  1. Three takeaways from Oregon's sloppy-yet-emphatic win over Cal Oregon continued its post-Washington run of blowouts on Saturday with a 63-19 win over Cal. The sixth-ranked Ducks scored 35 in the first half. Quarterback Bo Nix got an early curtain call. In just about every way, Oregon completely dominated its opponent once again. After a comfortable win over Washington State and then a demolition of Utah last week, it’s hard to argue four teams are playing better football than Oregon right now. Oregon moved to 8-1 with the victory. Cal dropped to 3-6. Here are three takeaways from the game. 9. 5-star LB Jonah Williams puts Oregon Ducks among top schools The Oregon Ducks have been finding a ton of success on the field this season, and they’re turning that into success on the recruiting trail. After picking up commitments from a pair of 5-star defensive linemen — Ayden Breland and Elijah Rushing — over the past month, Dan Lanning and the Ducks are now in a great position to potentially land another 5-star player in the 2025 class as well. On Wednesday, 2025 5-star Jonah Williams announced his top 12 schools, with the Ducks firmly in the mix. Williams plays a mix of safety and linebacker in Texas, standing at 6-foot-3, and 205 pounds. 10. Urban Meyer circles Oregon as the team that could make the most noise in November In the eyes of the College Football Playoff committee, Oregon is currently the best one-loss team in the country. Dan Lanning‘s team has only lost to Washington on the road and has been beating up on every other team on their schedule. Debuting in the ranking at No. 6, only undefeated are ahead of the Ducks. At least to Urban Meyer, Oregon is way better than the No. 6 team in the country. Of course, the loss is going to knock them down in the rankings. It’s how the College Football Playoff works, especially this early in the cycle. However, when looking at the tape, you would have a tough time convincing Meyer that anybody is playing better at the moment other than Oregon. “Oregon might be the best team in the country,” Meyer said via Urban’s Take with On3’s Tim May. “Just on videotape. Offense, defense, kicking. That’s the way they play. They play really hard, they’re really well coached but they lost. So, I’m a head coach, going to say ‘Just don’t lose because we have a great team. But you did lose.’ “On video tape, Oregon might be the best team in the country.” Urban Meyer circles Oregon as the team that could make the most noise in November WWW.ON3.COM .

  15. College football bowl projections: Oregon supplants Washington in playoff field Doing bowl projections is easy when the four teams in the College Football Playoff all win on Saturday. This, however, is not a normal week because there is going to be a change among the top four. Oregon is moving up and replacing Washington as the fourth member of the semifinal field. The change might raise some eyebrows as the Huskies defeated the Ducks earlier this month and are still unbeaten. But after two lackluster performances by Washington against Arizona State and Stanford - the two worst teams in the Pac-12 - the expectation is that a likely rematch in the conference title game will go a different way. The change is all about the Huskies. Oregon looked dominant in its thrashing of Utah last week, and only home games against Southern California and Oregon State appear to be possible obstacles to reaching the Pac-12 title game with one loss. Another result working in the Ducks' favor was Oklahoma's loss to Kansas that ensures no team in the Big 12 will finish unbeaten. That means a one-loss champion from the Pac-12 should be in the field, given the overall strength of the league this season. College football bowl projections: Oregon supplants Washington in playoff field WWW.USATODAY.COM None of the teams projected to be in the College Football Playoff last week lost. However, there is a major change with Oregon passing Washington.

  22. There were about two hours remaining until kickoff on Saturday in Salt Lake City. It was a bright and sunny morning, but the air was still crisp and cool in Rice-Eccles Stadium. While event staff milled about, preparing for a top-15 matchup between the Oregon Ducks and Utah Utes, Dan Lanning walked alone up and down the home team’s sideline. Still wearing the dark-blue sports jacket he donned on ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ a couple of hours prior, the 37-year-old head coach was subdued. Ahead of him was among the biggest tests of his young head coaching career; a road matchup against a ranked opponent in a brutal environment — the type of game that Lanning has yet to win in his two years with the Ducks. After his quick field walk, Lanning went back into the locker room with his team. It would be several hours until he would walk back into that locker room again, high-fiving the Oregon faithful while carrying the biggest win of his coaching career in hand. 35-6 was the final score. It was a total annihilation, one that Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said was far more lopsided than the scoreboard would suggest. 35-6 was the final score, though Whittingham thinks even that is underselling the Oregon dominance. “The score wasn’t indicative – the game was a mismatch. It was worse than what the score indicated.” Column: Dan Lanning's vision is coming together in Eugene, earlier than some expected DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Dan Lanning and the Ducks are approaching their ceiling quicker than many expected them to in Eugene.
