  1. Lanning would not be doing anything exceptional winning a 'Natty at Alabama, and in fact if he doesn't--he's gone. But at Oregon...he can do it, and be legendary among us. I believe he will stay if offered.
  2. I love watching players emerge, or improve and get their confidence. Seeing Bassa answer the call at inside linebacker, and watching Tez explode in the last half of the season was great fun for me.
  3. Yep, I don't think Oregon is green with Penix-Envy now...
  4. It is he who broke the recruiting glass ceiling at Oregon. Before he left--he had the No. 3 recruiting class in the nation. Cristobal rescued most of it, but no one had as high a recruiting ranking before or since.
  5. Dav3d....for a first post--you can't do any better! You are one of us already...WELCOME!
  6. Like I wrote before, and for people who want to hear it again...I still believe.
  7. This 2023 team has had a bit of bad luck, in that if this team had been playing the Oregon schedule of prior years, and those conference teams in those years....Oregon goes 13-0. This was a very good team, one that is on-par with any of Oregon's best. But we had the bad luck of having you-know-who having a once-in-a-generation year, and OBD just came up a little short. I do choose to look at the enormous progress, the team Dan built from recruiting players and coaches because what we had this season is 100% better than what Cristobal left us. That was a monumental rebuild. Lanning is now adding to that foundation, and... ...the future looks so bright that...
  8. The link for the article in the post above does not always work, so here is another one. Oregon Ducks finish 6th in final AP Top 25 poll; Beavers receiving votes WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM The final AP poll of the season places the Ducks 6th, and the Beavers on the outside looking in.
  9. Amen, Duck-Brother. There will be SO MANY can't miss games to watch next fall in our new conference...whew!
  10. As Jon's article the other day demonstrated...the schedules next year of most SEC teams is brutal, especially now that they added Texas and Oklahoma to it. "In 2024, Bama plays No. 6. Georgia and No. 9. Missouri in Tuscaloosa. Bama plays No. 12. Oklahoma (the Saturday before the Iron Bowl,) No. 13 LSU, and No.21 Tennessee on the road." "In 2024. Georgia opens with No. 22 Clemson in Atlanta, and plays on the road at No. 4 Alabama, No. 3 Texas, and No. 11 Ole Miss with a home game versus No. 21. Tennessee." So both Alabama and Georgia have five very difficult games next year, while Oregon's schedule has four or five brutal ones as well. There are no gimmies on the schedule of a Super-Conference now, so welcome to big-time college football!
  11. Great to have you posting as a new OBD member, WELCOME!
  12. Good gosh…what a Maroon! Clearly, a very young writer with no sense of CFB history. Or just lazy. It takes very little research to see that Oregon had that in the past…like check the History section in the Oregon Football Repository at FishDuck.com! (Misspelling in the first sentence is intentional)
  13. Hello My FishDuck Friends, As I've made reference to a few times recently--I am now officially divorced after 43 years. This has been a very amicable parting, as I believe both of us are good people who simply want to move on in our final years without each other. In fact we have been living as "tolerant roommates" through the divorce, and through the house sale--as we have been for years. Considering the divorce horror stories from so many Duck-Buddies...I am very fortunate, as we had a very fair distribution of assets, and we are able to get things done in normal speaking tones. I truly wish her well, and will stay in touch, I'm sure. I will remain in the Eugene-Springfield area to remain close to my daughter, and of course, Our Beloved Ducks. We have accepted an offer on our house, and close on February 20th, assuming the inspections go as usual. (I do not anticipate any issues) Thus I will be a busy-boy finding an interim place to live, and taking the time needed to go through, move, and store the stuff of 43 years. We have always been fairly lean, so it should not be too bad. I will not make any permanent living decisions for quite a while--as to own, rent, etc. For now I will go into a temporary rental of some type, (once I find it) and then take my time checking out all the interesting living options in the community. I am counting my blessings that we are completing this now, and especially after football season! I won't lose any digital copies of the games as a result, and the expected problems with my fragile electronic equipment can be dealt with due to having two months to work with before the Spring Game. I will be beginning my Planned Giving Workshops again this spring with churches and non-profits, showing people how to leave a gift after their passing that when designed correctly--can really help retired people live better in retirement while leaving a Planned Gift. I've set up millions of dollars in Planned Gifts over the years, and look forward to making an impact in the community over the next decade. And I will be here in the OBD forum with all of you for my all-consuming passion, Our Beloved Ducks. We have great times ahead as Duck fans, and my commitment to this forum and FishDuck.com remains unwavering. Boy, I am going to miss my Oregon Football ManCave, but yet...never-say-never. If any of you have advice on anything concerning my upcoming journey, do email me as I welcome all feedback. charles@fishduck.com
  14. I cannot recall who, but an astute OBD member here pointed out that since Dillon Gabriel is left-handed, this means his blind side is on the right side. I just assumed that Josh Connerly will guard our new QB just fine with all his experience, but now I realize it is the tackle on the other side who is Gabriel's blind-side protector. Thus Ajani Cornelius becomes that much more crucial, and we have not heard if he is going to the NFL or not. If we had a newbie at that important right offensive tackle? Not good... I would like to think that another year would improve Cornelius's draft stock, and now especially being the blind-side protector...that could really up his stock, and give him great experience with that pressure. C'mon man!
  15. I think of all the great recruits of the last two years, and think of the Ducks with lots of young talent. But among the starters? TONS of experience in the entire offense, and on defense we have both inside linebackers, and now with three of five DBs filled with experience. At the moment, we will have some new starters on the defensive line, but we don’t know the extent until the portal transfers are fully known. We have an abundance of young talent on the defensive line, but not a lot of experience yet. That is only real area of youth on the team, IMHO. Overall, Ryan, you quite right, even if with some tongue-in-cheek.
  16. This is B1G... (Boy we really need him!)
