There appears to be some evidence the AD had interest in JW as Duck head coach and he decided to stay at Cal -- soon after signing an (at least) $28.5 million dollar six year extension there.

I would suggest that is pretty strong evidence he isn't about to do a complete 180 -- and become a DC here.

Understand the thought though. Oregon's AD wasn't afraid to come up with a pretty sizeable DC salary for Lanning's new staff

According to Football Scoup, 2023's highest paid DC:

    1. Jim Knowles (tOSU): $ 1.9 million

    2. Glenn Schuman (Georgia): $ 1.9 million

    3. Kevin Steele (Alabama): $ 1.9 million

    4. Matt House (LSU):  $ 1.9 million

    5. Pete Kwaitkowski (Texas): $ 1.7 million

    6. Tosh Lupoi (Oregon): $ 1.7 million

    7. Tim Banks (Tennessee): $ 1.5 million

    8. DJ Durkin (Texas A&M): $ 1.5 million

    9. Brad White (Kentucky): $ 1.5 million

    10. Morgan Scalley (Utah): $ 1.4 million

    11. Phil Parker (Iowa): $ 1.3 million

    12. Tony Gipson (NC State): $ 1.25 million

    13. Blake Baker (Missouri): $ 1.1 million

    14. Scottie Hazelton (Michigan State): $ 1.1 million

    15. Adam Fuller (Florida State): $ 1.1 million

    23. Brian Ward (ASU): $ 950,000

    24. Peter Sirmon (Cal): $ 910,000

    30. Trent Bray (OSU): $ 700,000

    34. Johnny Nasen (Arizona): $ 650,000

    36. William Igne/Chuck Morrell (UW): $ 625,000

Looking at this list, most of these DCs are struggling.   College football is an offense advantage sport.  You just have to have key stops and be able to score like hell.  Im fine with our growth.  You arent shutting teams down 80% of the time.  Relax yall.

  2. I think our secondary was fine.. I think it was times TT was just lining up and snapping a tad faster than we were getting our defensive calls in.  I think we gotta be mindful of that going forward.  Like Lanning said, it was a couple of times our DB's panicked and got PI's called.

Im just glad we dont have a key game this week.  Team can settle down and work on execution.  Im worried as hell about our run game now which I thought nobody could shut down for a whole game.  Stein gotta fix that shyt

  3. Listen..wont be no point in playing Oregon St if they get left out the Big12.  2 things...their coach will be auditioning for a new job this year.  No way he stays on the Oregon St titanic. Players will surely hit the portal.  Program in real trouble without the B12 invite...  If they go to the MWC, its gonna be a total rebuild.

I dont know if it will be worth playing them in that scenario

  4. This topic is so underwhelming.  When USC and UCLA bolted, this conference lost significant future value to TV.  I was tired of hearing year after year the PAC was soft yada yada yada.. even tho I didnt think so one bit.

    I say that to say,

I dont care who sabotaged a deal.  Its best for all teams that latched on somewhere else.  sucks for the teams that got left out, but this is the best step going forward for the Pac footballs schools that left.  The money will be greater (eventually for the Ducks) Matchups will be better from a National standpoint.  Recruiting will slightly improve.  Oregon will always be a tough place to get kids to come, but not that tough where we wont see an increase on what is already outstanding.

Pac last season will probably be the best since Ive been an Oregon fan (2007)

From an article in Duckwire (I also saw these numbers somewhere else but I can't find it).

Average viewers per week in 2022:

    Oregon 2.21 M

    Utah 1.16 M

    UW  1.15 M

    WSU 907 K

    Cal 857 K

    Stanford 846 K

    OSU  625 K

    Arizona 506 K

    ASU 314 K

That adds to just under 8.6 M viewers per week.  That doesn't mean 8.6 M would subscribe, but I would...

I, like many would have not subscribed.  I can watch all these games for free on bootleg sites across the internet.  This is 2023.  You can get content for free.  This why a streaming deal wouldnt have worked

  6. I don't know why most of you are dismissing Finebaums opinion...

Oregon needs to leave the Pac by 2025-26.

I live on the east coast and don't follow the Pac beyond football.   So my comments are strictly football related when I say PAC isnt appealing after this year outside of Oregon.  Only way around leaving is to schedule 1 or 2 big name teams for out of conference games.  I'm not talking Texas Tech levels.

Here are two names... I think neither are going anywhere but I would love to see what they could do.

Mark Helfrich: every year we have this discussion when there is an OC spot open. The guy can identify QB talent (Mariota and Herbert) and is a good QB coach when he is focused on that job. See Darron Thomas and Marcus Mariota.

He isn't the strongest recruiter but to be blunt he can build relationships and he doesn't need to be the HC and be in charge of recruiting for the whole operation. That and NIL does change the game a lot with recruiting.

I feel Helfrich is unlikely due to some bad blood with Mullens probably and he seems pretty happy with his current home and work balance.

David Shaw: will he go down a level to an OC position? Unlikely, but he is a smart coach and it would be fun to see what he could do with Oregon's roster. I also think Shaw was beaten down by trying to be competitive at Stanford with both hands and one leg tied behind his back. He might want something "easier" for a few years.

He is much older than Lanning which would also give Lanning some much needed expirence in the room but also Shaw has shown aggressive play calling in the past which does mesh with what Lanning seems to want to do... Stanford of a decade ago would go for 4th and one in a heartbeat and get it.

I think both of these coaches are solid picks... But I don't think either would get an interview to be honest.

    Helfrich?  lol  Shaw?

U see how the avg college offense is today??  lol

They are dinosaurs.  We would be looking at trying to get 28 points every week

  8. Too much Lanning hammering.  Yeah, some moves were bold..  Ill take it for the most part.  One thing I dont want coach Lanning to do is second guess himself next year.  If he feels a 4th down is worth going for, go...  After enduring Cristobal, Im glad we have Lanning.

This team wasnt a playoff team..  it has holes.  Compare Georgia D line to this one.  Im confident he will transform the trenches

Good luck to Dilly.. hate he is leaving, butbhe sure restored the offensive feeling.  Bo getting hurt changed the way we could attack teams
