  1. Everyone is familiar with Dak Moore at receiver, and Na'eem Offord at corner getting good looks in fall camp as true freshmen, but another player has surfaced and may upset the depth chart. There were rumors about many of the faster running backs going out for passes in practice, and actually lining up in the slot this fall--as a new wrinkle by OC Will Stein. There have been murmurs about freshman RB Dierre Hill doing some explosive things in the practices. Now I knew from my coaching contact in Illinois where Hill is from that he is the "real" deal, and the coach/Duck-Buddy attested to this recruit being under-emphasized in the recruiting reports. Many of you will recall how I was promoting this young man, as someone to keep an eye on. When signed, he was 5'10" and 180 pounds; he is now up to 205 pounds with superb speed, agility and jump-cuts? And apparently he can catch the ball out of the backfield nicely, and is difficult to tackle in the open field. Again...these are rumblings, murmurs, and rumors at this point. (Did I get all the CYA words right?) We will need to see performance on the field, of course. But this is a B1G part of my entertainment, and that is watching for new players emerge, get their confidence, and watch their progress. As I said...this could really disrupt the RB depth chart if this pans out. What? He ran for 438 yards and six touchdowns in the State Championship game? He is No. 10 below...and has a stiff-arm like Jeremiah Johnson, (2007) and a limp-leg drop like Saladin McCullough of 1998. He can make tremendous cut-backs across the field, or in linebacker-land to extend a play. Oh baby....time for some FOOTBALL! In these highlights--he has it all at the HS level. He is elusive, can catch the ball, has acceleration, and breaks tackles with power. Whew! I've heard his first name pronounced, "Dare," and "Dee-air" and I imagine it won't be long before we learn the correct version!
  2. FIVE spots each for the Big-12, and ACC? REALLY?
  3. Ha! You made me laugh out loud with the beautiful logic that you used. But we don’t determine a regular season champion in football, it is determined by the top two who then play thus I cannot call it a regular season and tournament separately. In fact, I do not recall anybody declaring a regular season champion, unless you prefer to Rick Neuheisel and his Pacific Northwest championship? Great ponder point!
  4. So, when Ohio State came to the LOS in a particular formation--we countered. Then by studying us, Chip came back with a "counter-to-the-counter," and that is just great coaching. Did we continue to blunder into those same errors in the second half? No. Keep in mind that the damage was done in the first half....those three touchdowns referred to. In the second half, Oregon outscored Ohio State, and as lame as that sounds--it is true. So we did do some adjustments, but not enough, as the Buckeyes were a good team.
  5. First of all, I got this from Canzano today. I continue to subscribe because he does give us good takes on Oregon, but I have to live with his bootlicking of Beavis and his fans. His newsletter/email today was mostly nonsense about the "New-World Pac-12" (New is not always better!) and legal mashinations. He did confirm that the Pac-12 members expect 8-9 million a year from their media contract. Whew! Below is what he offered from his long interview with Tosh Lupoi, and I have to hand it to John...he got information we did not know for certain until now. JH: Lupoi’s defense was outstanding for most of last season. In nine of 13 games last season, Oregon’s opponents scored 18 or fewer points. But Penn State put up more than 500 yards and scored 37 points in the Big Ten title game (an Oregon win), and Ohio State scored 41 in the Rose Bowl (an Oregon loss). I asked Lupoi what he learned in those two postseason games. He said that Ohio State Offensive Coordinator Chip Kelly figured some things out after the regular-season matchup in Eugene. The Buckeyes noticed that the Ducks’ defense made pre-snap “checks” that were advantageous in Oregon’s 32-31 win in Eugene. In the second meeting, Ohio State baited UO’s defense into those pre-snap “checks” but were ready with on-the-fly adjustments that resulted in big plays. “They did a great job of getting us into those checks and then really game-planning those checks,” Lupoi said. “And three touchdowns alone were within those checks.” How does Oregon (and Lupoi) grow from that? “Well, we can still have a defense that’s made up of those checks that helped us win and attack and play really well,” he said, “but also have come up with some new calls where you can just play out the integrity of the defense and not get in a check.” Lupoi said “self-scouting” was a big piece of the offseason for him.
  6. Washington tried to claim at the time that Oregon was GREEN with Penix-Envy. I thought that was a pretty clever joke from those bastards!
  7. It will never matter to everyone outside of the west coast; they did not watch us before, and never would had we remained in the Pac, thus never know our true value. I do believe that Oregon's talent is elevated by being in the B1G with Dan Lanning at least 20% above what it would have been in the old Pac. I still believe that what the AD did this past year is amazing, and would hope Oregon fans appreciate it. BTW...the "backlink" in the beginning of the article that helps to pay the bills of the two sites? The SEO company is in Bulgaria, and the link was to a casino site in New Zealand, and I am in Eugene Oregon? That is about as international as you can get! Plovdiv, Bulgaria
  8. Atticus Sappington hit a 60 yard field goal today in practice! That means the ball was on the opponent's 43 yard line, plus seven for the placement, and ten more for the end zone. Incredible!
  9. Starting about the third minute....they give some information about Bear that nobody has brought up before, and SHOUTS to what his impact could be this fall. There are other elements of this video that make it worth 12 minutes of your time as well. Good stuff! A fun way to pass a little time between tasks...
  10. Another OD...you beat me to it, and Jon wanted that addition added to his article, and I figured we would cover it in the comments. Oregon is listed with just five returning players, but when you look at portal transfers who were tremendous starters at other schools...that number changes. When you consider Theran Johnson, the incredible corner from Northwestern, Dillon Thieneman Jr. from Purdue at safety, and Bear Alexander from USC, we see three starters on defense from portal transfers. On offense, we see Isiah World from Nevada, Emmanuel Pregnon from USC, Matthew Bedford from Indiana, and Alex Harkey from Texas State on the offensive line alone. Add Dante Moore at QB, (UCLA) and Makhi Hughes from Tulane, and Oregon's "rebuilding" year looks very different. That number of "5" now moves up to "14 with the portal transfers, which is why, with the schedule, Our Beloved Ducks look to do a lot of winning this year! Makhi Hughes
  11. I break rivalries into two very different categories; the first are the ones that bring the bile of vomit up my throat, and that is of course... Huskies Trojans Beavis (in Baseball) The second category is "want" to beat them, their arrogant fans, etc., and I really only get that vibe from... Ohio State Michigan I agree with HDuck, in that it takes more time to develop the hatred, more wins by Our Beloved Ducks over those usual B1G heavyweights. We are in elite company now, and we will be in some blockbuster games over the next number of years!
  12. My Beloved Duck-Buddies, we have had an issue here on the forum since Saturday morning, and I was not able to get help until now. Pretty hard to contain my frustration, but without going into details...people on chrome often could not see the site and got an "Error" page when they came to the site. The only way to solve it was to clear everyone's Google Chrome cookies that automatically populated the password for you when you sign in. This means you have to sign in again, and mark "OK" when the password manager asks if it should remember your password. Please....email me for your password if you cannot remember it or cannot find it ONLY after you have looked diligently. BTW...if you put in for a new password, you will NOT receive an email as it says. You have to email me at charles@fishduck.com for a new password, and include your phone number, name and handle name for in case we have a snag. And once you are signed in, you do NOT have to sign out. Just leave and click out of the page, and when you come back--you are automatically signed in. There is no danger here in doing that... No problem, not frustrated at all...
  13. The forum thread with the "Foundation" video--has some looks inside the video.
  14. A great video, and contributed by a new member AIGoDucks, who we welcome! As he said to me about this video, "it makes me proud to be a Duck."
  15. I think this might come under the category of "what we as fans don't know," because Danno knew Bear at Georgia, and we haven't yet had any issues with Bear thus far. In fact, he seems to be taking his last year seriously, and is currently slated as a starter. With the young, talented depth at defensive line? If Bear takes downs off--he will lose playing time, IMHO.
  16. Damn. Good thing we left some sinking ships in the old Pac-12, as the NIL money has dried up at Cal, and thus why the mass exodus of their best players out earlier this year. But Stanford announced a $140 Million Budget Shortfall, and has eliminated 363 campus positions. (At Oregon, we gotta count our blessings!) The average home attendance for the Cardinal last fall was only 26,035? Good gosh, even Beavis at least averaged 35,799 in Corvallis! Way to go...'Furd.
  17. Canzano reported that the benefits are both teams getting full stadiums, a short travel time, and for Beavis...a great TV game to sell every two years. Canzano admitted to putting the UO President on the spot asking..."after what Oregon did to Oregon State....what are you going to do to help?" Let's see....Beavis claims we did this for money...yes we did. Yet they retained the Pac-12 name to extract their half of the 300 million they are stealing from the departing ten former Pac-12 members, so they are doing that for money too, and did not consider doing the "right thing." Beavis claims that "Oregon broke up the conference," and then the Pig-2 proceed to destroy the Mountain West. You can't make this stuff up...
  18. No sweat, trying to figure out the issue we have....
  19. Great topic, Pitt. Even now...both would be worth the gamble, and both would have had a much better chance succeeding under Lanning than under Chip and Helf. In the end...I'll bet Cliff would have made it, but Colt's incredible talents would fall short of his demons. Touchdown...Lyerla.
  20. Bama fans are smarter than some others....
  21. Well, when the SEC decides to go to nine games, and we begin to set up non-conference games between the B1G and the SEC every year with the entire leagues, then we may see at Autzen... While that may not happen for a while, it is now quite possible compared to before.
  22. I agree; those other traditional blue-bloods have their 'Nattys, and while Oregon is an elite team at this time, we will not be a blue-blood until we win a few. Hence those other programs have their traditionals established, and Dan would just be following in their history already built. The expectations would be high, and he would simply be trying to "match" what has been done in the past. At Oregon...he can establish a legacy unlike any other prior coach in Eugene, and I think he wants to. He has stated that he wants his boys to all graduate from the same high school, and the youngest is now 11 years old, thus I believe we have six years of him, minimum. He strikes me as the type of guy that once he has won a 'Natty or two at Oregon...he will have "done-it" at the college level, and will want to match the best defensive minds in the NFL. Although he could be a "Lifer" here if he wanted to! Recruits....Come to Oregon!
