  4. Friedlander: ACC adding Cal, Stanford makes no sense. But what does in college athletics these days? It makes no sense. Absolutely none at all. Then again, what does these days when it comes to college athletics and the misalignment of its conferences? Pac-12 stragglers Stanford and California have about as much place in the ACC as pineapples or broccoli have on pizza. But here we are. Early Friday morning, the league’s presidents and chancellors voted to extend invitations to the Cardinal and Bears, along with fellow outlier SMU, effectively transforming the Atlantic Coast Conference into a Bi-Coastal Conference. The schools accepted the invitation soon after. Friedlander: ACC adding Cal, Stanford makes no sense. But what does in college athletics these days? SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM Adding Stanford, Cal and SMU, is a short-term money grab that will do little to narrow the ACC's revenue gap with the SEC and Big Ten.

  9. And Then There Were 2: Stanford and California to Leave Pac-12 for ACC It was reported by multiple outlets on Friday morning that the ACC officially voted to extend invitations to the Stanford Cardinal, California Golden Bears, and SMU Mustangs for the start of the 2024 season. This means that over the past month, eight of the 10 remaining Pac-12 teams have decided to jump ship and search for greener grass. What comes next for the Beavers and Cougars is unclear, but a move to the Mountain West seems to be the best option, unfortunately. Pac-12 Football: Stanford and California to leave Pac-12 for ACC DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Stanford and Cal are joining the Atlantic Coast Conference. Oregon State and Washington State are homeless. College football makes zero sense.

  14. Sallee at CBS got this right about Oregon. The Pac-12 media people, especially Jon Wilner and the AP pollsters were, evidently, lazy doing in their homework. If they were thorough they would see what Josh Pate, Justin Hopkins and Barrett Sallee sees. Oregon: It seems like the college football world forgot that, up until quarterback Bo Nix' injury, the Ducks were squarely in the Pac-12 title mix. Why would that change this year? It shouldn't. Nix is back, the running back corps is fantastic, and coach Dan Lanning has built the Ducks like an SEC team on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. All their defense has to be is adequate, and the Nix-run offense will take it from there. It's Oregon, not USC, that is the true playoff contender out West. -- Sallee
  15. I agree. Never understood Stanford Cardinals using a tree as a mascot. So odd. Everyone knows the Oregon Duck. It is one of the most fun and recognizable mascots in sports. 17. This article is RIGHT ON!! What great timing. This Advertisement is meant beyond this season. It's a send off of Oregon's debuting into the BIG conference. Like they said "at a global level." What a great tool for recruiting with the buzz it created. Excerpt from Nix: “It’s a lot bigger than me,” Nix said. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. It speaks to the university. You know, it speaks to the football program. It speaks to you know, how prestigious it is to go to a place like Oregon and how, you know, one time you’re on one side, and then you get to a school like Oregon and all of a sudden how things can change and how your story can change. And so I’m just blessed.” Just that alone will bring attention to future recruiting! Hmm, maybe put a billboard up smack dab in the LA area? New York (covers the eastern sea board of states, Dallas (Texas) and LA (Southern California). The perfect trifecta. Go Ducks!!
  18. PD posted this in a different post, but wanted to add it in here as well. Josh Pate is High on Oregon's OL as well as DL. He is high on Ducks period! As we all know, the AP got it so wrong about our Ducks. He politely said "this is why I differ from the AP." Talented experience OL, 8 deep.

  20. Sources: ACC ramps up talks for adding Cal, Stanford, SMU ESPN could pay ACC $72 million more if conference adds three teams Two of the three expansion targets, Stanford, the bell-cow of the group, and Cal, are proposing to take a significantly reduced revenue distribution for multiple years, starting at about 30%. SMU is proposing to take no distribution for as many as seven years, something Yahoo Sports reported more than a week ago. Options range from adding all three, adding only Stanford and Cal, adding only SMU or adding none of them. 24. Josh Pate is high on Oregon at number 5 nationally. He sees what Oregon has this year. Josh Pate comes from SEC country. Yes, I went back and re-read Fish Duck articles showing the dynamics of this year's defensive side, with the talent positionally Lanning brought in. We will see the trickle down effect that will strengthened across every positional group on the field. We saw a glimpse in the Spring game. Not only Oregon's returning some talented/experience players, but also brought in top talent players with experience through the transfer portal, giving us 8 deep on the front line. With one of the top QBs in the country along with one of the most talented running back and receiver corps as well, wow! He is also bringing improvements on special teams as well. Special teams was made a priority this year. We only lost by 7 total points in those games against Washington and OSU, with a defense lacking with the right positional players and an injured Nix. Yes, one bad coaching call. But, thinking about the talented improvements/depth brought in this year's team, makes me dream of a Pac-12 championship and a CFP invite! Joe Lorig discusses special teams improvement, and Oregon's increased presence at the nickel Oregon Football: Joe Lorig talks special teams improvement for Ducks DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Joe Lorig discussed the need to improve on special teams, and how UO’s nickel spot is shaping up. Are Ducks a top-5 team in 2023? One CFB analyst thinks so Oregon Football: Ducks pegged as top-5 team by CFB analyst DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM One popular college football analyst has the Ducks ranked as a top-5 team going into the 2023 season. From Justin Hopkins: He sees it as well. Well if I haven’t gone full-homer by now I might as well leave no doubt. Look, Oregon is as good as any team in the top ten not named Georgia. But they will only go as far as the defense will take them. I think it will be better. And they have the bodies and depth to be physical at the point of attack. And while nobody has a JV schedule like Georgia, but Oregon’s a bit more favorable with 2 of its 4 toughest games at home. (USC and OSU) Overrated/Underrated: Pac-12 Edition - On3 WWW.ON3.COM The AP and coaches polls have five Pac-12 teams ranked in the top 20. Here is my take on which are underrated and overrated.
