Duarte is the First DUCK EVER to be Finalist for Award...

OREGON ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2020 MEN’S BASKETBALL EUGENE, Ore. – Senior guard Chris Duarte was named one of five finalists for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award on Tuesday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He is the first Jerry West Award finalist in program history. The other 2021 Jerry West Award finalists are Joel Ayayi of Gonzaga, Quentin Grimes of Houston, MaCio Teague of Baylor and Joe Wieskamp of Iowa. Duarte, from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, is one of only two players in the nation averaging 16 points and two steals per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. He leads the Pac-12 in steals (2.1 per game) and three-pointers made (2.6 per game). In addition to leading the league in steals and three-pointers, Duarte is ranked among the Pac-12’s top 10 in six different statistical categories. He is seventh in scoring (16.8 points per game), fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.420) and ninth in field goal percentage (.530). Earlier this season, Duarte was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the third time in his career on Jan. 4. He averaged 21.0 points per game on 50 percent shooting (15-of-30), including 47 percent from three-point range (9-of-19) in the Ducks’ weekend sweep of California and Stanford. He also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. Duarte was at his best in the closing minutes of each game. He scored 14 of his 19 points in the final 5:18 to help the Ducks turn a three-point lead into a 13-point victory over the Golden Bears on Dec. 31. Jan. 2 versus Stanford, Duarte tallied 11 of team-high 23 points in the final 5:43 to turn a four-point cushion into a 17-point win. The Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award is named after Class of 1980 Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West. Previous winners of the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award include Myles Powell, Seton Hall (2020), RJ Barrett, Duke (2019), Carsen Edwards, Purdue (2018), Malik Monk, Kentucky (2017), Buddy Hield, Oklahoma (2016) and D’Angelo Russell, Ohio State (2015). The winner of the 2021 Jerry West Award will be presented April 9, 2021, along with the other four members of the Men’s Starting Five. One of those awards is the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award, which was won by Oregon’s Payton Pritchard in 2020.

The New Repository: Depth Chart, Analysis Library, Videos and More!

Hmmm. Repository was supposed to resemble the feeling of like a number of deposits at a bank, a central place...but I see where you are coming from on this. Mr. FishDuck likes "Ducks Den" as alliteration always wins him over... We already have an Analysis Library, and I am open to other suggestions too. Anyone?

		Tyler Shough to Texas Tech?

Right now there are a few "data-aggregators" of Oregon Sports, but none of them cover very many sites/locations due to the labor-intensive nature of searching, reading/accessing for relevant content and then posting said content into one place. My objective/dream is to have a Pinned Topic at the top of all the topics every day, and it would called, as an example, FishDuck Feed: Oregon Sports Articles for February 22, 2021 and tomorrow it would be un-pinned to float downward with a new one replacing it at the top for February 23rd. In these Pinned Topics would be all the article links out there as our content-hunting team would be checking over 30 sites a couple of times a day. We would have a few aggregation tools that would help in the process, but some will be have to be done the old fashioned ways via search and going to some sites each time. The end result would be from 15 to 50 article links being provided each day in the FishDuck Feed, and would be an incredible convenience for Oregon fans, ....especially if it was free. In the old days, OneClickSports was a nice page with all the links, but they, like others went away with the paltry revenue gained from web ads these days. But we will be gathering from far more sites than they did or any are right now by a mile. There will be nothing like it--either before or now. What is in it for US? Most people are NOT forum-type people, but everybody who reads Oregon articles would love to have one place to find all the articles each day. (or 95% of them) No wasted time searching...just reading about Our Beloved Ducks! These non-forum type of people will come for the FishDuck Feed, but a percentage will drift down and read the other topics and a percentage of them will sign up and become those who post their thoughts. Hence our wonderful community will grow, and we are providing a wonderful service to thousands of Duck fans. No having to search or scroll for miles down a Twitter or Facebook; all the articles in one place and being added through the day as they are being published. Duck Reading Nirvana! Before I can offer this feature--I have a ton of work first to complete and part of that is assembling a group of volunteers who are willing to give four hours out of 168 hours in a week to serve their fellow Oregon fans. My target for offering this is by May 1st, due to all the background stuff that has to be organized with the software, and the policies/processes to arrive at with the content-hunting team. We will be the first site anywhere to offer this in the depth I am visualizing, and it will be fun to see it happen. My thanks, Charles

OMIGOSH! Men to Make Up Games with Arizona, UCLA at MKA

OREGON ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2020 MEN’S BASKETBALL EUGENE, Ore. – Home games against Arizona and UCLA have been added to Oregon’s schedule while the regular-season finale at Oregon State has been moved back a day. The Pac-12 announced the final round of schedule adjustments for games postponed due to COVID-19-related issues on Monday. The Ducks will host Arizona on Monday, March 1, and UCLA on Wednesday, March 3. As a result, the Oregon-OSU game that was scheduled for Saturday, March 6, in Corvallis has been moved to Sunday, March 7. Times of all three games have yet to be determined. The Arizona and UCLA games will be on the ESPN family of networks, while the broadcast coverage for the OSU game will be announced at a later date. The Arizona game was originally scheduled for Jan. 15 at Matthew Knight Arena. This is the fourth time Oregon and UCLA will attempt to play a game that was initially slated to be contested on Dec. 23 in Eugene. Two other make-up dates for that game were also postponed, Jan. 19 in Eugene and Feb. 1 in Los Angeles. The Ducks will now play four times in seven days with games at Stanford on Thursday and California on Saturday ahead of the two rescheduled games.

		Tyler Shough to Texas Tech?

It is the Big-12 equivalent of Starkville for the SEC, or Pullman for the Pac-12.... "if this is not the end of the world....you can see it from here!" Lovely Lubbock...

"People-Mover" Jordon Scott: I DON'T AGREE, do You?

Yes, as he said so in newspaper interviews. My speculation is that he went to Joe Salave'a and said he wanted to lose weight "to get more sacks" and if not allowed to cut pounds...he would opt out. I would assume that the coaches went along with this with fingers crossed and hoping for the best. But he is not a pass-rusher and at the lower weight was not a space-eater and did not demand double-teams, thus an open lineman to go get our newbie linebackers. But again....this is guesses and speculation on my part.

I am just happy that he is in Texas, and not at USC again with his new skills and sobriety.

Texas is "Out For Blood" on the Pac-12

If I am a 5-Star QB out of California....I would see more opportunity at Texas than at Oregon right now. If there is a talent drain of both players and coaches out of the Pac-12, then what Mario has assembled in both areas keeps us way above the Pac....

"People-Mover" Jordon Scott: I DON'T AGREE, do You?

Powerful stuff, because I too maintain that with great D-Line play...it would have taken pressure off the newbie linebackers and secondary and everything is different on defense.

"People-Mover" Jordon Scott: I DON'T AGREE, do You?

I call it the way I see it, and to me--Jordon Scott will not stick on an NFL team....and if he does, it will tick-me-off that much more as he did not perform at Oregon this last year as needed. He has had some great moments, and I am grateful for him coming to Oregon, but 2020 was not a good year for him, IMHO. Thoughts?

No. 17 USC vs No. 23 Ducks: The Game for FIRST PLACE!

For you basketball junkies....fill us in as to what to look for and what we should expect.? Arizona surprised the Trojans with a loss, and especially with all the scoring in the paint against them, and one analyst at the Pac-12 Network thought that game was a good wake-up call for USC. Lovely. This will be on Fox Sports 1 and no Bill Walton! (Whew!) For live stream and live stats....go to this page at GoDucks.com and scroll down to the game and click on either or both options there. From the Press Release for the Credentialed Media: Oregon and No. 17 USC - two teams tied at the top of the Pac-12 in the loss column - meet Monday at 6 p.m. in Los Angeles (FS1) in a rescheduled game that was initially slated for Jan. 30. • 1 – Saturday against Utah, Oregon secured its 11th consecutive winning season, a program first. The win also assured Dana Altman of his 24th consecutive winning season as a head coach; an active streak shared by only by Altman and four Hall of Famers: Jim Boeheim, Mike Krzyzewski, Bill Self and Tom Izzo. • 3 – Chris Duarte is one of just three players in the nation averaging at least 17.0 points and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 50 percent from the field, and is the only major conference player putting up those numbers. • 4 – Eugene Omoruyi has scored in double figures in 17-of-18 games this season. He is fifth in the Pac-12 in scoring at 17.2 points per game. • 5 – Oregon’s top five scorers – Chris Duarte, Eugene Omoruyi, Will Richardson, LJ Figueroa and Eric Williams Jr. – have all played in the same game only two times this season, Feb. 11 at Arizona State and Saturday against Utah. • BENCH – Under Dana Altman, Oregon has won nearly 90 percent of its games (187-21) when holding opponents below 70 points. • BENCH – With Eugene Omoruyi scoring his 1,000th point as a collegian Feb. 13 at Arizona, Oregon is now just one of two schools nationally with four 1,000-point scorers on the roster. Ole Miss is the other. Eric Williams Jr. is an unsung key component to Oregon's post-season hopes.

Coach Graves: Ducks Get a Big Win, 72-48 Over USC

OREGON ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2021 LOS ANGELES — The Oregon women’s basketball team earned a huge bounce-back win in its final road game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon at the Galen Center, using a balanced offensive attack and stifling defense to defeat USC, 72-48. The No. 13 Ducks (13-6, 10-6 Pac-12) matched their season-high with 12 made three-pointers and held their opponent to fewer than 50 points for the fourth time this season to snap a three-game losing streak and head into next Sunday’s regular-season finale on a high note. Disappointed with their performance and effort in Friday’s loss at No. 8 UCLA, the Ducks held a live scrimmage in practice on Saturday – something head coach Kelly Graves said he has never done on a day between road games – to try and up the intensity. “They were challenged yesterday,” said Graves. “We had a great practice, very high-spirited. We did a lot live (scrimmaging) in practice and I think it paid off today. This was a good win and I think a good character win. I think it shows that this team has some character and the kind of mental make-up that is necessary to continue to compete down the stretch. They were challenged – believe me – in film sessions and other places, and they answered.” Who Stood Out: Sydney Parrish enjoyed one of the best games of her young career, as the freshman led Oregon with 17 points while going 4-of-6 from three-point range and adding a career-high four steals. Erin Boley continued her history of playing well against USC with 13 points and eight rebounds, and Nyara Sabally and Sedona Prince each finished with 11 points. Freshman Te-Hina Paopao was solid in directing the offense, dishing out a career-high eight assists against just two turnovers while also grabbing seven rebounds. What It Means: The Ducks were searching for a spark after taking three straight losses, and the intensity and effort from Saturday’s practice translated onto the court on Sunday. Graves praised players like Taylor Chavez and Sabally for stepping up as leaders, a welcome sight for a young team looking to build momentum with postseason right around the corner. Notable: UO extended its winning streak over USC to 10 straight games … The Ducks held their opponent to fewer than 50 points for the fourth time this season, and less than 60 points for the 12th time … Sabally notched her team-leading 14th double-figure scoring performance with Boley (10th), Prince (7th) and Parrish (5th) also reaching double digits … Chavez returned to the starting lineup for the first time since Jan. 24, hitting a three-pointer to open the scoring. Up Next: Oregon is scheduled to close the regular season against Oregon State next Sunday, February 28, at home against Oregon State (3 p.m. PT, Pac-12 Network).

Ducks Beat the Huskies, are 7-0 in TENNIS

OREGON ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2021 EUGENE, Ore. – Needing four wins in singles play, the Oregon men’s tennis team responded accordingly for a 4-3 triumph Sunday afternoon over Washington at the UO Student Tennis Center. The visitors won the doubles point and led 3-2 before the Ducks rallied with wins at No. 2 and 6 singles. Oregon improves to 7-0 this season with Sunday’s victory. Quotable: “Today we did it the Oregon way with a lot of grit and blue-collar work, and came out on top at the end. It was a great college match.” – head coach Nils Schyllander “Once (Luke Vandecasteele) got into the third, I felt really good because you could tell he was physically stronger at that moment. First changeover, he told me ‘I can go three out of five sets. I’m fresh, coach’ and I knew.” – head coach Nils Schyllander “I feel pretty good. It’s kind of hard not to after winning a match like that. This is definitely the dog days of the term, school wise, so it’s good for our team to be able to come out there and fight. Plus, it’s our third match of the week and we’re looking forward to three more (next week) so it could be easy to lay down some times but the fact that we were able to come out here and fight…it’s impressive to say the least.” – Sophomore Luke Vandecasteele Notable: Seventh different singles lineup in seven matches … Coste (5-0), Klov-Nilsson (6-0), Quinn Vandecasteele (6-0) remain undefeated in singles play … UO did not lead in the match until the final win at No. 6 singles … first of two matches between the teams this season; play again April 10 in Seattle … Sunday’s match did not count toward Pac-12 standings. Up Next: The Ducks head to Arizona for three matches next week, beginning with a neutral matchup with New Mexico (Feb. 25) in Tempe. Oregon opens conference play at No. 22 Arizona State (Feb. 26) and No. 21 Arizona (Feb. 28). We are not going to be doing press releases of tennis for either gender very often, but a win over the Huskies justifies my efforts!
