Please Help Bo's Heisman Campaign

Recommended Posts

I'm short on time to do this myself, but if one or more people here could help to do the following it could make a difference in Bo's Heisman voting:

Step 1:

Watch you tube summary video (there is typically a 25 minute game summary video) on every game Bo played and document time of game for Bo's last play, where Ty Thompson came in and relieved him the next series.

Step 2: write downs Bo's stats for each game:

Total yards passing

Total yards rushing

Total completions

Total touchdowns

Total Interceptions

Step 3:

Multiple each games stats x 60 divided by total game minutes played

Step 4

Add each games playing time adjusted stats for a regular season playing time adjusted (extrapolated) stats.

Step 5: Do the same for JD if he was ever pulled early during a blowout.

Step 6: compare playing time adjusted (extrapolated) regular season stats.

Step 7:

Post comparison of playing time adjusted stats as Twitter replies to major post as a Twitter reply to a major networks Twitter posts on Bo vs. Daniels Heisman comparisons.

Step 8:

Send complete analysis to Oregon beat Twitter Posters like Geoff Schwartz, so they can independently verify and send out as well.

ESPN has play by play for every game. Would be much quicker than watching videos

Thank you Log Haulin!

Here are the stat multipliers for each game:

PSU: 1.93

HAW: 1.76

COL: 1.40

STAN: 1.22

CAL: 1.30

ASU: 1.67

Next we need someone to pull Bo's stats for every single game, whether he was pulled early or not.

It looks like Daniels was pulled early in games vs Grambling St., Miss State and Army.

He wasn't pulled at all against Georgia State to pad his Heisman resume, which is another reason why we need to do this exercise.

The 2023 NCAAF season stats per game for Bo Nix of the Oregon Ducks on ESPN...

Not really my strong suit figuring this stuff out but here is Nix stats for each game

Maybe points per drive would be a good metric?

I’m still blown away that Bo Nix and the Ducks have the #1 total passing yards in college football this year. A stunning accomplishment given QB talent across the board in a traditional run first offense!

Awesome! Thank you so much.

I'm curious how they will compare to Jayden Daniels adjusted numbers, but those numbers by themselves are outrageous!

This article is why we need to do this exercise!

Jayden Daniels for the Heisman Trophy is coming down to the stretch run.

Can somebody help do Jayden Daniels' game time adjusted stats like we did Bo Nix so we can get an apples to apples stat comparison to send out to the masses please?

Well, I put in the work and might as well post it.  Not the outcome I expected but razor thin nonetheless.

Ground rules:

-Only counted drives where Nix and Daniels remained in the game.

-Drives intended to run out the clock at the end of halves and points were not awarded for defensive touchdowns.

-QBs did receive points for PATs following offensive TDs along with FGs.

-Additionally, interceptions, QB fumbles, and TO on downs were attributed as QB responsible turnovers.

Bo Nix

PSU - 8 drives for 57 points

TTU - 11 drives for 31 points

HAW - 7 drives for 41 points

COL - 8 drives for 42 points, 1 INT, 1 TO Downs

STAN - 9 drives for 42 points

WAS - 11 drives for 33 points, 3 TO Downs

WSU - 10 drives for 38 points

UTA - 10 drives for 35 points, 1 RB fumble

CAL - 12 drives for 49 points, 1 INT, 1 WR fumble (Cal returned for TD)

USC - 8 drives for 36 points

ASU - 7 drives for 42 points

OSU - 8 drives for 31 points

Total - 109 drives for 477 points, 6 turnovers (2 INTs, 4 on downs)

Points per drive:  4.38

Jayden Daniels

FSU - 11 drives for 24 points, 1 INT, 3 TO downs

GRA - 6 drives for 42 points

MSU - 8 drives for 41 points

ARK - 9 drives for 34 points, 1 INT

Ole - 13 drives for 49 points, 1 QB fumble, 1 TO downs

MIZ - 11 drives for 42 points

AUB - 10 drives for 48 points, 1 INT

Army - 7 drives for 38 points

ALA - 8 drives for 28 points, 1 INT, 1 TO downs

FLA - 11 drives for 52 points, 2 TO downs

GST - 8 drives for 56 points

TAM - 9 drives for 42 points

Total - 111 drives for 496 points, 11 turnovers (4 INTs, 7 TO on downs)

Points per drive: 4.47

This is unbelievably close and at these rates JD scores 9 additional points over 100 drives.  JD played the entire game again Georgia State and scored a TD on every drive.  For Nix, the Washington game really hurt (3.0 ppd) mostly due to the 3 turnover on downs which is half of Nix's turnovers for the year.  Hopefully, Nix and the Ducks get redemption on Friday and Nix vaults to the top of every Heisman ballot.

This is excellent too! Bo doesn't have to beat Jayden Daniels straight up on the stat lines, it just has to be somewhat close.

Drumroll 🥁

Jayden Daniel’s extrapolated stats. Nix wins in every category except rush yards and TDs, which is to be expected with Daniel’s run game. Both great QBs without a doubt.

I would be curious to see what each players stats are for the first half and thru the 3rd quarter.

Hopefully Heisman voters look at the Georgia state game and see that JD was still throwing (4 out of 5 plays) in the middle of the 4th quarter when they were up 49-14 to get him another TD.

Bo would  have been out of the game by the 4th quarter if not sooner.

Thank you so much!

Who can take the points per drive and 60 minutes extrapolation data and post in Twitter per the original post in this topic?

Could be both a thread with the methodology and breakdown as well as a single tweet with just comparison of the totals (pts per drive, and extrapolated totals if they'd played the full 60 minutes of every game).

Header for the tweet could be: "Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels stats aren't so different once you normalize them to the number of opportunities they had."
