How to Fix the College Football Playoff: Format, Schedule Changes Necessary with Expansion on the Horizon
🤔 Tom Fornelli's complete guide to ensuring the best college football product as changes loom ahead of the 2026 season Change is coming to the College Football Playoff. We don't know what the format will look like in 2026 after the Big Ten and SEC gain control over it, but we know it won't look like the version we saw in 2024. That format didn't even last a year, as the powers that be saw the flaws in it and -- rightfully -- made the correct change in going to straight seeds. It was a refreshing breath of fresh air to see swift and productive change. It's also not something I'm counting on becoming the norm. So while The Powers That Be continue to meet over steak dinners in the coming months to hammer out a format, I've decided to gently nudge them in the direction they need to go. Put the company credit cards away, boys, because Tom has all the answers you need How to fix the College Football Playoff: Format, schedule changes necessary with expansion on the horizon - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Tom Fornelli's complete guide to ensuring the best college football product as changes loom ahead of the 2026 season

In the midst of uncertainty, Gary Bryant’s experience stands out Evan Stewart’s injury has added to the growing uncertainty of the wide receiver depth chart this offseason. While Dakorien Moore is expected to follow in the footsteps of standout true freshmen like Ryan Williams and Jeremiah Smith before him, Oregon’s wide receiver room remains full of questions due to its youth and lack of starting experience. Plenty of names have been mentioned as potential candidates to step up in Evan Stewart’s absence—Jurrion Dickey, Malik Benson, Jeremiah McClellan, among others. But what if the answer is the veteran in the room? What if it’s Gary Bryant Jr.? Oregon football extends new offer to 2026 Boise State QB commit The Oregon Ducks extended an intriguing scholarship offer on Wednesday, reaching out to 3-star quarterback Bryson Beaver, from Murrieta, California. He stands at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. This offer is worth noting because of where the Ducks currently stand in the quarterback recruiting landscape. Earlier this spring, they lost the Jared Curtis sweepstakes, with the 5-star passer committing to the Georgia Bulldogs. They are currently projected to land 5-star QB Ryder Lyons, but there has been some buzz recently that the BYU Cougars are willing to pay him inordinate sums of money to get him to commit. If that is the case, then the Ducks' offering another QB in the class makes a bit of sense. Regardless, they still could feel good about where they stand with Lyons but are just covering their bases with another talented and rising QB prospect. NCAA Hints at ‘Positive Momentum' Towards Men's Basketball Moving to Quarters from Halves?
Buried deep inside a Tuesday press release announcing major changes to “help enhance the flow of the game” in men’s college basketball was a hint at an even more significant change to the game. Last month, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee proposed the creation of a joint working group to gather feedback for potentially moving from halves to quarters. Since then, the NCAA revealed there’s been “positive momentum” toward the move to quarters, and the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel further recommended Division I conferences actually develop a working group to provide further feedback on the option. Men’s college basketball is the only division of the sport that utilizes halves as opposed to quarters. Women’s college basketball has utilized quarters since the 2015-16 season. Oregon's Quarterback Recruiting: Panic or Patience?
It seems that Lyons has cancelled his trip to USC. Oregon and BYU is in the mix. Hopefully will go Oregon’s way. You are right, he will be more for the 2027 cycle once he returns from his LDS mission trip. From what all is reporting USC seems to be out of the picture. Lyons cancelled his trip to USC. My concern is BYU. "While USC had the inside track to Lyons signature early in his recruitment, the Trojans have since fizzled out. Joel Klatt names surprise team as Penn State's most important game this season “If Penn State loses that game [at home versus Oregon], all anyone is going to be talking about is that James Franklin can’t win these games, because that’s the slow-boiling narrative going into the season,” Klatt said. “… He’s got to win that game. “If you don’t beat Oregon, at home, in the White Out, you’re like ‘Oh no, is this going to work?’ Again, it’s time. You don’t want to put that on your shoulders in November in the ‘Shoe at Ohio State.” Klatt also talked about how the talent disparity is razor thin between these teams, and highlighted the strong, veteran group of Nittany Lions returners that should give Franklin a good chance of earning a marquee victory over the Ducks. Joel Klatt names surprise team as Penn State's most important game this season WWW.SPORTINGNEWS.COM Why Fox Sports' Joel Klatt believes Oregon, not Ohio State, is the most crucial must-win game of the season for James Franklin and Penn State.
