My FishDuck Friends....I've had two dear friends who have been associated with this site tell me in the last week that they are moving in the future from where they reside, and are looking for a place to retire where the living costs are cheap.

    Any suggestions for them?

I am locked into Eugene, (I can't leave Our Beloved Ducks) but I thought this would be of help for everyone.  Where can you buy housing inexpensively, or rent cheaply and live better than the majority of areas?  Public transit is important for some...

One fellow referred to it as "Looking for Mayberry," as he wants to live in a small town and get to know the people in the community.

    Thoughts?

From the looks and sounds of this young man he will no doubt get a 5th star associated to his name. He is a hard worker from what I've seen and could invision Dante Moore throwing bombs to him in the near future. By the looks of his game if he keeps playing like he is and working just as hard he'll more than likely be a future first rounder.

  3. Just a heads up people Wilfong is saying Oregon could have two quacks real soon. He was talking about the 5 star QB from Detroit, 5 star Young and the OT back east. Apparently Wilfong says  Oregon has a leg up on these 3 and if even two were to commit and especially the QB Moore then Oregon's class would then start to go into the stratosphere.

Read in on Duck Wire. I'm stoked for this weekend to get over with. Maybe going to the beach with the Mrs not that we can afford it but gonna try and go anyways. Just wait till we get back and find out the news.

Lazy, lazy stuff where they take a quote and an incomplete search to pump out an article.  Geez....

By all accounts, the Oregon Ducks knocked it out of the park by hiring Dan Lanning. The young, talented coach is an ace recruiter...

Great stuff Josh. I do find myself not fully agreeing with you on most everything you usually put out there. Lets start with Oregon will never flounder at the bottom end of the PAC 12 ever again or shouldn't ever. Phil Knight has made Oregon to me just in everything he's had built here Top 10 school W/O a doubt. Nike will more than likely be the top shoe sports apparel for the forseable future. Yes it's not gonna happen this year but not so fast.

Oregon has 7 Five star players coming to Oregon for officials in the next two weeks. 12 Four star players and 1 three star. That's massive recruiting being done right there. I remember looking at Georgia's classes the last 3 years and they were always 5 and 4 star classes pretty much full. If Oregon gets just half of these players to say sign in December that would be Oregon's best class to date trumping Mario by leaps and bounds.

Do I think Oregon wins it all this year? No but is there enough talent to get Oregon to the promised land? Yes I believe that. Its really up to Bo to show out this year and bring that 5 star ranking to the forefront. Oregon is finally getting close and I do except that fans should expect Oregon to take that next step and good for them to want this. I'm an old fan and I'm not certainly saying ancient either just old enough to know where it started with me and where we are right now.

I expect Oregon to be putting themselves to the top and I mean the top of the PAC 12 not SC.

With these highly rated qb's, I can't help but think it ends up being all about the NIL $$.

The standard has been set by so many schools of getting big pay days for these kids, a kid would have to have some serious love for the coaches and program to pass up a big payday.

Given that lately it seems like our Ducks are fading in pursuit of Jaden Rashada, this is very good news for Oregon (at the moment).

You could look at that way. There are 7 five star talented players coming to Oregon in the next 2 weeks. Twelve 4 star and one 3 star recruit. That's exactly how Lanning and the staff did it at Georgia and all their classes were this talented who actually signed on every year and it finally payed off with their championship year. Lanning is very bright young football mind and I feel a whole lot better with him at the helm and he hasn't coached 1 game yet that means anything than Mario ever.

Oregon will figure this out and look how Georgia beat BAMA last year, they did it with basically sub par QB play. I wouldn't say their QB was the top of the A list. They did it with great defensive game plan which was Lanning and great defenders. If Oregon say lands 4 of these 5 stars and most of the 4 stars this will indeed trump anything Mario has done.

Sorry I cannot take any stock in what that guy ever says. There is no way Utah beats Oregon in Eugene as it's not going to happen. Oregon should end their 12 game season with 1 loss and that will be to Georgia. Oregon with their AD went out and got the best that money could buy to coach these players. Now with success Oregon will need to pay their coaches better money to keep these coaches here for hopefully three seasons. When and if they do decide to leave the coaches that replace them keeps the machine running smooth.

Every single position group at Oregon has an extraordinary recruiter....we will get ours!

You know we should all acknowledge right now we are impressed with Dan and his way of looking ahead and what it will take to make the goals they indeed want. We know Mario was the HC who allegedly new about O Lineman. Lanning went out and got a real Big O Lineman who actually played the position in all phases of Football and then when done coached at the top of the league himself.

Now I've made references in the past about Mario and Minnie me. Myself if I were 6,5 and 320 lbs and had upside who would I be more apt to believe in their abilities to get me to the next league a guy who stands at 5,2 and maybe 160lbs or a guy who fits the bill as my line coach? I'm laughing at this scenario going ahead. Look at where Conerly was gonna go to and that was SC. Klemm worked that Lineman talk and brought him to a better place.

I have a whole lot of faith Klemm secures both the bookend Tackles who are both 5 stars. Oregon's trajectory is the sky right now and I'm wondering who will this staff go after for their signal caller? My opinion is there is talent out there and believe Oregon doesn't have to pay for him either as far as 7 million they wont.

It all ends up at the same door! MONEY. That's what society is and that's obvious in every aspect about life. As far as this staying back in school for advantage this should have rules like everything else does and this should be no different. Its not fair to a kid that doesn't quite have any idea about sports yet. Competition is great and if these kids are that good then they should move ahead not stay behind. Just like now a QB from HS got 7 Million from Tennessee to play.

The guy allegedly was interested in Oregon just like this other star whom allegedly we wont pay for him and at one time was Oregon's until pay for play came to the four front. At one time I remember hearing Knight wasn't ever interested in the Blazers now apparently is. So will this work for Oregon as in not going out and paying for the best QB? To me is it what it is now and that's pay for play so all's I know is I want a Championship and frankly don't care how they do it " Just do it. "

Yes, and I like it that way.

Let's stay under the radar for as long as possible. The 2 losses to Utah last year, losing Dye in transfer, a new starting qb,and a new coaching staff, makes for the rest of the country to think we have too much to overcome.

The pressure is already on USC due to expectations. That sets up potential of a disappointing year for them.

We can start out of the gate with nothing to lose, play loose, and have success.

    I like our chances.

Like the comment on how this team should perform. Also this roster is loaded with talent so hopefully Dan and his staff get the best out of the talent. Here's hoping this team catches fire and keeps kicking tail all year. Would be nice to see Flowe playing injury free all seasons and seeing him kick arsss when he's hitting people. That duo of Flowe and Sewell is gonna be one heck of a Football machine.

Not sure it is wise to spend too much money on a high school qb when there will be many proven guys in the portal, if history is any indicator. Not my money, but it would seem the wise money is spent on the kid who has proven himself on the college level.

Times are a changing, and the spoils will come to the shrewdest program, not just the richest.

Yeah I agree totally with you. Why on earth would you pay this kid 7 million like the last kid we were alleged to get. I mean I'm sure we could do it but when would it stop. Believe me this new recipe will not last. So we can only hope which ever way Oregon goes hopefully it results in the playoff's and our first championship.

This is another the rich get richer thing. The schools with the biggest recruiting budgets can bring in more visitors.

Now... For Oregon this would probably be a benefit even though the coaches probably wouldn't see it that way with less time off.

But a program like Oregon state would probably not see much of a benefit from unlimited official visits because they probably can't financially sustain a great deal of more official visits.

The biggest losers in all of this... Low tier division one schools and FCS schools.

It is a business though so I believe if Oregon wants to compete with the SEC and just win a championship they will need to do whatever that takes. Money talks and you know what walks!

I think that many did not realize how prepared Mullen and Company were for the oncoming of NIL, I sure wasn't.  I think that when Mullen hired Lanning it had a heck of a lot to do with not only Lanning's reputation as a quality coach, but his reputation as an outstanding recruiter.  It's obvious to me, looking back that Mullen had met with the major donors to the Duck AD and set up the beginning of a very well planned and laid out NIL program for the Ducks.  Lanning certainly has put together not only an excellent group of coaches as far as coaching is concerned, but also a fantastic group of coaches that are some of the best recruiters in the game.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the Oregon staff has hit the ground running in seemingly all areas of the athletic department. Not only is football going well, but seemingly all other Duck sports as well in the recruiting area.

In my opinion a tremendous amount of credit goes to Rob Mullen who saw what was coming and prepared for it.

All great points. These coaches are running with this and look at June and recruiting? The best talent ever is going to come here and hang out and whatever going on here were going to enjoy it all. Only thing I can think of why we'd fail in any way and that would be injury's. I think we've had our share and can we please have no injuries this season please. Also believe this is what comes from the transfer portal and recruiting as in players who can play in space. Go Ducks as I can't wait till September.

I would argue the opposite. Oregon has no identity under Lanning. All we have is a growing expectation in which Dan Lanning is doing everything right. The game against Georgia will define Oregon, until enough data is available to change the way we look against Georgia.

Georgia already has a definition of who they are as a program under Smart. They have struggled, at times, and always come back and even won a national title. If they struggle and even lose they will be fine. There may be some panic, but they have a proven head coach who can lead a team.

If Oregon gets beat badly or struggles mightily the pressure will grow, and unanswered questions will arise. This is why the first impression is so important. People who understand relationships understand the first impression is critical. I can only imagine what will be said if we lose to Georgia, and then BYU. All we have now is projections on how a game will go, a point spread, and expectations, some wildly optimistic, what if that thinking is blown away?

This will be Dan Lanning first impression on the nation and the Duck Nation. The pressure will be huge!

Imagine you have only dreamt of doing something and never actually done it. The marriage between Oregon and Dan Lanning will truly begin when we play Georgia. Not necessarily where a first time coach wants to be defined in his first act as a coach.

You have been training all your life, and your first race is the Olympic trials. You have been going to school all your life and then your first job is as CEO doing a reorganization. All eyes are on you and there is no pressure, come on!

Don't think most of the pressure is on the Ducks and that is proven. Lanning really has nothing to prove except beating Georgia on about an un neutral site you could be at. This is a home game for them no doubt. LOL as this is crazy yet never say never and I new Oregon would beat OSU. The odd's were just to good for Oregon to finally win that game. Oregon has a huge amount of talent so don't say never. This was a game I figured Ducks would lose and I expect Oregon to go W/O a loss in the PAC 12. Final 11-1

Like the sound of that! I really do believe Lanning is the real deal and his super staff will bring in Oregon's best class ever so each coach has actually made it better. Taggart, Mario, and now Lanning a guy who from what we hear out of his mouth and see by his actions, this dude gets it. He's in tune with how Football works in this crazy time. Thank you.

He ditched tOSU for Oregon with his last official visit.  Coach Dillingham and Locklyn are mentioned as the reasons why he's seriously considering our Ducks, it would be huge to reel in this recruit!

Not one of MC’s finer moments.

I’m sure most of you have told someone, “Know your audience.”  This outburst clearly demonstrates MC sadly doesn’t know his.  My guess is that the memo for understanding how to get the attention of today’s youth was buried under Miami real estate listings along with a copy of Phillip Brooks’ book, ‘Forward Pass: The Play That Saved Football’.  Damn shame he didn’t find time to read that.

There have been societal advancements since the days of frequent facemask grabbing (Sorry Jimbo), name-calling, and intentional demeaning behaviors.  And here’s where the “adults” in the room have lost the advantage – today’s young folks are aware of this.  Sorry, but they are just better informed than we were as youths.

Great timing.  My 21-year-old just walked in. I played the video for him, and our brief question / answer sessions went as follows:

Jester:  So, what do you think?

Smarter Offspring (SO):  That’s just disrespectful.  He can yell at me, but not like that.  Particularly the part where he tried to belly-up to me.  Disrespectful.

Jester:  What do you think Hutson’s thinking?

SO:  Did what I would have done.  Just stood there and took it.  Inside I guarantee he feels nothing but disrespect.  He made his point after a couple seconds, and I was fine with that.

Jester:  In the long run, is Hutson better off for receiving a tongue-lashing like this?

SO:  No.  You don’t show respect, you don’t get respect.  Mario can kiss my a**.

There you have it.  Nothing wraps-up a discussion like a bum smooch.  Like it or not, today’s game is filled with NIL, transfers, and plenty of respect.  I’m not sure when Aretha’s signature tune became so paramount with the today’s youth, but I do know to reach (and keep) the modern-day player coaches need to carefully toe-the-line between constructive criticism and acting as if they’re being possessed by the ghost of Woody Hayes.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T has got my musical juices flowing, so here’s another R&B/Soul tune that I’ve thoughtfully selected just for the Havana Huckster.  Hit the Road Jack!

Sorry but it doesn't say respect is something that you shouldn't give to people and that's what's wrong with society today as most of them don't respect anything. As far as Hutson goes he did everything right and he didn't Disrespect Mario back. If everybody respected everybody's space just their space we'd all be better off. Don't get me wrong Mario just rubbed me the wrong way and especially this last year when you could say he TANKED the season because he wanted back to that sweat shop of a State. Willie did it and look where he's at.

Mario disrespected Oregon from last years ending and thought he was better than Oregon. Thing is he's not Saban or even close and he's not gonna get it done at Miami because the guy's clearly not Humble or close to it.

Then we have the USC Reggie Bush sanctions that demolished their program. Between the sanctions and Carol leaving USC that really was the kiss of death to the program. USC hasn't recovered from that blow...

Well Dave cheating should always be frowned on. I'm happy this happened to SC as they were way to arrogant and especially as they cheated. Old Oregon staff lets be honest weren't ready for this wave of recruiting coming their way. I mean talk about coddled. payed a ridiculous price and this is before they've ever stepped onto an NFL field or let alone played a down at the next level.
