Park, winning game one 35-1 and game two 8-3. The Ducks scored a school-record 35 runs in the opener, besting the program’s previous most runs scored of 23 set against Portland on May 6, 1974, and matched against St. John’s on Feb. 25, 2022. Oregon (9-2) got dominant pitching in the two games allowing just one run in the first 15 innings before the Lions (1-5) scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning of game two. Game 1: Oregon 35, Columbia 1 Oregon scored multiple runs in seven of the eight innings where they batted, including a nine-run inning, an eight-run frame and a six-run innings. Oregon collected 25 hits in the game, including nine extra-base hits (4 HR, 5 2B). Eight Ducks finished with multiple hits in the game while 12 different players and at least one base knock. Seven Ducks had multiple-RBI in game one with a total of 10 players driving in at least one run. Eleven different Ducks scored multiple runs 12 scoring overall. Ryan Cooney went 4-for-4 with a home run, six RBI, five runs scored, a double and a base on balls. Maddox Molony slugged a pair of home runs and had a double, while going 3-for-4 with six RBI and three runs scored. Dominic Hellman, who hit two grand slams yesterday, went 3-for-4 with four RBI and four runs scored. How it Happened: Oregon jumped out early scoring a pair of runs in the first inning. Mason Neville led off with a double into the right-center field gap and came around to score on a Jacob Walsh single. After an Anson Aroz walk loaded the bases, Molony drove in Hellman with a sacrifice fly. Anson Aroz is SAFE! Columbia cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the second, but Oregon answered with four more runs in its half of the inning. Cooney led off the inning with a single, before moving to third on a pair of hit-by-pitches. Walsh picked up his second RBI of the day with a bases-loaded walk with Aroz also drawing a walk to scored Carter Garate for a 4-1 Oregon lead. Freshman Burke-Lee Mabeus continued his stellar early season play. The Ducks’ catcher delivered a two-out, two-run single scoring Hellman and Walsh for a 6-1 lead. The Ducks broke it open in the third scoring nine runs while sending 12 batters to the plate. Cooney did most of the damage belting a three-run home run to cap the inning, but Aroz, Molony, Mabeus and Jeffery Heard had consecutive hits that drove in runs. Oregon tacked on three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to push the lead to 21-1. Molony had homers in both innings, a two-run shot in the fourth and a three-run blast in the fifth. Oregon put eight runs on the board in the sixth inning to make it a 29-1 lead. Walsh hit his 44th career homer, a three-run bomb, in the inning while Cooney had a two run double followed by a Carter Garate run-scoring two bagger. Oregon capped its game one scoring with a six-run eighth inning. Garate had a two-run double, while Hellman added a two-RBI single. Game 2: Oregon 8, Columbia 3 Oregon got a quality start from Collin Clarke and the Ducks hit four more home runs in the nightcap to sweep the doubleheader. Clarke threw six scoreless inning before finally giving up three runs in the seventh inning, but by then Oregon already led 7-0. Freshman catcher Coen Niclai hit is first career home run while Neville, Helman and Aroz all added to their home run totals. Alaskan Freshman Coen Niclai after his first collegiate homer How it Happened: Oregon jumped out early with a three-run second inning. Molony singled and came around to score on Niclai’s two-run home run over the center-field wall. Garate picked up a RBI with a single later in the inning. Aroz made it a 4-0 game in the third with a solo home run, his fifth of the season. The Ducks manufactured a run in the fifth. Aroz reached on a hit-by-pitch, moved to second when Molony walked, and then executed a double steal with Molony to get to third. Niclai then drove in Aroz with a ground out to the shortstop. Oregon pushed the lead to seven with a pair of sixth-inning runs. Neville did the honors slugging a two-run home run onto the roof of the hitting facility beyond the right-field wall. Hellman added his third home run of the series in the eighth inning, a titanic shot over the scoreboard in left field. Doubleheader Notes: Freshman Michael Meckna picked up his second win of the season tossing three scoreless innings in game one … Clarke got the win in game two … He extended his scoreless innings streak to 18.0 innings to start the season before finally giving up a run in the seventh … Six Oregon relievers combined to not allow a run in 7.1 inning of work … Redshirt freshman catcher Zach Justice made his career debut in game one of the doubleheader, while pitchers Tanner Bradley and Isaac Evaniew also made their Ducks’ debuts … Seven Ducks were hit by pitches in game one of the doubleheader, matching Friday’s number that also tied a program record … Garate was hit three times, while Hellman was hit twice … Oregon added two more HBP in game two to run the series total to 16. On Deck: The two teams wrap up their four-game series with a 12:05 p.m. first pitch on Sunday. Quotes: Head Coach Mark Wasikowski On 35 runs scored in one game... “You know, just want to win games, you know. And it was a really good offensive performance, and I thought both teams, the kids, played really well and it was fun to be a part of.” On pitching performance... “We had solid pitching all day, even from the guys who hadn’t gotten a chance to get out there, we had solid pitching. I was excited about the way the guys got after it on the mound. I thought it was a complete effort. We didn’t have but maybe a couple of blemishes, but even in the first game that the score got away, I mean, we just wanted them to play, we just wanted them to play hard and good baseball. And the young guys that got in, they got some really good experience in that game to be able to do that. And it was fun to watch them.” Jeffrey Heard lays down a perfect bunt! On Carter Garate’s performance... “Gritty, you know. I think he had 10 out of his 11 or so at bats, if I’m not mistaken, were really good at bats today, you know. And so, just gritty, team player playing good defense. Everything that you’re, you know, looking for.” On Coen Niclai’s offensive performance... “Well, oddly enough, he’d been, you know, in the fall, in the spring scrimmages for is, he’d been one of our team leaders in RBIs. And so, we’d really seen him hit, and hit very well for us in our scrimmages. And so, you know, it was just early, and he needed to get his feet underneath him. I think as you see him go more and more, you can tell we’ve got a ton of talented players. And Coen’s really, really good. He comes from a wonderful family too. The kid is really a rock star.” Collin Clarke On overall performance… “Did well, could have done better. Guy had a round in the seventh, could have gotten out of it, but I didn’t so.” On mentality going into second game of doubleheader… “I wouldn’t say there was really any change. Keeping the score down is always what you’re really trying to do.” On bullpen performance… “Gabe Howard came out and got my guy out. Cole Stokes and Santi Garcia were both competing in the zone. They did awesome.” Maddox Molony On hitting performance in first game… “I was confident. I felt like I was seeing the ball well and things were working. It was a lot of fun.” On Ryan Cooney’s performance… “It’s awesome. I definitely root for him a lot, but it’s cool to see him succeed with how hard he works, and I know how hard he does work.” Collin Clarke On team’s offensive success… “It’s being there for the next guy, being excited for the guy no matter what he’s doing. You’ve seen guys with success being excited for them. Guys without success are even more excited just being there for other guys.” Ryan Cooney On offensive breakthrough… “Baseball always has a little bit of luck in it, but I think I just wasn’t swinging at the best pitches, or I wasn’t finding what was right for me. I try to put up quality at bats for the team all the time. I think that was showing up in those first two weeks.” On team’s excitement in 35-run performance… “We were excited for dudes. It gets a lot of opportunities for other guys as well; I think that is really important. We’re relentless and I think our offense showed that today.” On approach entering fourth game of the series… “I think taking tomorrow’s game as a separate game. Every day is a new day. Today happened, it was awesome, but tomorrow we need to come out and be as relentless as we were in the first game today.”
  20. While Wisconsin is a track power, the addition of three former Pac-12 teams will improve the track profile of the B1G...with Our Beloved Ducks coming through already!
  21. Big 6'6" Cole Stokes came in finished off the Lion batters with his first pitch at 97 mph, and later throwing 99 mph.
  22. 7-3 Ducks after seven innings. What a shame...as Collin Clarke wore down in the seventh and gave up three runs. The pride of West Linn, freshman Gabe Howard came in and finished the third out.
  23. 5-0, Ducks after five innings. Collin Clarke has been awesome with five scoreless innings in this game to make 17 scoreless innings for the year!
  24. Game summaries of both games will be at the bottom of thread. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3-0 Ducks, after two innings. Collin Clarke has the hill, and is off to a great start! Alaskan Freshman Coen Niclai hit his first collegiate home run! The talent at catcher...
  25. It was announced in the telecast that regardless of the score...the game was going nine innings. Why?
