While Montana State may not compete in the FBS alongside programs like Oregon and 135 others, that doesn't mean they aren't talented and capable of giving the Ducks a test. According to Bill Connelly's SP+ rankings on ESPN, which combine all FBS and FCS teams into one massive scale, Montana State would be the 80th-best team in the nation. Comparatively, the Oregon State Beavers are No. 75, and the Stanford Cardinal are No. 84. Five Montana State Bobcats who Oregon Duck fans should know before Week 1

Why hostile environments don't scare the DucksIn year one Oregon showed something crucial about the program's approach to iconic Big Ten environments and intimidating home field traditions. They embrace them. They turn them around. The Ducks create their own juice. Disagree with ESPN, but go ahead, keep disrespecting Oregon. The team will be better because of it. What ESPN experts are saying about Dante Moore and the Big Ten's best quarterbacksESPN ranked the top quarterbacks in each conference ahead of Saturday's Week One slate of games, and Oregon's Dante Moore gets a tepid evaluation. An anonymous Big Ten coach told the website, "Dante is pro-style. If Dante ran a 40, he'd run a 4.9." Cam Ward, the first quarterback taken in the NFL draft, ran a 4.87. Jaxson Dart didn't run one at all. Besides that, Moore worked on his speed over the offseason. He reached 21.5 miles per hour on the GPS in summer testing. Asked about Moore, Dan Lanning told ESPN's Adam Rittenberg, "I see the arm talent, the ability to operate, very similar to what Bo [Nix] and Dillon had. He can check plays. He's probably more similar to Dillon from a pocket presence standpoint, but more similar to Bo in the ability to really put us in really advantageous plays." Oregon Ducks Practice Reports Updates, Etc. “2025” (7)
The Oregon Ducks' 2025 campaign is finally here. At kickoff on Aug. 30 at 1:00 p.m., nearly nine months will have passed since the Ducks fell to Ohio State in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff. The opponent will be the Montana State Bobcats, a team that the Ducks have rarely played in program history. Just once, in fact, with that game coming all the way back on Sept. 20, 1947 — a mere 78 years ago and just years after the conclusion of World War II. New quarterback visitor Dane Weber intrigues Ducks with accuracy, leadershipOregon only has two visitors scheduled for the opener against Montana State, high school teammates Dane Weber and Eli Woodward of Chaparral High School in Temecula, California. A 2027 quarterback ranked No. 292 in the class by the 247Sports Composite and the No. 21 quarterback, Weber threw for 2,660 yards as a sophomore last season, 27 touchdowns, rushing for 834 more yards and 11 TDs. Against Norco in November, Troy and Travis Dye's old school, Weber threw for 277 yards and six touchdowns to win 48-37. Oregon - Montana State Pre-Game Reports, Interviews, Etc.
Max Torres: Oregon forces multiple fumblesI know this Montana State offense loves to run the ball. The Ducks did a good job defending the run last year, and while this is a new defensive line under Tony Tuioti, I’m very high on this group heading into the season. I think we’ll see the Oregon defense jar the ball loose a few times on Saturday. Whether it’s someone like Matayo Uiagalelei, Blake Purchase, A’Mauri Washington or Bryce Boettcher, the playmakers will step up and the defense will be disruptive. Corpatty: New Oregon Wide Receivers Step UpWith Tez Johnson, Traeshon Holden, and TFerg gone — plus Evan Stewart sidelined with injury — Oregon will be relying on new and inexperienced wideouts. I expect them to answer the call in Week 1, with receivers hauling in three touchdowns in the opener. Brandon Gibson: Oregon Stops Rushing AttackOregon’s defense shuts down the vaunted Montana State rushing attack. The Bobcats have one of the best rushing games in the FCS and had three players, two running backs and the quarterback, each reach the thousand yard mark in the 2024 season. Despite some departures, running is Montana State’s identity and Saturday will be the day that Oregon’s talented and fast defense will hold that running game largely in check. In 2024, Oregon’s defense held opponents to 130 yards rushing a game, good for 38th in the nation. This new edition will be afforded an opportunity against a strong ground game to show whether the Ducks are ready to improve on those numbers in 2025. Ted Leroux: Purchase Shines in OpenerI’ve been high on Blake Purchase coming into this season, and after Saturday’s game, it wouldn’t be surprising if he starts to make a case for more playing time — perhaps even pushing starting JACK linebacker Teitum Tuioti for his spot down the road. Defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi even noted last week that Purchase was “truly competing to start for us,” underscoring just how quickly the young linebacker is rising. Jhop: Oregon Runs for Over 300 YardsI think we’ve talked a bit about Oregon’s rushing attack through this Fall camp. My bet is Oregon will lean on the run game heavy in week one as it’s going to be one of the safest and easiest ways to get through game one with minimal film to offer to upcoming opponents. I really won’t consider it a “flex”, if you will, given it’s Montana State. But I do think it sets the tone for this season on how effective Oregon will be rushing the football. FWIW, we’ll see several backs get some run in this one. Surprise Storyline vs Montana State

ESPN Football Power Index (chance of winning) for Each Game
🤔 Hmm, ok, wow, that is a very low win percentage. But, I will be there in person to root for my Ducks!GO DUCKS, FLY HIGH!!!Oregon Ducks at Penn State Nittany Lions — Week 5 Oregon Percent Chance to Win, per FPI: 27.1% Analysis: Unsurprisingly, this is the one game on the schedule where Oregon does not enter as a favorite. Not only are they playing Penn State on the road in Happy Valley — a white-out game — but the Nittany Lions are also among the best teams in the nation, widely ranked No. 2 going into the year. By no means are the Ducks out of this game, but it's going to likely be a top-5 or top-7 matchup, which is never easy to win on the road.
