Explaining Why Oregon Will Always Remain a Big-Name Brand in College Football
“Oregon is such a unique program,” Russo told Staples. “I use that word like I think I think definitionally correct, right? I don’t think Oregon has another true comp in that it was a program for years and years with zero — like Oregon had no history. … They just didn’t have a whole lot of nationally significant victories and success on a national level. And then all of a sudden they become a rocket ship, where they are now a national program that plays for big national championships. Not just championships but in big, national things, right? "I think that's happened now long enough that they have established essentially we're looking at 30 years of this at Oregon....We have an entire generation or so of college football fans that have grown up with Oregon being a big thing. So I think that lasts. There's a tail on that nd that will linger on for probably another 20 or 30 years, even if Oregon were to hit the skids a bit." Rece Davis Shakes Up College Football With Radical 16-Team Playoff Vision – Championship Landscape Set for Dramatic Expansion! “Since we have expanded beyond the very small playoff, I would prefer just going ahead and going to 16, playing the first two rounds on campus, and eliminating conference championship games,” Davis said. “Now, along with that, each of these mega conferences — and the others too, if they wanted to — would play 10-game schedules in-conference and then not required but strongly encouraged to play another power team from the outside. Whether that’s crossover SEC/Big Ten or ACC, Big 12, whatever. You can play two if you want to, but definitely play at least one of your non-conference games like that.” Rece Davis Shakes Up College Football With Radical 16-Team Playoff Vision – Championship Landscape Set for Dramatic Expansion! FANRECAP.COM The 12-team College Football Playoff will officially begin this upcoming season, and discussions on expanding beyond twelve teams have already begun. Report: College Football Playoff weighing new revenue model that would favor Big Ten, SEC The Big Ten and SEC are continuing to push to elevate themselves above the rest of the leagues in College Football Playoff format negotiations. The latest turn, according toYahoo Sports‘ Ross Dellenger, is a push to get a bigger stake in the revenue. The Big Ten and SEC are reportedly seeking to split 58% of the base revenue, while the Big 12 and ACC would be given 32% to share. That leaves 10% left for Notre Dame and the rest of the conferences. Under current CFP models, the Power 5 — soon four — conferences shares 80% of the base revenue relatively evenly. In the new financial distribution, Dellenger estimated that the Big Ten and SEC would make something in the ballpark of $750 million combined annually, with around $450 million for the Big 12 and ACC and around $115 million for Notre Dame and the remaining teams. The four-team CFP paid out around $460 million, annually, in total across all the leagues. With a new, 12-team model set to pay out $1.3 billion from ESPN for the broadcast rights, leagues and teams would still likely end up making much more in revenue, even if it’s a smaller proportion. Five under-the-radar Ducks who could have big springs Here are five Ducks who most fans aren't talking about who could use spring as a springboard to a bigger role in fall. Spring football opens in less than a week. Each year I like to identify a handful of players who I believe are outside of the realm of most average Duck football conversations but who I believe are capable of entering them with a strong spring and subsequent offseason. I'm choosing from players who have yet to become regular starters during their college careers. For some that seems unlikely to change in 2024, but my sense is that these five are each capable of becoming much more widely known. I am not considering any newcomers for this exercise, as the focus is on players who have been on the team, but have yet to really pop. Spring Position Preview: Brings New Look, High Ceiling into 2024 Season
Projecting the Ducks' offensive depth chart ahead of Oregon's spring season The Oregon Ducks are less than a week away from getting their spring season off and running, with the first practice of the year taking place on Thursday, March 14. There is a bit more anticipation for this spring season than we’ve seen in a few years, largely because of the sheer number of new players on the roster, both coming to Eugene via the transfer portal and as incoming high school recruits. While a lot of the attention early on is going to be focused on Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore, it will be important to watch as the roster takes shape across the entire offense with the Ducks preparing for their first season in the Big Ten Conference, vying for a spot in the newly expanded College Football Playoff. Over the last week, we’ve started our position breakdowns for the Oregon roster, and now we want to wrap things up with a projection of what the 2-deep depth chart will look like for the Ducks this spring. We will revisit this after Oregon wraps up the spring season with the Spring Game at the end of April. College Football Fans Debating 'Perfect' Conferences List
Not all fans agree with Josh Pate's perfect conferences. When it comes to college sports, many fans say they've been put off by the massive amounts of college realignment in recent years. Geographical affiliation and travel no longer seems to be a concern, as schools from California and Texas are set to join the ACC. Former Pac-12 teams will head to the Big Ten, and the SEC is adding a team that is not in the South nor in the Eastern part of the United States. One college football commentator has attempted to solve the problem by putting together a list of what he feels would be the "perfect" conferences. CBS Sports' Josh Pate put together seven conferences and a list of independents, and college football fans are debating whether his choices were correct. https://thespun.com/college-football/college-football-fans-debating-perfect-conferences-list

Why is Oregon Called the Ducks? And Why are they Green and Yellow?
Find out why the lovable Oregon Ducks' mascot is who he is and why he dons green & yellow every Saturday in the fall. Oregon's state flower is the wild grape which blooms beautiful yellow flowers every spring. In 1893, UO students voted to adopt the flower's yellow as their school color. Believe it or not, with how often the team wears the color, green was never officially voted in as one of Oregon's school colors. However, it has been used so frequently alongside the yellow that it has nearly become the primary color for the Ducks. Why is Oregon called the Ducks? And why are they green and yellow? AUTZENZOO.COM Find out why the lovable Oregon Ducks' mascot is who he is and why he dons green & yellow every Saturday in the fall. As sportswriters proliferated the name it became codified in both local and national consciousness as synonymous with Oregon’s teams. This de facto status as the University of Oregon’s mascot led athletic director Leo Harris to seek out an official representation of a duck for the school. That desire led to the handshake deal in 1947 between Harris and Walt Disney which linked UO to Donald Duck. The informal arrangement allowed Oregon to use Donald’s likeness for its mascot for free as long as it was used in a reputable manner. The cartoon mogul’s studio produced several versions of Donald for the school over the next two decades, until Disney’s death in 1966 led his estate and the school to realize the lack of any formal contract. Over the next seven years, the two parties worked to create a written agreement outlining the terms of Donald’s continued use as Oregon’s official duck representative. Donald would slowly evolve into the webfooted mascot that currently patrols Autzen Stadium, Hayward Field, and Matthew Knight Arena. After the agreement with Disney, early attempts were made to create a Donald costume to serve as the team’s mascot at games and university events.

Is Dan Lanning Being Underrated as a Head Coach Going into 2024?
Earlier this week, The Athletic came out with their annual head coaching rankings for college football, ordering who they believe are the best 25 guys in the nation going into the new season. The rankings were released by well-respected journalists Stewart Mandel and Bruce Feldman. Surely, Dan Lanning, the rising coaching star who was considered one of the top names to take over for Nick Saban at Alabama this past year, would be ranked prominently, right? He’s 22-5 in his two years leading the Oregon Ducks, with a pair of top-10 recruiting classes and a handful of dominant wins in his short career as a head coach. Is Dan Lanning being underrated as a head coach going into 2024? DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning is not viewed as a top-25 coach in 2024 per the latest rankings from The Athletic.
