Still no clarity on transfer Priscilla Williams' status for the 2023-24 season

Oregon still awaits clarity on the status of transfer guard Priscilla Williams for the upcoming 2023-24 season, head coach Kelly Graves told reporters on Wednesday afternoon.

"I don't know," he said. "It's in the hands of the NCAA."

Oregon will be the third school Williams has played for since beginning her collegiate basketball career in 2020. The former five-star recruit spent her first two seasons at Syracuse, sitting out all of the 2021-22 season with injury, before spending last season at South Florida.

The NCAA allows athletes immediate eligibility after their first transfer, but players who transfer multiple times before graduation are forced to apply for a hardship waiver, as Williams has done following her time at USF.

"Hopefully they grant her that waiver because she's a really good player," Graves said on Wednesday. "She's got great length. She can shoot the three. She talks. She's a really good defender. She'd be a huge addition."

Williams is still able to practice with the team, as she did on Wednesday, but will not be available to play in games unless the NCAA grants her immediate eligibility...

Grace VanSlooten expected to play primarily on the perimeter in 2023-24

Last week Oregon sophomore Grace VanSlooten was one of 20 players named to the preseason Cheryl Miller Award watch list awarded to the nation's top small forward each season.

VanSlooten's candidacy for such an award should come as no surprise coming off of last year's stellar freshman campaign. However, the positional designation likely caught some off guard.

Per head coach Kelly Graves, the 6-foot-3 forward will transition to a a more perimeter-oriented role this season with VanSlooten actings as the team's small forward.

"Grace is kind of transitioning more to the three-spot, so she's playing more on the perimeter," he explained on Wednesday afternoon.

A four-time All-Pac-12 Freshman of the Week selection last season, VanSlooten played in the front court almost exclusively, thriving there with a 13.2 points per game average to go with 5.6 rebounds per game.

Why move the team's top player to a new position?

Graves confident in starting five, rest of rotation remains a work in progress

Kelly Graves knows his starting five. How the bench rotation comes together will be "the key to the season", he said on Wednesday afternoon.

"I really believe right now we've got a good first unit and a couple subs who play well when they're with that unit," Oregon's coach said less than a week before the season gets underway against Northern Arizona on Monday night.

Getting to know Kelly Graves' Oregon Ducks ahead of the 2023 season tip-off

The Oregon Ducks women’s basketball program might still be haunted by that 2020 season when a national championship was in their grasp before the pandemic hit.

Kelly Graves has brought in great recruiting classes since but hasn’t been able to find the same success he enjoyed when Sabrina Ionescu was playing.

Oregon might still be a year or two away from seriously contending to make a deep run in March, but that doesn’t mean they can’t make some noise in the meantime.

In the last season of the Pac-12, the conference schedule is a huge gauntlet and the Ducks will have to maneuver their way through. The talent is there to beat anybody.

The big question surrounding this team is how quickly they develop chemistry and put it to good use on the floor.

Oregon has three tremendous sophomores and they have a Top 5 recruiting class to play with.

If the Ducks gel as a team, they will finish a lot higher than predicted...

Oregon announces signing of international WBB prospect Ehis Etute of Luxembourg

The Oregon women's basketball program hauled in a major addition on Wednesday with top international prospect Faith Ehi Etute's announced commitment to the Ducks on national signing day.

Top international women's basketball prospect Ehis Etute will be a Duck, the school officially announced on Wednesday morning after receiving her paperwork to open national signing day.

Etute first announced her commitment to Oregon last week.

Hailing from Luxembourg, Etute is a 6-foot power forward who has made waves in international competition.

She averaged 31.5 points, 23.3 rebounds and 6.2 steals per game during this summer's FIBA U18 Women's European Division B Championships for which she was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Luxembourg fell to Croatia in the title round.

She plays her club ball for T71 Diddeléng in Luxembourg, where she averaged 11.3 points and 10.0 rebounds playing against professional competition.

Etute joins Oregon's 2024 signing class, which will be finalized later on Wednesday.

The Ducks landed a verbal commitment from guard Katie Fiso of Seattle this past summer and is also expected to sign on Wednesday. Fiso is ESPN's 31st ranked overall prospect...

Point guard Peyton Scott out for the season with knee injury

Oregon Ducks’ guard Peyton Scott will miss the remainder of the 2023-24 season after suffering a knee injury in Monday’s game against Northern Arizona, head women’s basketball coach Kelly Graves announced Wednesday.

The Oregon point guard was chasing down a loose ball early in the season opener with the Lumberjacks. Her knee twisted as Scott went down to the floor where she was later helped off.

A native of Lynchburg, Ohio, Scott spent four seasons at Miami (Ohio), leaving as the program’s No. 4 all-time scorer with 1,871 points.

She earned all-MAC recognition four times, including second-team honors in back-to-back seasons (2020-21, 2021-22). Scott is fourth in Redhawks’ history with 36 20-point scoring efforts and 676 career-made field goals.

She’ll likely be able to receive a medical redshirt and return to the Duck program for 2024-25.

Leading 33-32 at halftime, the Ducks scored 19 unanswered points across the second and third quarters in building a 17-point edge through three frames.

Oregon women’s basketball allows 21 threes, falls at Utah Tech in worst loss of Kelly Graves era

Oregon has reached its low point of the Kelly Graves era.

The Ducks allowed 21 three-pointers, tied for second most in a Division I women’s basketball game this season and most against UO since at least 2001-02, and allowed a triple-double in an embarrassing 92-86 loss to Utah Tech at Burns Arena Tuesday afternoon in the Trailblazer Classic.
