  2. It's really hard to say. Everyone seems to be chasing the money right now. The west coast pod of USC, UCLA, Stan, Cal, OR, UW in the B1G would probably be the best for scheduling but I think there's going to be a lot of ruckus from OSU and WSU about being left behind.
  3. Like McDuck said, we likely won't know until much later after the report has been read by the Regents and other decisionmakers. It does look like an uphill battle to get UCLA to stay in the Pac-12, though.
  4. Per the article, high school football players start thinking seriously about where they want to play by about 8th grade. Ducks are often mentioned as a dream school and the advertising, branding, and not least of all, winning, apparently plays a huge part in the process. We're at 9th, one rank ahead of Mari and Miami. High school players see Oregon as a Top 10 program in brand strength DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Fox Sports polled 1,000 high school players on who is in the top 25 in terms of brand strength with the Ducks landing in the Top 10.

Looks like the UC Regents commissioned a report due out later in August. The upcoming report is "intended to examine what effect the university's decision will have on its student-athletes and other California colleges — namely UC Berkeley(.)" 14. I totally agree that East to West travel is much easier. I've gone from Hawaii to the East Coast and back many times for work and west to east (with a 6-hour time difference) is very rough. Not only do you have a long plane ride(s) with possible layovers, you have an earlier and shorter day to get a good night's sleep. Especially for student-athletes coming from balmy southern California, the November and December games in the Midwest are going to be freezing. The occasional game isn't too bad but when you're talking about multiple league games .... Source: My own personal experience of flying from Hawaii to DC and taking an military PT test at midnight my time in December snow. The temperature difference was about 70 degrees. Needless to say, I didn't perform my best.

  17. I imagine that the non-revenue and Olympic sports are going to be hit hardest by the jump. I travel a lot for work now and the time zone changes are tough on the body, 3-4 hour time differences. Non-revenue sports likely won't be traveling by charter airplane but via commercial which may affect their travel plans. For instance, rather than having direct flights from campus to the B1G school, they may have a few connecting flights and/or charter buses, or have to come in a day or two early, or at night. I can't imagine the travel schedule is going to help these athletes perform their best or allow them to be 'student-athletes'. This is a money grab, pure and simple. I feel for the athletes and their parents.

Per the article, there are many moving parts in this realignment and it depends on the outcome of Big 10 and Pac-12 media negotiations, among others. 22. Sorry to hear Mrs. Fishduck got it - my family got over it a few weeks ago. My son brought it home from daycare and inevitably all of us got sick, though not too bad as my husband and I are double boosted. Hope all who have the 'VID recover quickly!
  23. My understanding is that the Board of Regents can't force UCLA to stay in the Pac-12 because a 1991 UC Office of the President policy delegated authority to the individual UC campus chancellors to negotiate their own agreements, including intercollegiate agreements. See DA1058. https://policy.ucop.edu/_files/da/da1058.html "Delegation of Authority--Execution of Agreements The authority granted to the President under Section 100.4(dd) of the Standing Orders of The Regents is delegated to you, within your areas of jurisdiction, as it pertains to the execution of the various service agreements required with outside organizations, agencies, and individuals to implement approved programs and activities[.]" . . . "This delegation to negotiate and execute service agreements includes, but is not limited to, the following types of agreements:. . . . Intercollegiate athletic agreements (except coaching contracts)." Seems like the Board of Regents may try and require UCLA to pay an exit fee or to subsidize the Cal Athletic Dept. I'm not clear if the Board has the authority to require that, though.
  24. Gavin Newsom says UCLA ‘must clearly explain to the public’ why move to the Big Ten is beneficial WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM The UC Regents met Wednesday, but no... Newsom wants UCLA to explain how its Pac-12 exit will benefit all student-athletes and honor its partnership with UC Berkeley, which now braces for a big financial hit.
