DUCKS UNVEIL NONCONFERENCE SCHEDULE

Oregon head women's basketball coach Kelly Graves has announced the Ducks' 2023-24 nonconference schedule, which officially begins with the season opener against Northern Arizona on Nov. 6 at Matthew Knight Arena.

The Ducks will play seven of their 13 nonconference games at home, while also competing at the Trailblazer Classic hosted by Utah Tech to close their nonconference slate. UO will meet the Trailblazers on Dec. 19 before taking on Oklahoma State on Dec. 21.

"We are really excited about our nonconference schedule and being able to face quality opponents before gearing up for Pac-12 play," Graves said. "Our team will face some tests, especially away from home, and we'll get a good idea of where we stand fairly early in the season. But we are so excited to get back in front of the best fans in the country at Matthew Knight Arena."

Oregon's nonconference schedule is highlighted by four teams that qualified for last year's NCAA tournament, including Baylor, Portland, Oklahoma State and Southern. The Ducks will make the trip to Waco, Texas, to take on three-time national champion Baylor on Sunday, Dec. 3, with the Bears making the return trip to Eugene in the 2024-25 season.

Oregon will host Southern Oregon in an exhibition game on Sunday, Oct. 29 before officially beginning the season against Northern Arizona.

Ula Chamberlain thankful to be back on the hardwood after year away modeling

The Ducks added local guard Ula Chamberlain to the roster this summer, first as a walk-on and eventually as a scholarship player. Chamberlain took the 2021-22 season off to pursue a modeling career.

Ula Chamberlain didn't expect to play collegiate basketball again after stepping away from the sport in 2022 to pursue modeling.

However, as is often the case with these stories, last year would prove to be a one-year hiatus rather than a conclusion to her athletics career.

The passion for the sport came rushing back this past spring, and after catching the eye of Oregon coaches in May at open gyms with Duck players, the former scholarship athlete was extended an opportunity join the team as a walk-on in June.

Ducks set to host nation's top 2024 women's basketball prospect Sarah Strong this weekend

Three of the nation's top women's basketball recruits in the 2024 class are set to be in Eugene this weekend, sources tell DuckTerritory.com.

Among the trio of top recruits is the nation's top-ranked player Sarah Strong of Fuquay-Varina (NC). Strong is a 6-foot-2 forward with attention from both coasts.

She was named the state's Gatorade Player of the Year this past season after leading Grace Christian School to a state championship as a junior. She averaged 22.6 points, 13.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 3.4 steals, and 2.2 blocks per game.

The Ducks are also set to host Arianna Roberson of San Antonio (Tex.) and commit Katie Fiso, a guard from Seattle. Roberson is a 6-foot-4 forward ranked 19th nationally by ESPN and Fiso is a 5-foot-11 guard who comes in at No. 31 in the national rankings.

Oti Gildon returning to women's basketball staff as director of player development

Oti Gildon has rejoined Kelly Graves' coaching staff, the university announced on Thursday afternoon, this time as the program’s director of player development.

Gildon played for the Ducks from 2015-19 as part of two Elite Eight runs and the school's first Final Four in 2019. She played 143 games during four seasons, good for the third most in school history.

She joined Graves' coaching staff directly after finishing her playing career in 2020. She spent two seasons as the team's directory of creativity before leaving last season to take an assistant coaching gig at Seattle University.

“We are so happy to have Oti back with our program,” Graves said in the school's release. “She was a foundational player for us who really helped build this program up to what it is, and she has gained invaluable experience as both a collegiate coach and professional player overseas. We are so thrilled to have Oti in this player development role and back in Eugene where she belongs.”

Oregon's Grace VanSlooten named to preseason All-Pac-12 team

Oregon forward Grace VanSlooten was voted to the Pac-12's preseason all-conference team, the league announced on Monday. The sophomore was the only Duck player to earn a spot on the 15-player team selected by media members.

This is not VanSlooten's first Pac-12 recognition. The 6-foot-3 forward was named to the league's all-freshman team last season and was also an honorable mention all-Pac-12 choice too.

Kelly Graves says Ducks plan to play OSU and WSU in coming seasons

Oregon women's basketball coach Kelly Graves anticipates that Oregon will play several of its former Pac-12 opponents on a regular basis in non-league games beginning next year.

Graves told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that he and Washington State coach Kami Etheridge have an agreement in place that will see the Cougars play the Ducks at Matthew Knight Arena during the 2024-25 season.

"I've already talked to Washington State and we've agreed to play next year as well," he said.

Graves added that he "assumed" that the Ducks and Beavers will also play non-league games going forward.

"I'm assuming we'll play Oregon State each year as a non-league game," he said.  "We haven't even talked about it. I know [OSU coach Scott Rueck] wants to do it, and we'd like it to continue as well."

The Ducks will join the Big 10 beginning next calendar year. In doing so, they'll be forced to play many games outside of the Pacific Time Zone. Facing teams from the soon-to-be discontinued Pac-12 conference in non-conference games would limit travel...

Still no clarity on transfer Priscilla Williams' status for the 2023-24 season

Oregon still awaits clarity on the status of transfer guard Priscilla Williams for the upcoming 2023-24 season, head coach Kelly Graves told reporters on Wednesday afternoon.

"I don't know," he said. "It's in the hands of the NCAA."

Oregon will be the third school Williams has played for since beginning her collegiate basketball career in 2020. The former five-star recruit spent her first two seasons at Syracuse, sitting out all of the 2021-22 season with injury, before spending last season at South Florida.

The NCAA allows athletes immediate eligibility after their first transfer, but players who transfer multiple times before graduation are forced to apply for a hardship waiver, as Williams has done following her time at USF.

"Hopefully they grant her that waiver because she's a really good player," Graves said on Wednesday. "She's got great length. She can shoot the three. She talks. She's a really good defender. She'd be a huge addition."

Williams is still able to practice with the team, as she did on Wednesday, but will not be available to play in games unless the NCAA grants her immediate eligibility...

Grace VanSlooten expected to play primarily on the perimeter in 2023-24

Last week Oregon sophomore Grace VanSlooten was one of 20 players named to the preseason Cheryl Miller Award watch list awarded to the nation's top small forward each season.

VanSlooten's candidacy for such an award should come as no surprise coming off of last year's stellar freshman campaign. However, the positional designation likely caught some off guard.

Per head coach Kelly Graves, the 6-foot-3 forward will transition to a a more perimeter-oriented role this season with VanSlooten actings as the team's small forward.

"Grace is kind of transitioning more to the three-spot, so she's playing more on the perimeter," he explained on Wednesday afternoon.

A four-time All-Pac-12 Freshman of the Week selection last season, VanSlooten played in the front court almost exclusively, thriving there with a 13.2 points per game average to go with 5.6 rebounds per game.

Why move the team's top player to a new position?

Getting to know Kelly Graves' Oregon Ducks ahead of the 2023 season tip-off

The Oregon Ducks women’s basketball program might still be haunted by that 2020 season when a national championship was in their grasp before the pandemic hit.

Kelly Graves has brought in great recruiting classes since but hasn’t been able to find the same success he enjoyed when Sabrina Ionescu was playing.

Oregon might still be a year or two away from seriously contending to make a deep run in March, but that doesn’t mean they can’t make some noise in the meantime.

In the last season of the Pac-12, the conference schedule is a huge gauntlet and the Ducks will have to maneuver their way through. The talent is there to beat anybody.

The big question surrounding this team is how quickly they develop chemistry and put it to good use on the floor.

Oregon has three tremendous sophomores and they have a Top 5 recruiting class to play with.

If the Ducks gel as a team, they will finish a lot higher than predicted...

Oregon announces signing of international WBB prospect Ehis Etute of Luxembourg

The Oregon women's basketball program hauled in a major addition on Wednesday with top international prospect Faith Ehi Etute's announced commitment to the Ducks on national signing day.

Top international women's basketball prospect Ehis Etute will be a Duck, the school officially announced on Wednesday morning after receiving her paperwork to open national signing day.

Etute first announced her commitment to Oregon last week.

Hailing from Luxembourg, Etute is a 6-foot power forward who has made waves in international competition.

She averaged 31.5 points, 23.3 rebounds and 6.2 steals per game during this summer's FIBA U18 Women's European Division B Championships for which she was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Luxembourg fell to Croatia in the title round.

She plays her club ball for T71 Diddeléng in Luxembourg, where she averaged 11.3 points and 10.0 rebounds playing against professional competition.

Etute joins Oregon's 2024 signing class, which will be finalized later on Wednesday.

Point guard Peyton Scott out for the season with knee injury

Oregon Ducks’ guard Peyton Scott will miss the remainder of the 2023-24 season after suffering a knee injury in Monday’s game against Northern Arizona, head women’s basketball coach Kelly Graves announced Wednesday.

The Oregon point guard was chasing down a loose ball early in the season opener with the Lumberjacks. Her knee twisted as Scott went down to the floor where she was later helped off.

A native of Lynchburg, Ohio, Scott spent four seasons at Miami (Ohio), leaving as the program’s No. 4 all-time scorer with 1,871 points.

She earned all-MAC recognition four times, including second-team honors in back-to-back seasons (2020-21, 2021-22). Scott is fourth in Redhawks’ history with 36 20-point scoring efforts and 676 career-made field goals.

She’ll likely be able to receive a medical redshirt and return to the Duck program for 2024-25.
