Musgrave has roughly a dozen employers since 1997, his career path is promotion then demotion and nobody has thought he is HC material. Not sure if any of his NFL stops resulted exceptional results and the offense at Cal is pedestrian. He was great as a Duck QB but hasn't shown anything to make me want him on staff. We need an upgrade.

Another voice that wonders if there is an over emphasis on power and mass rather than flexibility. That was a point of emphasis with Jim Radcliff.

Anthony Brown had a QBR rating of 7.7 yesterday not 77 but 7.7. Has Mario explained why he did not replace AB? Can anyone explain why Mario did not replace AB? With Moorhead headed out the door I doubt that he had any input to this decision.
Or perhaps he did and just didn't care, or worse. I haven't seen anything positive from him regarding UO or Eugene. I saw an interview, probably pre-season, where he was asked about living in Eugene and he struggled before finally giving a lukewarm answer. Was the performance last night a proverbial middle finger?

Rather obvious he didn't enjoy his time in Eugene.
"My family and I are very excited for this opportunity," Moorhead said in a statement. "We can't wait to get back to a region of the country we consider home...

Long rumored, now confirmed. His performance last night was pathetic.
Akron: Oregon offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead is expected to accept the head coaching position at Akron today sources have shared with FootballScoop. Pete Thamel has tweeted the same.

mrspenney....the only negative about your posts is that I wish we would see more of them. You have a great perspective of the program, and I always appreciate your "takes" on a topic. Thanks for posting!
Couldn't agree more. Former player I believe, very knowledgeable.

I'm not sure what Sports Pac12 is but, after reading this opinion piece and rooking at their recruiter rankings posted in another thread, it seems more like a click bait site than a legitimate news operation. Andy Avalos as OC is probably a typo that wasn't proofed. They dismiss that of the three coordinators who left two got head coaching jobs. They decry the Akron job as a big step down (it is) but ignore that that at Miss State the local paper reported "His tenure was also marred by scandal". Isn't a lower level job is a path to rehabbing your reputation? As for the Akron salary I believe JM still has at least another years pay from Mississippi so his income won't be affected at all.
Sorry, not impressed.

The acclaimed Donte Williams, located in a recruiting hotbed, is only number 12, just ahead of Andy Ludwig. Which is wrong, the ranking list or Williams reputation?

You could argue that MC correctly preserved JH for the passing game while utilizing AB in the run because of his passing deficiency, but it felt like a waste of Justin’s (until the last two games) Senior year. Whatever the reason, it’s nice to see this change in how MC is using his QB.
Cristobal quote from a 247 article. Seems to have worked for all involved.
“We didn’t run him all year because we thought it was the right thing to do,” Cristobal said. “He came back as a senior and we didn’t want him running around and getting banged up, we wanted to keep him upright for the whole season. But if we got into championship play he was gonna run it, and he did against two unbelievable defenses. He showed his athleticism, his wiggle, his shake, his explosiveness, aside from all the other attributes he has as a quarterback.”
-
He will probably be unemployed soon so I see this as just covering his bases. It would help to know how many other accounts he started following recently.
Although he will be effective wherever he lands I have reservations after hearing a rumor he glossed over vetting Luke Hill, who was subsequently arrested for attempted murder.

When the season started we all knew the team was young. Looking around this site I found Chili Duck's superb depth chart I was stunned to see after injuries we went into the Oregon State contest with only three seniors starting. Less than half the starters are upperclassmen. While the performance on the field is sometimes erratic the future is bright.

Coaching in Oklahoma isn't the same as coaching in LA. He may thrive, but he may also have a hard time controlling the culture at sc.
My thoughts exactly. Roughly 70% of OU's roster is from Texas or Oklahoma where football is a way of life. Completely different story for kids from the LA area.
Also it is reported that Oklahoma was blindsided by his departure, that they had no idea he was negotiating with USC. To me that is sinking into Slick Willie territory.

He's going to need to get it renovated if he wants a place suitable to be called "The Mecca" of college football. Right now it's kind of run down, and it's located in a rather scary neighborhood.
They finished a $315 million renovation in 2019. https://footballstadiumdigest.com/2019/08/los-angeles-memorial-coliseum-renovations-unveiled/

The unknown question is his health. . He spent 5 years years at Akron and he may view it as lower stress.
-
Deep pockets at USC, a private school so contract records are sketchy.
Clay Helton's buyout was reported at roughly $10 million, offset by a $700,000 annually from Georgia Southern.
Todd Orlando's buyout is unknown but he was making $1.7 million at Texas. Figure at least $10 million for the staff.
Lincoln Riley made $7.5 million at OU--you know he got a raise.
$25 million buyout to Oklahoma.
Alex Grinch got $1.4 million at OU, another salary increase plus a buyout to move to LA.
$45-50 million in buyouts, figure another $15-20 million annually for Riley and staff. What are the odds that well heeled boosters will think they have a say in how the football program is run?

Just looked it up. UW is ranked 109 in rushing defense at 192 YPG. Looked a bit further and found Stanford at 127 (241 YPG)!

I think it is more of a question regarding your grand kids and great grand kids life styles?
I'm certain Charles could accomplish that on MC's current salary.

Aside from ego how does a couple million more each year impact your lifestyle? Even if MC has to worst attorney and financial advisor in the world and hasn't structured his contract to help minimize taxes he still nets over $6,000 plus incentives every day of the year, year in and year out. His weekly deposit is more than the average annual paycheck. I couldn't spend that much if I tried and a few thousand $ more each day wouldn't make any difference.

Mario has loyalty, remember he turned down an offer from Rutgers to stay at FIU. While it may be maddening at times (cough, Anthony Brown, cough) in the long run it is an admirable trait and I think Oregon will benefit with him staying in Eugene.

Looking back at the coaching changes the year Mario was elevated to head coach illustrates how difficult getting the right fit can be. I think half of the following list have already been fired and I'm not sure anyone has done a better job than our own MC. A couple "home run" hires are still employed but have very warm seats. Who would you choose given the opportunity?
Arizona Rich Rodriguez Kevin Sumlin
Arizona State Todd Graham Herm Edwards
Arkansas Bret Bielema Chad Morris
Florida Jim McElwain Dan Mullen
Florida State Jimbo Fisher Willie Taggart
Georgia Southern Tyson Summers Chad Lunsford
Kent State Paul Haynes Sean Lewis
Louisiana-Lafayette Mark Hudspeth Billy Napier
Mississippi State Dan Mullen Joe Moorhead
Nebraska Mike Riley Scott Frost
Ole Miss Matt Luke (I) Matt Luke
Oregon Willie Taggart Mario Cristobal
Oregon State Gary Andersen Jonathan Smith
Rice David Bailiff Mike Bloomgren
SMU Chad Morris Sonny Dykes
South Alabama Joey Jones Steve Campbell
Tennessee Butch Jones Jeremy Pruitt
Texas A&M Kevin Sumlin Jimbo Fisher
UCF Scott Frost Josh Heupel
UCLA Jim Mora Chip Kelly
UTEP Sean Kugler Dana Dimel
