When asked why the Chargers would blow a No. 5 pick in the draft on an offensive tackle, (admittedly a very good one) Harbaugh responded with how he views the offensive line as a weapon

 

"They are the tip of the offensive scoring spear."

 

I have not been a Harbaugh fan in the past, but I gotta love that quote.  (And Justin does too!)

Good teams build at the line of scrimmage. Bad teams select QB or skilled positions year after year…

Though not the only reason, look at how much the Lions have improved with Penei at OT. That extra 500 milliseconds of protection means a yard per play in the ground game, more completions and fewer INTs. That's why tackles go in the first round.

 

Alt and Slater will make great bookends for the LAC O-Line and finally get JH some meaningful protection.
