I think “outsiders” would suggest that Oregon just take solace in winning the North, be content with nine or ten-win seasons, continue smacking around our purple punching bag to the north, and just shut-up and be satisfied with winning our fair share of football games.  Just for fun we’ll throw in the occasional bowl victory here and there.  There ya go, lil’ Fella.

Nah.  We rode in the slow lane long enough.  Sure, we usually reached our destination, but the trips were becoming tedious with little hope of exciting future adventures.  Luckily, the ride wasn’t so long that we started losing passengers.  Duck nation remains strong.

I whole-heartedly agree with Haywarduck’s perspective on success being measured by a process vs. just an outcome.  We’re fortunate in that a winning culture has been established in Eugene and that a complete do-over is not in order to take the next step, but I’ll be watching to see if the required paradigm change can be embraced permitting UO to become elite.

DL sat smack in the center of the mixing bowl that contained all the perfect ingredients to be a world class winner while at GA.  Yes, the 2021 Bulldogs were extremely talented.  But they also were very disciplined and played with a cohesiveness that stemmed from simply caring for one another.  Kirby and his staff cultivated an environment whereupon players seized the responsibility of being accountable for their own actions and for keeping one another in check.  I saw an interview with the tight-knit GA linebacking corps where these guys were able to complete one another’s sentences.  Don’t be fooled into thinking unity (on and off the field) didn’t play a role in GA netting a Natty.

To me a successful season can be measured by a couple things.

First.  How much buy-in does the team have in the ingredients DL brings to Eugene?  If the answer is a lot, we’ll see it in the form of less pre-snap and post-play penalties, better on-the-field communication, and how about just “acting like we’ve been there before.”  Sounds inane but those components can reflect heavily on the scoreboard.  Play for your brother, gentlemen.

Second.  Will the ‘Explosion Plays’ pronouncement come to fruition?  This is what is synonymous with Duck football and what we’re eager to see.  The last couple years the broadcast hype teams have had to feign interest in promoting UO games.  Let’s change that.  I want Oregon football to once again nationally be Must See TV.

I’m not worried about the overall record as the talent on this team will carry them to a respectable record.  Dubs and a rejuvenated atmosphere will accompany ticking the checkboxes of the two things I mentioned.

Georgia  finally got it done with all that top tier talent they had brought in 4 years coming. Bravo for them because I was wondering when they would and low and behold Kirby gets it done finally with who as is DC, why our brand A@M, and still BAMA. Both of them have or are in the TOP 5 in recruiting every year for like the past 4 seasons. 4 star through 4 star and 5 star type players. About who we've brought in by just the transfer Portal is pretty interesting. The DT from the Mutts is a beast. Better right now than any of those DL A@M has.

I see this team hopefully doing even better than anything Mario brought to the table and especially with how he ended last years season which to me is unforgettable. Mario you could say " TANKED " Oregon's season and to me the players did also. A lot of good stuff going on and this young staff looks legit. Good things are going to come and so hopefully that will be as injury free as we can be for the whole season. Oregon I just feel will work the season and win most their games barring again any major injury's. Also it needs to happen now.

Why, because now all bets are off this is easily Semi Pro or whatever you want to call it, it's money is involved now and Tennessee payed a lot for that QB who was apparently at one time wanted to come to Oregon and we all know what they payed him to come there. You could say No Brainer for him on what to do. So to keep up Oregon needs to do whatever it cost's to win it all. That is all I can ask for and hope for now. enough is enough it's time.

The Oregon Ducks are one of the most unpredictable teams in all of college football this season. There are so many questions surrounding the team...

Honestly with this roster being as deep and talented that it is I expect Oregon to play for the PAC 12 Title period. Dan Lanning seems to me with all the moves he's making it's about competition and you play the best you get that 1 spot. So on and so on! This guy get's it and he's taking every advantage this new PIL deal will give him and why the heck not. Lets be honest about the direction CF is now on. Its called the fittest wins and the one who uses everything to their advantage should come out on top. Exciting times in Eugene.

This is not what I ever wanted nor would ever come to this. So I either jump on board for what might be the last few times we actually are privileged to witness Oregon actually get this done. Also one more note as in the Altman teams as well as WBB, WSB, MBB and so on as it's all getting competitive and what more could we ask for?

Yep, Coach Boles and I were discussing it the other day (it was in a John Canzano article) and laughing about how we were all fooled.  I recall a few of us spending time trying to look at how the pictures could relate to something in the offense...and just got nothing.

In fact other teams were using cards, only they actual had code in them!  Some may still have working cards...

A fun time of extreme scoring that might be back with Coach Dillingham?

    Please, please, PLEASE!

    giphy.gif

Yes, yes yes 40+ points a game and a Georgia shut down defense if you please and with the talent and the talent in these coach's I just see this being a real possibility.

Duck recruiting is on a roll of late especially with skill positions on offense.  With the recent commitments of WR’s Kasper and Dickey, along with RB Dowdell, the table setting is nearly complete with two key skill positions to fill.  One is at tight end where all eyes are on Central Catholic’s Riley Williams who reportedly favors the Ducks.

In regards to QB, the timing seems perfect for Jayden Rashada’s visit this weekend.  Rashada is Dennis Dixon 2.0 though I consider him to be more college ready than DD at this point in their careers.  Just a guess on my part but I’d say Texas A&M has a slight lead over the Ducks.  That could well change as Lanning & co. make their pitch this weekend.

First I've heard of A@M leading for this Rashada guy and honestly I don't think Jimbo is that good of a HC anymore and he did it at FSU and look at all the star power they have gotten since he got there and they continue to fall way short with all that talent. I believe Rashada is all Oregon's to lose. Dixon was a 4 star and R is a 5 star so there is a difference yet I do like the comparison. Whoever we get at QB though needs to be legit, ready to play and compete for the starters position. That's the difference when 5 star QBs come to your school.

Honestly I hate SC just a TAD little lower than Purple Puke up North and I mean hate. I don't like the arrogance from them and never have and I never want that team to ever win another or even Sniff a championship ever again.

I just hope Oregon kills it with 2023 class and is the best class in their history yet. So can we go what 5 years running now of winning the recruiting battle with SC. With Riley now there this will speak volumes of how far Oregon indeed has come. It will I believe speak to their doom and Oregon's new winning it all.

No offense SC sucks and I just can't make myself read anything ever about them and also this is a Duck site anyways so thanks but no thanks. Soory I just hate that school.

The only thing I've ever loved from that School was the best Safety ever to play the game and you should know who that was. AKA Ronnie Lott and he played for my favorite team the San Francisco 49ers. It was an amazing time in Niner history and that first year that whole backfield made the Pro Bowl, 3 were Rookies and Hicks came over from somewhere else.

Lott is a Football Great and loved the game as he cut off his pinky toe I believe to keep playing one year or had it amputated so he wouldn't miss any time so that's a Football Freak that unfortunately played at SC. Like I said he was the best.

I would love to see Sewell and Flowe stay healthy this year. Between COVID and injury I feel we missed out on some great football watching them work as a tandem.

Great stuff  and it just seems to happen this way from clear back to when Dixon and Chips offense were killing opposing defenses with the spread he gets injured. We had the talent to win and make the playoff's yet Coaching hampered that. Now we may actually get what weve always wanted a real team on both sides as in maybe dominant.

That will be only if these coaches are as good as we think they are. I honestly don't think there are to many RBs anywhere on the planet that will stop Noah from getting to the QB.

Now it's up to our uber talented DC and uber talented EX DC new HC to make many miss matches they can find and they are there. As for Flowe this guy is Ray Lewis 2 and I seriously hope he has a full season with Sewell to make every QB very uncomfortable and that will lead to many TO's.

NBA franchise promotes Joe Cronin amid uncertainty.

The summer of 2006 was a busy time at One Center Court. The Trail Blazers secured Lamarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy on draft day. They also hired a swath of interns, dispatching them on a variety of tasks.

    Among them, young Joe Cronin.

Cronin was named Portland’s general manager on Tuesday. His “interim” tag was removed and he’ll be the GM of record when the franchise’s Draft Lottery fate is settled next week. Before that, though, Cronin was a basketball operations intern.

After that, he became a scout.

    Then, salary-cap analyst.

    Then, director of player personnel.

Before all that Cronin was a 6-foot-6, moppy-haired former high school basketball player from Colorado. Tuesday was a wonderful day for Cronin and his career path, but he’s not the most influential person in the franchise right now. Neither is All-Star guard Damian Lillard or team president Dwayne Hankins.

    Unfortunately, it’s Bert Kolde.

Paul Allen’s former college roommate is the vice chairman of the franchise. Jody Allen is the trustee of her late brother’s estate. But it’s the Kolde, per insiders, who is steering the organization right now.

I fear none of this will end as it should.

    https%3A%2F%2Fbucketeer-e05bbc84-baa3-43

    A few things:

    • Everyone believes the Trail Blazers are being positioned for a sale in the next 6-18 months. Insiders at Vulcan, Inc. tell me that Kolde has assumed the lead role on this and is carefully studying the ongoing sale of the Denver Broncos.

    • The Trail Blazers own Moda Center but the City of Portland owns the land beneath the arena. The NBA franchise pays the city $1 a year and operates and maintains Memorial Coliseum as part of the arrangement. The sides are currently engaged in discussions about renewing the lease.

    • The Blazers had the sixth-worst record in the NBA last season. They have a 9 percent chance of securing the No. 1 overall pick in the May 17 NBA draft lottery. They desperately need a big break.

The sale of the franchise will be a significant pivot point for the Blazers. The prevailing hope is that Kolde and Jody Allen won’t just sell to the highest bidder, but to a select owner or group that would have local ties and continue Paul Allen’s legacy.

Said one Vulcan, Inc. executive: “Bert doesn’t think like that. He will do whatever he can to get the most money to impress Jody. He’s a major wannabe. Both leagues — the NBA and NFL — view him as a problem.

“The sales process should be more holistic than just who will pay the most. Paul would want the best owner for the city and state and he would take less to make that happen. Bert not so much.”

The Broncos sale could complicate matters and raise expectations to an unrealistic level. The NFL team is currently owned by the Pat Bowlen Trust. Initial estimates were that the Broncos might sell for as much as $4 billion. That figure bloated to $5 billion this week.

Cronin won’t have a say in a potential sale.

Nor will the GM have input into the lease negotiations. I reviewed the document last week and ran it past several legal experts who agreed the lease should be a fairly easy re-negotiation. Both parties should be motivated to get it done. The complexities, however, are rooted in Memorial Coliseum and the master development plan for the area around Moda Center.

    Should Memorial Coliseum be there?

    Or not?

Could it be replaced with a new memorial to honor veterans? Could the lease agreement spark a massive development of the surrounding area? It should. But given the likely franchise sale, I doubt Kolde and Jody Allen are interested in collaborating with the city on a bold development vision for the arena district.

This should be a seminal moment for the city and NBA franchise. The neighborhood around Moda Center could finally be transformed into something amazing. But in order to do that, you need an invested and motivated brain trust.

    Kolde is neither.

    https%3A%2F%2Fbucketeer-e05bbc84-baa3-43

Bert Kolde, left, along with the late Paul Allen.

There are several clauses in the current lease that allow the Trail Blazers to sign a short-term extension and punt the negotiation down the road. The hope here is that the Blazers do exactly that and let whoever buys the NBA franchise negotiate a longer-term agreement.

Moda Center has good bones, a great location and decent aesthetic. It could be a special arena with some improvements. The fan base has been loyal, passionate and deserves it. The franchise is a goldmine with the right ownership.

Cronin was promoted to the permanent GM job on Tuesday. It’s a great story, rising from intern to boss in 16 crazy years. I wasn’t impressed with his work around the NBA trade deadline, but I’m skeptical that Cronin made those moves without Kolde whispering in his ear.

Portland landing No. 1 or No. 2 draft pick in the lottery?

    Yes, please.

But more importantly, the Blazers need new ownership. The franchise also needs a new lease agreement that keeps it in Portland and ensures the development of the arena district. Which is only to say the sooner Bert Kolde is out of the way, the better.

No thanks! Lost interest in the Blazers after Allen bought the team and then went on with the guy next to him sack all the great individuals who did such great work to make the Blazers who and what they were for so long before Allen basically bought them and put this team on the long downward spiral because he was always involved like he knew anything about the sport. Now his equal in ownership his sister who inherited everything is equally worse at this task of making the Blazers respectical.

Allen was the worst owner Portland could have ever gotten because he sucked at it. Just because your a Billionaire doesn't give you the right to bury the franchise that actually brought so much enjoyment to us fans. Now you have these fans that just don't get it and support this team and there losing ways. Its a lose lose situation and the NBA to me should be involved in procuring the right owner and it's to bad Knight wouldn't buy them. Either way the Blazers are losers and who wants to pay for that every year.

I know this sounds crazy yet we are looking at a perfect storm for next season. I truly believe Oregon is hands down the best talent wise, best coaching wise so therefore they should to me win every PAC 12 game. Now if Nix starts throwing interceptions Lanning I'm quite sure wont sit there and watch this offense go down hill extending to a loss. He has two QBs that should be able to come in and generate offense so that part should be interesting.

The Oregon Ducks of Eugene Oregon's quarterback situation is in an intriguing position under brand new head coach Dan Lanning.

Well from the way Bo played in the spring game I'd say it's his to clearly lose! This could be a very good football team if everybody's heads are screwed on right. I want a Ducks team like the old Chip Kelly days where they knew on whatever field they were playing they would come out victorious. I have to laugh on the Ducks Wire site one of the articles talked about how SC and Oregon would benefit if they make the conference championship how the Big 12 or SEC did it but then when I clicked on it there and behold SC site and of coarse you can figure out what they said.

It talked about SC being the best team and they should win the conference next year and I had to seriously laugh and LOL. That team just because they got Okie's QB doesn't mean squat if your not gonna have time to throw the ball. It makes me laugh how SC now has it all because of the " BAILER " left a better team because he was scared of the SEC. Riley isn't whatever everybody thinks he is as if you look at the past he had pretty talented teams but always got beat when it counted most and even in his league. To me Oregon should clearly be the best the PAC has.

For many of us fans of the original Oregon Spread Offense under Coaches Mike Bellotti, Chip Kelly and Mark Helfrich, the excitement is palpable about the...

That is unfortunate about people talking smack about your assumptions with regarding Mario's biased hate for throwing the ball down the field. I appreciate your knowledge of the game and would never say anything to the contrary about your obvious knowledge and I'm sure everybody on here does the same. As far as believing Lanning I believe because he planned the D in that Title game that won the game because lets be honest their QB to me never did install to much confidence behind center.

So to me it was that Defensive game plan that brought back the Title to Georgia not the offense. So I also believe that Lanning is a whole lot smarter than Mario is to letting his coaches do their magic to their specific specialty because he gets the point that it's all the parts that will make this Ducks team succeed and why wouldn't you want your offense scoring boat loads of points if they are indeed capable of suck success. I believe and thank you Mario for the players he did bring in on offense that obviously weren't being used properly.

Also when you recruit top players you need to be true to your word because it wont take long for your word to prove true in the long run. So if Dan the Man does indeed he can bring a Championship to Oregon then he has to bring it on the field to get the best players and the best players want to play with the best opposite them and they want to score points and have that offense " Showcase " their abilities. So I'd believe Mr Lanning Charles because he believe's it.

Seems like the Ducks are thin on the back end of this defense?  Scoop has played well in practice but is one of those guys who can't shake the injury bug.

Well what it tells me about this young man or any other player who transfers out is the coach's know who's gonna play and obviously this guy isn't one of them. One thing to remember is where is the best competition among HS players at? Who do these 4 and 5 star players go to battle against on a regular basis? I mean the talent in Washington is way better than Oregon's HS talent to which I'm not understanding those particulars over the States where these kids play. If were talking about rain well that's one place it rains even more than here.

Back to David is that maybe he's not putting in the time like others are and especially the playbook as I don't care if your a walk on you better know the playbook inside out and that goes for everybody. No excuses remember it started out if you got a Scholarship that meant you got a " FREE RIDE" for 4 years to get a Degree because most these guys aren't gonna play at the NFL level. Now it's just off the charts and I'm just waiting for the NFL to want something done about the type of money being given to these " CF players " because it's BS!

Maybe Mr Cota just needed to get into the true colors he was always meant to wear to display what type of receiver he truly is. From what I understand is he caught some pretty sweet balls that were thrown up and he came down with them. Could be just what the DR ordered for him. I wish him well and at least he didn't go play for Washington.

Yeah no offense but I wouldn't call any of the journalist's at DT experts in players abilities. Its getting to be really irritating how much stuff is put out from these guys now like they really know what their talking about. 247 is a SEC biased place that just thrives to be heard. Now over here I have a totally different feeling with Green and Yellow writers at FD as they all point out what they talk about and they don't seem influenced by EGOTISM. Also talking about Johnson who delivered 4 sacks and like 5 stops behind the LOS are phenomenal.

He then goes on to talk about KT as if he did anything remotely great at any time he played for Oregon as a can't miss player. That's not even remotely true about that cat as his talent should have produced a sack every game and the dude didn't come close or the most important games and they were both Utah games he doesn't even show up and remember people he was getting paid 7 figures and were not talking in the NFL. I have a pretty good feeling about the new staff though and all the players they bring in that they will get the most out of them and expect it.
