Interesting Tez Johnson Combine Comments
Jon Sousa, and 30 Duck, Spot On! In every playoff with a reasonable format since time immemorial, OBD's opponent should not have been sixth ranked TOSU but the winner of the No. 9 ranked Boise State at No. 8 ranked Indiana game. If Indiana had advanced instead of losing at Notre Dame, the B1G would have earned $8M additional dollars. This and Boise State being ranked No. 9 by the committee and 3rd vis the format, is why the Power 2 is pushing for eight assured spots in the field. Thankfully, the current 12-team playoff format is on life support and will be replaced in 2026 by a more sensible format. Scheme versus skill? After the Michigan loss and given another chance, it should be no surprise that the team with the best Blue Chip Roster coming into 2024 won the championship. And the Rose Bowl is not Autzen Stadium, DUH!

Why the B1G and SEC Proposed Playoff Changes Are Good for College Football
As anticipated, No Playoff Format Changes in 2025-26. Payback in 2026-27? College Football Playoff format for next season still in limbo as commissioners punt on making seeding changes SPORTS.YAHOO.COM Playoff executives explored changes to the 2025 postseason Tuesday but came to no decision on a proposal from the Big Ten and SEC to alter the playoff seeding. Why no change to the cocked up seeding format? Here's the long answer, there are too many cooks in the kitchen and only two of them know how to boil water. What is causing delay in College Football Playoff leaders deciding seeding format for 2025 WWW.USATODAY.COM There was no decision on the format for the College Football Playoff in 2025 after a meeting in Dallas. Why the leaders have yet to find solution. "Leaders?' This includes the Commish of the Pac-7 + Gonzo. I rest my case.

The Teams, Coaches, and Players Who Have the Most to Prove Next Season
Thank you, Mr. Smith. As I read this article, it was easy to observe that most of the attention was paid to teams in the B1G and the SEC, with some mention of the ACC, and only three B12 mentions if I recall correctly, two in regards to CU and one making mention of Utah's incoming QB transfer. Yet, ESPN scribes are largely up in arms over the B1G and SEC reportedly asking for four automatic qualifiers each in the 2026 playoff field and thereafter. Follow the Market. Follow the Money. In this day and age of expected roster cuts in football and expected cuts in current varsity sports, the B1G and the SEC would be negligent if they did not push for more money from cash cow football where the conferences have more money invested than other conferences. In any business, the leading companies and not lesser organizations lead. BTW, the scribes are making more money than ever. To help out the B12 and the Pac-7 plus Gonzo, are they willing to take a pay cut? 😁

2025-2026 College Football: Best Returning QBs?

Goofiest Rankings Ever
Thanks, Gat. Connelly noted that returning production does not correlate with season win-loss totals. Bad teams will likely return lots of bad players. I disagree with Connelly's ranking teams with the same percentage of returning players differently. If and when using Bill's returning production numbers, I round up to the highest rated team with the same percentage of returning players. For example, No. 30 Michigan State, and No. 33 Penn State both return 63% of the 2024 roster. I focus on position group returnees for preseason highly-ranked, Blue Chip Roster programs. For example, Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, and Brandon Inniss returning at the wide receiver position at Ohio State, and adding preseason tight end All-American Max Clare from Purdue, gives me less concern over TOSU losing its OC and untested Redshirt Frosh, Julian Sayin, starting at QB. Another B1G example, not only does Penn State return two outstanding running backs, both of whom lit up OBD's D in the B1G champ game, it returns four of the five O-line starters from 2024, two of five were draft-eligible guys, and has added O-line players from the portal to help the cause. Also, this is OC Andy K's 2nd season with the Nits. I appreciate Connolly putting the numbers together but they don't mean much without a more detailed look.

Lanning Pursues National Title In Shadow of Alabama and Georgia Expectations
Thank you, Smitty. It took Saban moving south from Michigan State and a couple of seasons to win a title at LSU, and a few years at the Bama helm to win a title. It took Kirby as noted above, a few seasons to lead UGA to the football promised land. This just in, there are more stud recruits in Alabama, Georgia, and in the Southeast than in Oregon and the Northwest. Yet, Oregon is killing it in recruiting and portal picking under a young, charismatic coach, backed by a top Division Street NIL collective. 13-0 and a B1G conference title in 2024 is amazing. There is more to come, but it is a work in progress, and Eugene, like Athens, and Tuscaloosa, were not built in a Day. It took Ryan Day six seasons to bring a title home to Columbus. The waiting is the hardest part.

Bittle: B1G Player of the Week!
Slightly OT, but Michigan State 58, Maryland 55. Where have all the scorers, besides the NBA, gone? Most things in this world evolve. College basketball missed the memo.

Spring Games and Series Cancellations
In today's mega conferences, the strength of schedule will vary widely. Below is a ranking of the five hardest B1G schedules in 2025. I would have Wisconsin No. 1 and not Rutgers. Regardless, looking at Wisconsin's in-conference schedule, why are the Badgers playing at Bama? I reiterate, in 2027 with Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State on the schedule and six home games, OBD does not need to travel to Waco, Texas to play P4 Baylor. Nothing to be gained with a win and lots of pain with a loss. In today's CFB, top-drawer teams should always play at least seven home games. The 2027 gauntlet is on the AD who went B12 with his time served on the PO committee in Grapevine, Texas. Ranking the 5 toughest Big Ten schedules for the 2025 season SATURDAYBLITZ.COM The 2025 Big Ten football season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive yet, with the expanded conference featuring a mix of powerhouse programs and ri Sigh, Oregon plays Iowa in Iowa City, not in Eugene. This stuff is not that hard to get right.

Spring Games and Series Cancellations
In 2027, OBD plays at Michigan and plays Ohio State and Penn State in Autzen. Oregon only plays six home games in 2027. IMO, Mullens should buy out of the Baylor series and play Portland State and not Tennessee, in Autzen. Play the Vols in a game that will be remembered in the playoff and not in the regular season.
-
Spring Games and Series Cancellations
Tennessee's umbrage over the late cancellation date is understandable, but Nebraska's cancellation of the series is also understandable. In 2023-24, champion Michigan played three G5 teams out-of-conference, all games in Ann Arbor. In 2024-25, champion Ohio State played three G5 teams out-of-conference, all in Columbus. In 2025-26, Penn State will play two G5 teams and an FCS team out-of-conference, all in Happy Valley. In 2024, Tennessee played Chattanooga, Kent State, and UTEP out-of-conference, all in Knoxville. In 2025, Tennessee will play ETSU, UAB, and New Mexico State out-of-conference with all games in Knoxville. In 2024, The Vols also played NC State in Charlotte. In 2025, Tennessee opens against Syracuse in Atlanta. With these two games, the Vols played nine P4 teams in 2024, and with Syracuse in the opener, will play nine P4 teams in 2025. Regardless of the teams Nebraska plays out-of-conference, it will play nine P4 games every season. Regardless of the opponent, Nebraska will sell out every home game. Based on the current playoff format and the vagaries of the playoff committee, why should Nebraska test itself out-of-conference? Ole Miss was supposed to open at USC in 2025, but the teams mutually agreed to cancel the two-game series. Wake Forest after being blasted at home last season by Ole Miss, bought its way out of the return game in Oxford. This infuriated Lane Kiffin. What's good for the goose isn't good for the gander? In 2025, Ole Miss will entertain Georgia State, Tulane, Washington State, and The Citadel. In 2025, Ole Miss will play eight P4 opponents. If Ole Miss goes 9-3, Kiffin will still beef about not making the playoff. I pay no attention to selective umbrage over a team's out-of-conference opponents. If Ohio State played Texas State in 2025 instead of Texas, and if Michigan played Tulsa at home instead of playing at Oklahoma, at 10-2 both teams would be playoff locks. IMO, it's better and smarter to play top competition in your conference and the playoff. Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas, will not receive a penny more in revenue by going large out-of-conference and all four teams sell out every home game no matter the opponent. My Ducks dream out-of-conference schedule season after season: Home vs. Portland State, a G5 opponent not named Boise State in Autzen, and one of Cal or Stanford. Let Iron Sharpen Iron in the postseason.

Pac TV Rumors
Not a good look for the Pac-7 and Gonzo with Fresno State basketball under investigation for gambling; players are accused of point shaving. Texas State. These Bobcats really move the needle, right? 🦨 How about no more games against and helping out self-righteous Oregon State, now litigating to cancel a deal it entered into with the Mountain West in the last year?
