  1. We hadn't had a chance to visit Hayward Field. What an outstanding facility. After 27 years season ticket holder I think I deserve those cushy seats with cup holders at Autzen. Hayward Hall is a dedication to Pre, Hayward, Bowerman, Dillinger and all the champions in Track and Field.

We had dinner at The Wild Goat, smoked prime rib night, pretty, pretty good. As we crossed Franklin headed to Hayward we encountered thousands of students headed north towards the Riverfront. We wondered were they were going. Here's the answer:

    5336 Freshmen.

Any guesses on how full Autzen gets this coming weekend?  75%?

The Faithful will show up just to see OBD beat the Tree. Students are back in school and will be rowdy having all day to party. We will miss some Portlanders not wanting to travel late at night.

Last week was announced a sell out at 54,000+. Kelly's teams would sell standing room only with 60,000+.

  3. I am a man of few words and concise thoughts. Yesterday in a fit of disappointment I simply posted "BO PIX". This morning after reflecting on Bo's 468 yrd performance in the winning effort at the Palouse, I hereby rescind any derogatory inference in that post. I pledge to not deride Bo as long as he never throws more than one interception in any game for the remainder of his career at Oregon.

  4. One of my favorite moments in Autzen was at the 1990 BYU game. Ty Detmer on his successful Heisman campaign was sacked in the East end zone, where I was sitting. Two Duck fanatic's jumped over the wall and unfurled a sheet that was appropriately tie dyed with the lettering "TY DIED IN EUGENE OREGON".

    Let's do it again.

  5. The only time I parked on campus, my buddy's wife worked there and had a lifetime parking pass. Not  bad hike. There is a new parking garage close to the foot bridge. I imagine it will fill up early. LTD used to run shuttles, I think the UofO took over that service and uses school buses. They haven't posted the schedule for this year, but if they follow past years they will have parking at Valley River, Gateway area and Springfield.

If you're an early morning person (after pub hopping at all the places you listed), park at Valley River, eat breakfast at Elmer's and catch the shuttle or better yet, walk along the river. It's about the same distance as walking from campus.

  6. We've had OBD season tickets since the '95 Rose Bowl, have only missed two home games in that time and have had the opportunity to visit the Beav's and fuskey's. We made a pact with our football buddy couple to try and visit the other Pac 12 stadiums. Road trips to Utah, Pullman and Cal joined previous stops at the Rose Bowl, Coliseum and Tucson. As retirement and the pandemic arrived it left Tempe, Colorado and Stanford on the bucket list.  Fixed income and rising expenses along with the collapse or expansion of the Pac 12 renders this list unobtainable at this point.

I'm thinking a sunny beach with a margarita in my hand is a lot more enticing than a frozen stadium in the Big10.

  7. Google maps is your friend. You list Alesong and Tap and Growler, they are in the 5th Street Market complex. A dozen restaurants in two blocks. Wine tasting, distillery, ice cream, Gordon Tavern in namesake Hotel with Mex & margaritas on the top floor. Walk a few blocks over to Willamette and Broadway for VooDoo donuts and another 12 nightclubs. Younger crowd, bring an open mind. Ten blocks south on Willamette St( you will pass Claim 52 and falling Sky on 11th)  to Beer Stein, catty corner is Mac's, top blues venue with a live band on the lawn. The Whitaker neighborhood has many of the other breweries you listed. Not a bad place on your list.

In your spare time head over to Springfield, 4th & Main. Planktown Brewing, Brass Monkey Tiki Bar, a half dozen restaurants, then walk over to Public House Hub, a few more restaurants, tap house and a hard liquor bar in a repurposed church with stain glass windows.
