Recommended Posts

Under new offensive coordinator, Will Stein, the Oregon Ducks will look to utilize the Pistol to a greater degree than they did under Coach Kenny Dillingham. Though the Ducks have used the alignment with varying degrees of success over the past few years, Coach Stein uses the Pistol in slightly different ways, and the play-action game is one area he’s ...

Another great article Coach Eric!  Thank you for writing today's look into Coach Stein's offense.

Did you notice how open the left wide receiver on the crossing route was?  This play action pass should put lots of stress on a defense!

Always learn a lot from your play diagrams and descriptions….thank you.

Nix can reliably read a defense, go through progressions when receivers are covered, and be a legit run threat when necessary. Match that up with a solid run game, and RB’s that can also become an extra receiver, and potential oozes out of our offense.

Stein inherits some very good players. Really excited to see what the players and this offense can accomplish.

The tight end sure puts a ton of stress on the DE/OLB over him on the line of scrimmage.  The defender has to fend off a block, and in the process makes it easy for the TE to peel off as he did.  By the time the ILB comes over--it is too late.  Get an athletic TE out there and you have the good gains we saw on that play.

Some good pass plays can come from the Pistol, and I thank you Coach, for bringing them to us!

There were a couple good options! That crossing receiver beat his guy from the start.

But I just read the other day what Don Coryell would tell his QBs; don’t pass up an open receiver. So as soon as a guy is open in the progression, that’s where the progression stops.
